Official 2008-2009 Yankees Off-season Thread (1 Viewer)

Mussina won a gold glove and had a great season, so I hope he will be back. I am not that crazy about Pettite, so if he stays or goes, it won't matter to me much. I really hope that they don't sign Manny....we already have Arod and that is enough drama for one team.

My dream offseason:

Trade Cano for Kemp (for some reason this rumor is still strong. Dodgers would be crazy to do this but Ill take it. Martin was also rumored for Cano)

Sign Sabathia

Resign Mussina

Resign Marte

Move Posada to 1B

Sign Hudson

This would leave a lineup of:

C- Molina (cant hit but his defense is worth a ton)

1B- Posada (not a great hitting 1B but should be decent)

2B- Hudson (stud fielder, solid hitter)

3B- ARod

SS- Jeter

LF- Damon

CF- Kemp

RF- Nady

DH- Matsui

SP- Chamberlain, Wang, Mussina, Sabathia, Hughes

RP- Rivera, Veras, Marte, Coke, Ramirez, Bruney

I like everything you say except for Posada at 1st base. I think it is time to get a "real" 1st baseman and stop moving others into that role.

why did they decline Marte? They working on a long term deal? I know he wasnt a world beater, but he's still a lefty reliever with a power arm.
Word is that they're working on a 3-year deal for him. Seems odd, I figured they'd pick up the option and then work an extension off of that. Saving a couple mil over three years while risking that he'll leave seems like a bad idea to me also.
Yanks sign Marte 3 years, $12 mil. Spanish language linkNow in English, too!

excellente. seems likes a good deal to me. He'll be better if Girardi keeps him in a short role.

Francessa says "His Sources" told him Posada was way ahead of schedule and the plan is for him to catch. He also has Sabathia penciled in.

From TSN: Phil Hughes pitched five scoreless innings and struck out 10 for the Javelinas of the AFL on Wednesday. He allowed two hits and walked none in what may have been the best start of the fall from a pitcher not named Tommy Hanson. Hughes finishes the AFL season 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA, 21 H and a 38/13 K/BB ratio in 30 innings. It is worth noting that he faced a weak schedule. In his seven starts, he faced the circuit's worst offense four times and the next-to-worst twice.

Good sign at least :lmao:

The ERA is a bit troubling against such poor competition.

Over 30 innings, the difference between a 2.40 ERA and a 3.00 ERA is two earned runs. That's such a small sample that I'm not worried in the least about that. Could have been a bleeder that found a hole instead of an inning-ending DP.I'm more concerned with the 13 walks. That projects out to about 90 over a full major league season.

Yanks decline arbitration to all players.

Not offering it to Abreu is just plain stupid. It's a gamble I suppose, but do they honestly think he's not going to get a multiyear deal elsewhere? I don't want him back, but now they get nothing! The guy just had several very good offensive seasons, and he's still a force.

Pettitte I understand because there's a chance he'd accept it and get around $13 mil, far too much for one year of an aging middle-of-the-road pitcher. I'd rather give Hughes a full season and miss the playoffs by 10 games than give Pettitte 33 starts and miss the playoffs by two.

The rest of them (Giambi, Mussina, Pudge, Pavano, Ponson, Moeller) were probably no-brainers. I had thought they would have possibly offered it to Giambi, but that was before the Swisher deal. And before I realized he was only a Type B.
