Notable CUTS - 2019 (1 Viewer)

whoah...

Colts cut Chad Kelly, is it because of the two game suspension?  They would've had to roster three QBs to keep him around. I'm sure somebody is going to pick him up, he lit it up this preseason.
I wouldn't be so sure of that. He's been on thin ice for a while.

Last year, he was talked up as being the second coming of Christ and then the Patriots trade him for a ham sandwich even though they were needy at tight end.  This summer he gets talked up as having the best preseason of any one on the Seahawks and then gets cut.  What's up with this?  I wonder if the Patriots will sign him?
Mr. Bill Belichick to the white courtesy phone,....Mr. Bill Belichick to the white courtesy phone.

Yeah, what the hell. Even if he was that much of a disaster, you don’t cut a 3rd round pick you just drafted.

Unless there’s something more to the story, but still embarrassing.
Douglas is staying true to his Philly roots. Eagles DC Schwartz when switching teams has a rep for cutting a highly drafted guy by the previous regime to send a message. For Schwartz it was Eric Rowe. For Douglas it was probably an easy decision with Polite.

It does leave them with only Brissett on the roster. I just checked the Indianapolis Star. One QB
The Colts cut both Kelly and Phillip Walker. I'm sure one or both will be re-signed after Week 1. They're also both eligible to be signed to the Practice Squad. But it would be a helluva risky move to go into Week 1 with only one quarterback on the roster.

Yeah, Dr. Octopus said that and I think I expressed it upthread. You're right, it seems risky to do that. I'm not sure how it works, really, so I can't pretend to be an expert, but you certainly need at least two in Week One.

If you're on the roster at the start of Game 1, then your entire salary for the 2019 season is fully guaranteed. That's why many overpriced veterans will get cut at the end of training camp and then get re-signed immediately after Game 1.

But it's somewhat rare for teams to do this with young players on minimum salaries. If the Colts intend to sign a veteran QB for Week 1 (e.g., Brian Hoyer), then they're basically doing everything backwards. Instead of paying $495K + $107K per game (with Walker guaranteed and Hoyer week-to-week), they'd be paying $1.7M + $30K per game (with Hoyer guaranteed and Walker week-to-week).

2 firsts,1 2nd, plus players
Wow. That's a haul.  Tunsil might be worth it though and they were desperate for a huge oline boost like that.  Adding an elite left tackle improves the entire line a ton.

Not sure how Stills fits, other than a backup/insurance for Fuller.  Maybe Miami insisted he be in the deal...

That one’s just weird. Dude looked great coming off Achilles repair.  I thought he might be one of the starting three receivers for the patriots

He seem like exactly the kind of  career resurrection scenario of the patriots are famous for.

Kind of shocked to be honest

He was playing against many 3rd stringers / cut players. I didn't see him gain a whole lot of separation.

Anarchy and SeniorVBDStudent (Pats homers) seem to think it's a cut-and-re-sign.

Probably going to be resigned after week 1 when his season salary doesnt need to be guaranteed.

Not uncommon for vets near the end, especially if they arent needed or available for week 1.

I wish these sites would stop calling themselves a tracker if they aren't updating this more quickly.

Anyone see word on Higdon or Vikings WRs?

Love Gino as the backup there ...

Not as if the ‘hawks really need a backup, but he can keep them afloat if Russ happens to miss a game or two
Gino cut ... lol

Sort of a weird cut imo. Who’s the backup in Seattle now?
