NY Democratic Mayoral Primary "Accidentally" forgot to delete 135k Test ballots (1 Viewer)

Meh, it's just Iowa.

On a somewhat more serious note, hopefully this facilitates the Iowa Caucus no longer being first every go round.
I get what you're saying, but that would be an odd main takeaway from the Iowa debacle. It's not like we don't have a history that points to needing to clean up the procedure of the voting tabulations.  The 2000 election would have seemed to be the ultimate lesson, and we still didn't learn.

And where will they move the primary to so that this doesn't happen again? A place that has its #### together like New York? Lol.

Oh - it wasn't my main takeaway.  Just an observation.  Anybody who's ever been to the DMV knows that the government can screw up anything.

I don't agree with you on paper and pen but the incompetence is kind of breathtaking.

I figured that. I was just expounding, really. Just an excuse to be incredulous that this has been going on in a grand way since 2000, and nobody has really done much. I tend conservative, as everybody knows, but the voting machines and that guy's political ties always scared me. You disagree, but I think paper and pen avoids a lot of issues. It'll just take longer to count. If we could hold our collective breath for two days for once in this country, we might be reasonably assured (who knows about transporting the votes and what goes on with the voting rolls, etc.) that we're at least counting the right votes marked with the true intent of the voter.

Pen an paper is pretty quick.  They do it in a Brazil and they have the results 4 hours after the polls close.  Used to be like that here as well.

Seems a little Luddite to me.
We’ve had no real fraud. When errors like this happen they’re quickly corrected. I see no need to reject technology,

Not unprecedented. Many democrat candidates both national and at the local level have complained about shenanigans in primaries before. Business as usual.
This is unique to Democrats primaries? I would be curious to see that info.

Putting that aside though, do you think this was an error or rigging in the NYC race?

I'd guess most arguments for improving election counting go like this...

Politician 1: We need to improve this process and make it faster!
Politician 2: Definitely.  Let's add $N thousand/million to the budget for next year to make this happen.
Politician 1: Whoa, we can't do that!

Yes. That's exactly what happens. It would seem that spending money to ensure free and fair elections would take precedence over almost every other thing under the sun besides hunger and shelter. (Oh wait, we haven't figured out the shelter part, either. My bad!)

I'm sure Republicans do it as well but it's not as publicized because Republicans rarely win mayoral elections in major US cities. So theres not as much coverage when Joe Blow wins the primary of podunkville by 10,000 votes in a town of 50,000.

That seems reasonable.

This NYC election does seem like a mistake and not rigged. Whoever manages this process probably needs to find some new work.

It's just plain old incompetence.  The same governments that want to make all sorts of decisions about how I live my own life can't even handle their own elections properly.

Yep. We all work with dopes, at times we are the dopes. Someone has to run the stuff but of course there should be accountability.

This is cut and dry an error. The thread title putting "accidentally" in quotes implies it was rigging or something mysterious.

If it makes you feel better the local NYC news is blaiming nepotism and saying the BOE has a history of hiring unqualified people.

Do you miss the movement on the right to disregard the Constitution and overturn the results of the 2020 Presidential election (that is still continuing as we speak)?

Hmm you don't say. Don't know why they would do this when it was just a simple human error.

Oh my God. What a bunch of traitors. Questioning the results of an election?
