Not the Year of the TE... (1 Viewer)

Last year was a huge year for TE's. This year, not so much. I was looking at the TE scoring in my league this season. The top TE in my league is Gates with 149 pts. Next closest? Marcedes Lewis with 85 and hes on the WW. To give you an idea of comparison, there are 17 WR's that have more points than that. Guys like Steve Johnson, Malcom Floyd, Dwayne Bowe and Santana Moss all have more points than every TE but Gates. Last year there were 11 guys that broke 100 pts at TE in my league. This year, there are only 5 guys that have a chance to meet that point.

TE was a huge crapshoot this year. Not worth the high picks thrown about. Now obviously, Clark and Finley might have been huge but who can really tell.

So how could a position that was so hotly debated all off season become so irrelevant?

huge advantage for anyone who owns Gates.....all other guys, I agree, suck.

This was a crappy year to waste a high oick, unless that pick was Gates.

I got Zach Miller in the 10th round in 2 leagues. I know he's got an injury to deal with at the moment, but I've been absolutely thrilled with his production so far. :goodposting:

Over the last couple of weeks with Kitna at the helm, Witten has looked pretty awesome. I have a feeling he's going to go nuts until Romo gets back.

I suffered with Celek all season until I finally dropped him for Tamme. But as bad as Celek's production was, I think he was only averaging a couple of points less than the large majority of TE's...about 4 points a game instead of 6 or 7.

I'm thinking that next year my TE will be drafted in a much later round.

What? :lmao:

- Last year there were only 4 TE's that averaged over 8 ppg (not including Owen Daniels).

- This year there are 6 TE's averaging over 8 ppg (not including Dallas Clark).

- Yes, there is a huge disparity between #1 and #2 TE's, but the production from #2 down isn't that much different than usual, Gates is just off the charts, and his 14+ ppg will come back down a little closer to earth by the end of the year.

Last year in my league there were 10 TE's with 100+ points.

This year there are 9 TE's on pace to reach 100 points. (not including Clark and Finley who were on pace)

Seriously?

I'd say there are many good TEs in the league. Yes, Gates is the top-dog, but we see this almost every year since the days of Shannon Sharpe and ben Coates (think of the years Coates, Gonzo, Gates, Witten, etc. were all much bigger producers). This year, while there is a clump of say 10-12 TEs, that "clump" is quite good. Zack Miller, Hernandez, Witten, Davis, Keller, Lewis, Gonzalez, Heap, and Shiancoe are all doing well enough. Heck, if Clark and Finley stayed healthy we'd probably seen the highest aggregate TE scoring ever - especially is Carlson, Daniels, Cooley, and heath Miller picked up to the production they are capable of.

It all boils down to where you drafted Gates as oposed to the other TEs. I'd say VD and Witten's production are excellent value right now.

not sure what you're talking , have you seen Witten's numbers lately?? off-the-charts..

In my MOFFL league, we have 8 TE's (Gates, Witten, Miller, Davis, Cooley,Lewis, Clark, Keller) in the top 30 of combined WR(1ppr)/TE(1.5ppr).

If you want TE's to make more of a difference in your league, give them 1.5 ppr. Certainly gives you a new perspective in when to select your top TE's. In the initial draft, I took my first TE in round 3 and my second in round 6. You can start up to 4 of them because of the liberal flex options. At one time last year before a trade, I had Clark (1 overall WR/TE combined), Davis(5), and Witten(16) with last years scoring. This year so far, Clark is still #21, while Witten is #9, and Davis is #14 overall WR/TE combined. Gates is #1 WR/TE combined, with Roddy White at #2, 17 points behind.

The big thing this year has been the injuries to TE's. You can't predict them, so you take the best you can get and hope they stay healthy.

As to Gates, remember he hasn't had his bye yet, so he's going to come back to the average here shortly.

You should be able to answer that - your TEs are 2 rookies.
Thats what Ive used to fill in at the moment. I drafted Zach Miller and traded him last week for Wes Welker. Welker hasn't done much but Miller got hurt, so I guess good move. Gresham was a bye week replacement. Just picked up Pettigrew and Marcedes. My point though is that TE is more interchangeable then ever. Wasting a high draft pick on them was not a good move this year.

Last year, there were 11 TEs who averaged at least 6.5 fantasy points per game. This year, there are 12 TEs averaging at least 6.5 fantasy points per game.

Finley dropping out with injury hurts. He would have been a strong #2.

Thanks for reminding me about picking Finley over Gates. :towelwave: :(
