Nomo Retires (1 Viewer)

Nomo retired after his comeback in KC failed due mostly to injuries.

I know thats not a lot to note, but I wonder why his no hitter in Colorado doesnt get more love?

In 1996 with the Dodgers, he pitched the first no-hitter in the history of Coors Field. He beat the Colorado Rockies at a time when pitchers routinely struggled at the mile-high ballpark.

They still struggle there today even with the humidor. I am just not sure why this isnt mentioned more often? I have a hard time believing that a no hitter will ever be thrown in Colorado again.

Had his career been more significant, then yeah, it would have been remembered. By the time Nomo hit the states, his arm had a TON of innings on it, and he wore down a couple years later.

I agree with this.BTW, nice job rocking Gary Carter in the Spos hat. :hophead:

You haven't even covered the half of it. This was a no-hitter pitched late in the year in a pennant race involving the two teams playing. In the middle of the game, play was suspended at least once for 60-90 minutes for rain, after which Nomo of course resumed pitching. Colorado was a good hitting team anyway, but as was said was playing at home in that airport they call a ball park. Finally, Nomo essentially pitched a no hitter with two pitches, a decent-but-not-great fastball (that never seemed to have any movement/action on it) and that nasty splitter. For my money it's one of the most remarkable no hitters of all time. It should get more recognition as such.

What about tossing one while debuting as a Rod Sox?
Only one of four players to throw a no-no in each league. Props to Nomo for a good career. He helped pave the way for Japanese players coming to play here in the States. And that night in Colorado was amazing - that splitter was an evil, evil pitch that night.
