***Official 2009 Baltimore Orioles Thread*** (1 Viewer)

Well, another year of easy tickets at good prices to get my pops for xmas or fathers day. :loco:

Millwood is an inning eater. The Orioles needed someone like him. With him and Guthrie, we have two pitchers that should be able to go over 200ip. This is important since they will still be ramping up Matusz, Tillman and Bergeson to pitch a complete season.

The biggest positive I see is that Adam Eaton and Hendrickson are no longer contending for the starting rotation. This group has a legitimate chance to be above the league avg in innings per start and era. Two catagories the Orioles finished dead last in the AL last year.

No need for a loud offseason this year. The first goal should be to get out of the AL East basement. Trying to sign or trade for a blockbuster player would only add a few wins. They need to continue to grow from within and add an outside piece when it could actually make a difference.

My hopes for next year is a .500 season. That is how I will consider the season and the job Andy McPhail has done as a success or not.

Makes a lot of sense. I really like what the Orioles are doing, there is no need to throw long term deals to free agents just because. Wieters, Jones, and Markakis are a great core, and they already have some good role players on O. The key is going to be how their young pitchers develop.

Agreed. We will live and die by the success of our young pitchers. If Pie stays on the team and continues to improve, having him in LF would give the O's one of the top OF's in MLB. Josh Bell-3B (traded from LAD this season) is looking really good in the minors. I hope he turns out to be our long term solution at 3rd. Although, he won't make it up until late 2010 or 2011. I'm curious to see how they fill that spot this coming year. Roberts continues to be a fantastic leadoff hitter (lead league in doubles) and 2B. With Wieters behind the plate, our only issues are a power hitting 1B and SS. Michael Aubrey did pretty good at 1st towards the end of last season and Snyder is a talented prospect that may be ready in a year or two.We may not win much, but it has been entertaining to see this team grow and develop.

Wasn't there a rumor somewhere that the O's were looking to get Dan Uggla and move him to third? A proven, major league ready 3Bman would really help. Missing Mora's bat will hurt.

Never heard the Uggla rumor. So far this offseason I've heard: Feliz, Beltre, Atkins and Figgins real briefly. As for Mora's bat, we missed it last year. Unfortunately, he was still batting in the middle of our lineup. His defense on the other hand will really be missed.

They're saying that Atkins currently has 3 offers and Baltimore is rumored to be one of them. We'll see...

When do Orioles tix go on sale, and what is the best bet to get really good tickets (i.e. craigslist, a month before game, three months before game, etc).

As I have done before, got my dad tix as a gift... now we need to find time we are both off and get the tix.

Individual game tickets go on sale Saturday, January 23rd at 10:00am. Same time as Fan Fest. Plans and packages are already on sale.I went to Fan Fest last year and it was a blast. Got autographs from Markakis, Roberts, Jones, Huff, Guthrie etc. I'm trying to go again this year to get Wieters, Matusz, Reimhold and whoever else from the minor system they have there.

What's the deal with FanFest? I need to find a weekend to head to Baltimore and take my dad out to Tio Pepe's, maybe it can coincide.

It's being held in the Baltimore Convention Center this year b/c the O's start the season in TB and aren't going to be in town before the season starts.Last year they had Andy McPhail and Dave Trembley give a "State of the Union" address to everyone in attendance. Then all the players were lined up around the field and fans were able to wait in line to get autographs and meet them. It was really cool.I'm guessing it's in the Convention Center because of the weather. Tickets are $10 and I hope it's similar to last year. I have a Jones and Wieters jersyey that I am trying to get signed.
