The man has a drug problem and needs help. People in the SP probably have a drinking problem that is just as bad...oh what's the use...yeah he was a waste. But not the only Bengal who was a bad character.

Correction, this country needs to stop wrongfully persecuting people for deciding what to do with the contents of their own mind. Either alcohol and cigarettes should be illegal, or all drugs should be legal. You cannot have your cake and eat it too.

Good for Odell. Now he can do his drugs, live happy, not worry about testing or Goodell or the Bengals being on his case.

Bye bye Odell. Have fun. You didn't really want to play football anyway. See ya in the papers when you go to jail next time.

I think he had a drinking problem not a drug problem before (If you can separate the 2) other then 1 is legal and 1 isn't.

On February 21, 2007, Thurman pleaded no contest to the driving drunk charge and said he was undergoing treatment for alcohol abuse.

What a waste.

You're putting cigarettes and alcohol/drugs on the same playing field?

You're right, cigarettes kill a LOT more people than the other drugs do. ;)

This is not the "government," but a private employer who does not want an alcoholic or drug abuser working for it. While not this public, "regular" guys get fired from jobs every day for both of those issues.

I wonder what would screw up society more if the same number of people did crystal meth that smoke cigarettes. :D

You are correct sir. And may I add that most of the junkies in America are on prescription drugs. They don't know it, of course, because that would be bad for business.Disclaimer: Sorry, can't ever help myself when it comes to this topic. I am at war with the legal drug pushers.

Correct, but I do not think businesses would care what recreational drugs people did if the government had not created such a stigma around it. You never hear of a breathilizer to get a job, or a nicotine test for a job, or as Brett Favre can vouch a Pain Killer test for a job; and this is because the government has decided that they know what is best for you, and which parts of nature should be legal and which should not. To quote Bill Hicks, "Doesn't making nature against the law seem a little bit..I don't know...unnatural."

Are you a libertarian?

Are you a libertarian?
Yes for the most part. There are things I disagree with a lot of libertarians about; For example, I am in favor of Universal Health Care, and for the War in Iraq (although for different reasons than we went in for), and I am somewhat opposed to free trade. On the topic of victimless crimes, ie prostitution, use of controlled substances, not wearing a seatbelt, etc I am most certainly libertarian. I am also very libertarian concerning the fact that I am very opposed to gun control laws.

Businesses care to the extent that your recreational drug use influences thier profit. Remember once you take a check from someone you generally have entered into an agreement that limits your rights a heck of a lot more than the govenment has any intention.BTW, I know of companies that have a total non-smoking policy and will not knowing hire a smoker. whether they "test" I don't know. Also, I know of a least two people fired because thier prescription drug habit made them poor employess.

I acknowledge what is deemed, legal, regulated, and totally illegal are all pretty random, but you are assigning attributes to governmental influence that may or may not really exist. Go figure some people don't need the government to legislate their ethics or morals in any direction. The situation here is a player and NFL issue, not anything that reflects a larger problem with society and freedom of choice...and I am libertarian.

I will stop here before turning this into a FFA thread.

This is completely pathetic. How someone could walk away from getting help and assistance from the NFL is so bizzare to me. How is there not any self-control when you could have a pretty decent path in life with the talents you have?

You would be surprised what you could walk away from - for good or bad reasons. People destroy their families and their lives with addictions. The NFL does not even make the list of behavioral disasters.
