Now is Travis Beckum's big chance (1 Viewer)

He has upside, but TE is a deep position. With Boss hurt now is his chance to show what he can do. He's a decent flyer in deep (24+) dynasty leagues.

Travis Beckum has amazing talent. Watching him play in college was awesome. He made every catch that a good wide reciever was supposed to play. IMO the giants should use him more, but when boss is healthy. Use more two tight end formations, roll out on some play actions and find beckum. we'll see how he's used while boss is out. interesting to see how many looks beckum gets this week against a colts team that has to be geared up to stop the run after their embarassing week 1 performance

He's a better catcher than blocker. Especially with all the 1.5 PPR and 2 PPR for TE leagues out there, he could be worth an add to see what happens the next couple weeks with Boss out. NYG spent a 3rd round pick on him last year, and IIRC Bloom was pretty high on him around draft time in his rookie top 100.

He's unlikely to ever be an upper tier fantasy TE but there's some potential to be a spot starter if he ever wrests the job away from Boss. Boss has had recurring concussion issues, so he may not be long for the NFL if things keep going like they have been.

There is no reason that Beckum can't function as Eli's Dallas Clark, other than the sad fact that Gilbride doesn't have the imaginative wherewithal to make it happen.

Meh. Beckum has been a disappoint so far and while he's languished on the bench great receiving options like Nicks, Smith and Manningham have emerged. I'm not great fan of Gilbride, but especially with the Giants current run blocking issues combined with a number of other great receiving options, I can see why they want a TE that is a blocker first and a receiver second leaving Beckum heading back to the bench when Boss' head clears.

As a badger fan, I am biased, but here is what I see (and yes, I did draft him in Anarchy 3)

He is a WR - they take time to develop in the NFL. The FBG always talk about the "3rd Year" for WR. He had last year to adjust to the speed, get over some lingering injuries, learn the playbook. This is y2, I think he wil be a valuable player

He is another Jermichel Finley Type - too big for a dback to cover, too fast for a linebacker. He is a great matchup against a lot of teams, with very good hands. If Eli had better WR to force teams to rotate to cover, Beckum could have some huge games.

These are not secrets about TB - the current giants management drafted him, and they know his strengths and weakness - there is no way they spent a 3rd without the intent of playing him like a Jermicheal Finley type - They will give him the opportunity to prove it.

Of course, that is the operative phrase ' Prove It ' - He hasnt looked steller, has been hurt, and overall I am sure has been a disapointment to management. But with Boss out - he won't be able to complain about an opportunity - time to put up or shut up.

If you have a deep roster, I would take a shot at him in a redraft league, definately would roster him in a dynasty league (with a deep enough roster). If you play in a under 12 team leauge, or with small rosters, have to pass, even as a huge fan.

Does anyone watch the Giants here, or do you look at box scores? Trust me, Travis Beckum is absolutely horrendous and I'd rather have a left guard on my team than him

I watched him for four years at Wisconsin, and followed the papers in new york on him. So no, he is not horrendous, although I would agree he has not performed to expectations.

Another Badger fan here. Beckum looked fantastic in college.....but he clearly hasn't performed well so far in the NFL.While I largely agree with your take, one nit to pick: Beckum is 6'3", while Finley is 6'5". That might sound like a big deal, but when you pair it with Finley's superior athleticism (which IMO is pretty clearcut), it makes Finley a MUCH tougher matchup for a defender.

He didn't look terrible last week against Carolina, but he didn't look amazing.

He's not better than Nicks, Smith and Manningham. I'd also rather see Bradshaw split out as well. I really don't see him really doing well.

We'll see though. He has a chance. He performed average last week but can't block for ####.

Major FAIL.

Looked dreadful this past Sunday night. Rewound the play a few times where he turned his head on the snap count and Freeney would've absolutely destroyed Eli from his blindside had he not just gotten the pass off (the TD bomb to Manningham). Great moment after the TD where they had a closeup of the O-Line coach yelling in Beckham's face "What the hell are you doing?!?!"

In todays NFL, a TE who can't block is UFL material.

meh. there are plenty of guys that are weak blockers at the position. some of them even start. beckum, obviously, isn't ready to start or least for the giants. he can be a fine player but a bad fit for them.

A lot of the young TEs in the league are subpar or maybe ok blockers but get playing time due to the mismatches they are creating on the field off the line or out of the slot. Hernandez in NE and Finley in GB are two that come to mind. Also why those teams have additional TEs on the roster who are geared for blocking (Crumpler/Gronk in NE, Lee/Crabtree/Quarless in GB)
