First Marvin Lewis, now Mike Brown: Bengals wideout Chad Ochocinco takes shot at owner

January 30, 2011

Over the last few weeks, there has been some trash talking between Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco and head coach Marvin Lewis. A few times, Ochocinco posted messages on his Twitter account about his coach and the possibility of playing with a new team in 2011. Now, it appears the six-time Pro Bowler has a new message intended for his owner–Mike Brown.

Since taking over for his dad, Brown has been criticized for his inability to manage the Bengals. In 2010, he became the quickest owner in NFL history to reach 200 losses and has established a reputation as the type of owner that cares more about friendships instead of doing what’s right from a business perspective–with the latest example being Lewis returning for his ninth season as head coach. On Sunday, Ochocinco posted a message on his Twitter account that appears to be a personal shot at the man he works for.

“If you have a business is it right for the people that work for you to care more about success than the rightful owner itself?”

Ochocinco’s $6 million option was picked up by the Bengals for 2011, but that doesn’t eliminate the possibility of a trade or release since there would be no financial loss. It’s hard to imagine Ochocinco back in Cincinnati next season considering his relationship with Lewis has taken a turn for the worst over the last few weeks–so maybe this recent shot at Brown will be the final straw.

He`s not wrong. Love him or hate him he speaks the truth on this one.
From now on, anyone I see that's overweight, I'll call them a fat ### slug. Maybe that will encourage them to work out more and lose weight.

When you want to better yourself, or your career, and the person you work for does not want to better the company and not help u succeed (in this situation it would be a team), is it wrong to take extreme measures to ensure your escape from the company?

If we were talking about any other owner, maybe I would think different, but Mike Brown has shown he does not care about winning, IMHO....so why even try to work for him? ...Typical answer is coming "Because he is under contract", or "He is being paid". Who cares, I do not, because I will not work for a company that does not care or understand the only reason I'm working for him is to succeed myself, and create a better life for my family.

Football players want to make money and win titles, both not just one...Ocho will not win in Cincy, so he wants out, no problem with that.

C'mon now - he wasn't necessarily talking about Mike Brown. I mean he coulda been talking about the owner of Versus

Chad Johnson isn't good enough anymore to run his mouth.
You mean Chad Johnson doesn't have a good enough Quarterback or Offensive Coordinator anymore to run his mouth.I think it is scary what he could have accomplished in his career if he had been with a decent QB and creative OC...He is still a top-5 WR over the last 7 or 8 years...imagine the possibilities if Carson had extended that streak of great years from 2 great/good years to 5 or 6?I just feel his talent has been wasted on such a horrid team his entire career, and that he should get a shot at playing on a winner.

I think it is scary if he could have run the right routes when he was supposed to. How he has freelanced this long and been put up with is only acceptable by the Bengals.

I won't take his talent away from him, but he has left Carson out to dry numerous times.

Agree with the premise of your post, Players are well within their rights to use whatever cards they are dealt to position themselves... I'm personally not an 85 fan and I don't put much weight in what he says, but he's within his rights to use whatever leverage he has..Didn't he try this last season though? To no avail...

Chad Johnson has only had one poor year since 2002 his second year in the league when he started producing at a top level.

That's not good enough?

I think people need to realize what he's accomplished in the NFL.
Chad has been as solid as they come. People tend to overlook his ability and perceive him as a clown. Owens is perceived in much the same way. Their mouths have overshadowed great careers.

Mike Brown is the idiot who instituted the "loyalty clause" in his players contracts.

His idea wasn't to fix the actual problems... but to shut everyone up. :sadbanana:

At a certain point it's not about "tricks", it's about character. Chad Johnson is about Chad Johnson and organizations have to look no further than this year's Super Bowl teams, past winners, the Bengals record, or various other categories to see if you need diva wideouts to win.I wouldn't want Chad Johnson on my team and I'm guessing most good GM's agree.

Only because your currunt team doesn't need him.. There are some WR starved and Jersey/ticket sale needing franchises that would welcome him in a heartbeat..Example: Buffalo last season bringing in TO, that wasn't a 1 year signing in order to get to the Superbowl..85 will have many suitors if he can escape Cinci..

I'm not following here.. Whats the loyalty clause?
If you say anything detrimental against the team, regardless that it may indeed be true, you can get a nice huge chunk of money taken away.He got tired of his players exposing the truth of his cheapness in regards to everything. So instead of modernizing his practice facility, or having more then his 3 nephews running the scouting department... he instead shut everyone up with fines.

Slap Chad Johnson and James Jones right into the Rams line-up.
