Ochocinco Startable Week 1 (1 Viewer)

I'm not sure about starting Ochocinco week 1. On one hand, there's a lot of uncertainty about his role in the offense. On the other hand, they're playing the Dolphins and I expect them to score near forty. I think Ocho has a 75% chance of a scoring a TD in this game.

Can we get a pro/con debate on week 1 Ocho?

i've been debating him or f. jax as flex. i do not see ocho as an automatic start right now. hard to say how many looks he'll get, and the TE's get the red zone looks

Everybody is so scared and down on this guy. I realize he had a down pre-season, but I suspect with his talent, the guy is going to be a top-15 WR by the end of the year. The Patriots schemes may be difficult to comprehend but Ocho Cinco, as superficial as he is, is a smart and talented football player. You just can't ignore that and with essentially one of the best, if not the best QB in the NFL, Ocho Cinco will get his.

That being said, I'm starting him as my WR2 as I suspect New England will come out this season like a bat out of hell.

I thought Chad was gonna be overvalued like crazy, but his stock has dropped so far that he appears to be undervalued now. He went later in drafts than I would have thought and was gotten for pretty cheap in auctions.

Personally, if I was on any of my teams (he is not), I would start him this week. Like has been said, NE's offense could easily come on like gangbusters right out of the gate, and Ocho could definitely had a big hand in that.

I am starting him with zero hesitation. While I understand some people's trepidation in starting him, that offense/Brady make studs out of nobody WR's. Ochocinco is not a nobody WR. I think he is a lock to finish in the top 20 WRs and has a good chance to showcase his ability with a consistent QB, consistent coach and most importantly a consistent organization. I'd bet even money he grabs 75 yards and a TD this weekend in his debut.

I'm starting him over Jacoby Ford for the simple fact Tom Brady is throwing him the ball and it's the New England offense. I think it's a good bet he at least gets a TD.

This is one player that I have switched back and forth on throughout the week. To flex or not???? Beanie-Winslow-Ocho, Beanie-Winslow-Ocho, repeat. I think this will be a GTD for me and one from the hip so to speak.

Depends on your bench strength. I was thinking it would be better to sit him until he is more in sync. But my alternative, Mike Thomas, just lost his QB, so I will probably roll the dice with him.

For those banking on Ocho to be a top 20 wr I wish you luck. I don't see him being any more than a weak #3 wr at best. As a Pats fan I hope I'm wrong but from what I've seen from him this preseason in both practice and games I'm not optimistic. I think our wr corps as a whole isn't very good aside from Welker. There is no one that can stretch the field and keep db's honest. We also don't have that big physical wr that can muscle the ball away from defenders in traffic. This offense is going to have a ton of guys with 30-50 rec's with Welker the only guy with any upside IMO.

Ocho almost always busts out in the first week of the season:

2010: 12 for 159, 1 TD

2009: 5 for 89 plus 8 yards rushing

2007: 5 for 95, 1 TD

I would bet on him coming out strong with his new team, as he has something to prove.

I hope you are right but unfortunately he doesn't call the plays. It's all up to his coach or an audible by Brady.

I think there are a few too many rain clouds in this post. I agree that at the WR position they may not have any uuber fantasy studs, but their total passing stats as a team should again be near the top of the league. If they let Price play, I think he can run deeper routes successfully, but he probably won't be on the field enough to make an impact. Even without him, trying to cover Ocho, Branch, Welker, Gronk, Hernandez, and Woodhead out of the backfield will be next to impossible.People somehow are quick to right off Branch. He had three big fnatasy weeks last year and 3 others that were solid (plus the Jets playoff game which would fall into that category. Given that he was nicked up for 2-3 games and didn't play much in another, that's pretty decent fantasy production.Around Boston, for some reason people want to make a big deal that he did close to nothing in the preseason games, but they already know what he can do . . . they didn't need to make a big deal out of getting Branch involved.I also think both the TEs will end up being big fantasy producers, so while there may not be any true standouts at WR the TEs will do well.
