BECKKKKKKKETT

:goodposting:

Hitting his spots and looking strong.

5 IP - 7K - 1H - 1R thus far

The dynamic duo of Pedroia / Youkilis currently combined for 3 for 5 with 1 BB and scoring 3 of Boston's 4 Runs.

EDIT:

BECKKKKKKKKETT

Settles down and pitches his way out of a No Out - 2nd & 3rd jam against Tampa's 3/4/5. :own3d:

6IP - 8K - 2H - 1R - 80 Pitches

Thus far, a very promising first start for Beckett.

Beckett Notches 10K

Pap notches 2 in his 1 inning save. Okajima is the only pitcher to really get touched.

Great game

lester gets smacked around in the 5th. youk looks great & papi being healthy will be a nice change from last year.

Red Sox are looking awful so far.

Does Ortiz have an extra base hit yet?

JD Drew sitting there watching three strikes to end the game vs the Angels on Sunday was terrible.

Lester hasn't been overwhelming.

The only Red Sox who is really a threat right now is Youkalis.

The Beckett throw at Abreu's led to a heated altercation. I really thought Justin Speier was gonna take someone's head off.

I hope the Red Sox turn it around before they are too far behind. Thankfully no one has really fired out of the gate.

Lester is someone to target due to the Verducci effect.

Premise is, young (under 30) pitchers who see significant workload increases over the previous year are liable to struggle early in the season due to having really torn up their muscles and requiring a good bit of game-time to get back in a groove. This has been confirmed by an interview with Orel Hershiser on ESPN earlier this season:

"He said that after a big increase in workload a pitcher's muscles have suffered a lot of microtears and the problem the next year is that 100% flexibility might not be there early in the season. He said that that's exactly what happened to him in 1989 after the Dodgers championship run in 1988. The announcer monkey specifically asked Hershiser if he thought the effect of the extra workload of one year would be felt more early or as the year went on and Hershiser quickly said 'early'. It sort of fits with Sabathia's 2008, too."

Same thing going on with pelfrey and went on with Carmona last year. Lester could be in for a mediocre year.

Beckett suspended 6 games for throwing at Abreu.

Link
Basically one start.
Exactly. Probably wouldn't have even gotten a suspension if he had just thrown at him and not made a move towards the plate and escalating it.
Yea. LinkLooking at that video, I think the throwing at the head thing was not the issue. It was his actions after that led to the suspension.

What i cant believe is Scioscia didnt get a suspension. He was being a complete **** for 2 innings until he got tossed.

Fixed. Great manager, but man he's a whiner!

awful

wtf Big Papi

Top of the lineup is not getting this offense in gear at all. Bottom of the lineup is the black hole of offense.

offense shows a little life. top of the order still sucking balls. nice to ellsbury get a couple of rbi's though.

love these knuckler gems, they're like free money.

I think yesterday's game could be an impetus for them. Had they fell to a sweep, it would have looked dismal. But the unexpectedly huge performance by wakefield, the late offensive outburst, and the day off for the relievers could set them up for a nice little run here. I'm a bit concerned with lester's recent form, tho. They really need to start the series with a W.

I thought this team was supposed to be good?
:lmao: how's nady? any news?
Only a little worse than Bucholz...and Dice K......and Lowrie......and Drew ( at some point in the season). The great news?.....we haven't even had a healthy Tex or A-Rod.Papi's looking a little long in the tooth isn't he?
how'd opening day go at the new digs??bucholz isn't hurt, just young. dice k, we shall see. lowrie does not equal nady. tex is going to struggle, just my opinion. #### arod, but he will make your team better.papi looks like ####.

I think they need to put Ortiz on the DL and bring up Lars. Ortiz is useless. Just an empty bat in the middle of the line-up.

Is anyone else having trouble getting into SoSH? I've been a lurking member there for years, but now when I try to log in keeps re-directing me to a "Board Offline" page.

Also, if anyone has juice there, can you get me access to all the forums? I'm randall146 there too.

Giddyup. Can't believe there was no chatter on a game like this. I was watching on slight delay and was avoiding the baseball forum because I didn't want the game ruined for me.
