:( The dude has been consistently great for the last 5 years. He has ranked top 10 in 2 of those 5 seasons, and top 5 in the other 3. He has posted over 90 catches and 1300 yards in 4 of those 5 years.Edit to add: He also hasn't missed a game in those 5 years.

But he's got a reputation of scoring huge and then disappearing for a few games, which is unacceptable to a lot of folks. Consisitency however in WRs is difficult to attain and he's not the only one who has that type of scoring distribution.

in the past 2 years he's had 20 games under 10 fantasy points and 12 at 6 points or less. that's consistent :toilet: all right.

re-check 2006 and 2007. 2 stud games. some good games. plenty of :toilet:

Is there any stat sites out there that give you standard deviations of points? It's a relatively basic stat, and it's so hugely relevant to FF. CJ is a perfect example; huge stats every year, huge receptions, huge yards, and yet he's a brutal FF player because his sd is so freakin high. You HAVE to start him every week in case he blows up, and as a result you lose and lose and lose.

Sorry.... 90% of the leagues I play in are PPR. It appears that you are right for Non-PPR leagues.

I usually win my games by 10 points or more or lose by 10 points or more. Games where I lose by less than 10 points are very few and far between. I can say Chad has won me alot more games than he's lost me, if any.

"It's the reinvention of Ocho Cinco," he says. "I'm dead serious. People need to take me as I am because I just don't give a [expletive] anymore. That's how I'd sum up my attitude for the next season."
Yeah, this'll end well...
He will go "TO" on the Bengals this year. TO set the precedent, be enough of a jerk, a disruption, and distraction and you will get cut and lose a year but in the end Dallas will sign you to a big contract.

Man I hope he means this....

"I've been thinking a lot lately about what I could do if I just played and didn't talk. Things would be a whole lot easier on me. And think of the numbers I could put up. Then what would people say about me?"

They could destroy the remainder of his career by shipping him off to Tennessee for a boatload of picks. That is what I would do.

Sounds like he has a change of heart

Published Tue Jun 3 12:20:00 p.m. ET 2008

(KFFL) David Fleming, of ESPN.com, reports Cincinnati Bengals WR Chad Johnson has declared he will return to the team soon, possibly as early as next week. "Am I coming back? Of course I am," Johnson said from his Florida home. "I told my coaches I'm going to California to act, but the truth is I may come back to the Bengals as early as June," Johnson added. "I may be crazy but I'm not stupid." Johnson appeared to have a change of heart in mid-May, after the Bengals refused to trade him to another team. "Look how well I've done while talking every week and calling people out and making things so hard on me with all this attention," Johnson said. "I've been thinking a lot lately about what I could do if I just played and didn't talk? Things would be a whole lot easier on me. And think of the numbers I could put up. Then what would people say about me?"

or he could pull a Randy Moss and give 10% effort this year. Then he can get traded to NE. Moss, TO, and CJ are spoiled athletes who have been catered to and given special treatment their whole lives. We as fans have embraced this behavior so we are getting what we deserve. I find it interesting that these 3 self centered players have ZERO SB rings between them.

I'm shocked.

Oh wait I'm not

Chad'll say whatever. It's gonna be his means of trying to save face. But he's gonna play for the Bengals this year (and I'd venture to say next year too) and be productive.

He won't be taking this to the convention in August.

He'll play...there will be drama...the Bengals will suck...there will be an occasional fight...at year end Johnson will have top 10 fantasy numbers. Rinse. Repeat.

What about the TD celebrations? I mean I paid big $ for the NFL Network and all I got was this: Ocho Stupido

Chad Johnson is on pace to become one of the leading recievers in the history of the NFL. At this pace he will easily crack top 20 most likely top 10. You need to get off him and realize he jsut wants to win. Marvin Lewis needs to go as coach he has no idea how to coach. He was given the best defense of all time in Baltimore and rode that to a prolonged coaching gig that should have ended years ago.

I have a hard time believing that when he spent last off season creating TD celebrations knowing they would incur a 15 yard penalty for his team. The funny thing was he only scored TDs in 4 games.

Fixed for truth. Gettin older and running out of big payday opps. By the time his contract is up he will be 34 in the last (option) year. Think he can get another huge payday at 34? Maybe, but I think he was hoping to eek out another big one before then. With as many plays as he misses for cramps and all that, I dont know that adding years onto his body will help that out.

How many 15 yard penalties did he get? I don't recall any.

Chad doesn't need another big Payday he is one of the most marketed players in the NFL and I'm sure his jersey amoung the top in sales it is good buisness for the NFL to keep him happy. By the time his carrer is over he will defiantly have a Charles Barkley type option in the broadcast booth waiting as well that will sure to be 6 or 7 figures. Give the guy a break hes a great player and doesn't get in trouble.

CJ has not asked for a new contract and has offered to give money back to get off the Bengals. Not sure how that equates to wanting more money.

Just off the top of my head, he was penalized for the pathetic TV camera stunt and I believe the game was close at that point.

He was quoted even today as saying ~"If the Bengals dont want to give me, one of the best players in the league, more money, they wont pony up for defensive players". He also has mentioned money in a couple other interviews. Dont buy into his shtick, he says the its not about money the majority of the time, but it creeps its way into the conversation enough that it seems to be a good piece of the motivation. And there are signs of money troubles for Chad. Not paying property taxes, reneging on giving a car to charity. According to some local talk radio hosts, they have been told by "insiders" there are other money trouble issues.

If you know standard deviations, it can help you build a team that stands a chance of winning consistently. I'm not saying having CJ is necessarily bad, but you might want to compensate by having some reliable, solid point getters in your lineup to make up for the numerous weeks in which Johnson does nothing. Unless your team is seriously stacked, having too little variance can be just as bad as too much, but if your team has too high of a collective variance your basically just throwing guys out there and praying someone explodes. This is all standard FF thinking, I'm just saying it would be nice if we had the numbers crunched.

To this day, I'm still amazed the Bengals turned down TWO first-round offers from the Redskins for Chad Johnson. The Redskins' stupidity was far outweighed by the Bengals' stupidity in turning that offer down.

I'm a Redskins fan, so I almost fainted when I heard the news. Counting my lucky stars. Bengals.

Chad Johnson-WR-Bengals Jun. 12 - 9:04 am et

Chad Johnson reported to Bengals minicamp Thursday.

Proving once again, that most holdout talk is worthless. It's uncertain if Johnson will practice with the team this morning, although he's expected to. We'll be on the lookout for any Owens-like stunt. If Johnson is showing up to minicamps, any chance of a training camp holdout is nill. Draft him as usual.

Source: Bengals.com

The Bengals confirmed Thursday morning that Chad Johnson is at Paul Brown Stadium as the Bengals prepare for the first practice of their mandatory minicamp.

No word if he plans to practice when the Bengals work this morning and afternoon in a camp that ends with a Saturday morning workout after two more on Friday.

Also expected to attend after missing all of the voluntary workouts are fellow Pro Bowl wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh, left tackle Levi Jones and cornerback Deltha O'Neal.

Just reported he came onto the field 10 minutes after the start of practice. He is on the field and not practicing.

I hope u guys jumped on his value while it was low... say what u want; hes still top 10 WR and hes in his prime. I got a couple of good deals on him this off-season.

2 biggest things to come out of all of this:

1. Marvin Lewis regained a little bit of respect from his locker room by standing up to Johnson.

2. Johnson's time of having the fans think his antics are funny and charming and somehow different from those of other prima donna wide receivers, is up.

Chad didn't practice b/c he's hurt.

"We're investigating what ailment it is so they're going to go through some further study and see how it goes through the weekend," Lewis said at a Paul Brown Stadium news conference. "He went to the meetings, but didn't take any reps, which is kind of good because it allows us to move forward. The young guys need the work."

He had what was described as a "minor procedure" on his left ankle in February. He could be using that as his excuse.
