RIP Jim Johnson, thanks for all of your great work over the years. :excited:

Man, without Johnson and Dawkins, I'm not even going to recognize this D.

Yeah, as soon as Crabtree gets his contract, I think Maclin will be signed. It gives either side leverage.RIP JJ. Does anybody know anything about McDermott? He will make or break the Eagles season this year.
He's coached under Johnson for years and will be running the same defense. Johnson has had some nice coaches come out from under his wing, so we'll see how the season and play calling plays out.

Condolences from the Dallas fans on the MB.

JJ was a great defensive mind which we all got to see twice a year. His aggressive style certainly was Philly to the core. Just remember that difficult news can often bring people (families/teams) closer and stronger as a collective unit.

RIP

####ing bah. I knew he was fighting cancer obviously, but did not know it was this bad. Thoughts and prayers to his family. This is a tough loss for the team and the city. JJ was one of the most respected sports figures in this town. His defense is a major reason this team has been so competetive for so long (maybe the main reason).

I realize Spadaro is just an AR mouthpiece...but you gotta love hearing this.....

• Running back LeSean McCoy is making more big plays early in these full-team practices than I think I have ever seen from a rookie. Everything about him has been impressive. He runs low, accelerates well and makes great cuts when he has the football in his hands. As a receiver, McCoy has been nearly flawless. In fact, I can't think of a pass that I have seen him drop all week. I'm sure McCoy hasn't been perfect as far as where he has lined up and the many mental challenges that he faces, but at no time have the coaches stopped a play because he lined up wrong, or ran a wrong route, or headed in the wrong direction out of the huddle.Maybe most impressive about McCoy is this: He is a physical, attacking, very willing and adequate blocker already. McCoy will continue to work on his strength and mature that way and it will help him become a better blocker, but he is already much better than I expected to see. McCoy threw Quintin Mikell down to the ground in one of his three pass-protection reps on Saturday morning -- he was good on two of the three plays and barely OK on the other one -- and really went after the blitzer, rather than laying back and absorbing the punishment.

I think it was quite telling that McCoy was immediately the #2 RB on the first day of camp. They expect him to have a meaningful role right out of the gate, it seems.

Anyone hear anything about Stewart Bradley's knee injury last night? Could be a torn ACL...
Was quoted as saying he "heard a pop." The fear is a torn ACL, requiring surgery.Per NBC 10

The first Eagles Flight Night might be remembered for all the wrong reasons after one of the Birds' most important players, Stewart Bradley, was injured.

The Eagles middle linebacker injured his knee and cornerback Ellis Hobbs left with a stinger during practice Sunday night.

Both players will have MRI tests on Monday. Bradley left the field on his own after getting hurt about halfway through the session. The extent of his injury wasn't immediately known, though trainers appeared concerned.

Bradley said he heard a pop, Howard Eskin said on NBC Philadelphia's Sports Final. It was unknown the actual extent of the injury but there was a fear that it could be an ACL tear that would require surgery, Eskin said.

The 6-foot-4, 255-pounder had 151 tackles in his first full season as a starter last year. He's the primary signal caller on a defense that already lost veteran safety Brian Dawkins in free agency.

Hobbs, acquired in a trade with New England, is competing for a starting job with Sheldon Brown and could also help out on special teams.

A total of 31,786 fans came out to Lincoln Financial Field to watch the inaugural Eagles Flight Night.

But the joy of the evening could be lost of either defensive contributor was seriously injured.

The ONLY good news about this is that it's very early, with time to figure something out.

After #5, I'm not sure there was a more vulnerable position on the team as far as season prospects go!

Will be interesting to see if they let Joe Mays start...I for one am rooting for him.

It will be good for the Eagles if Joe Mays can beat out Omar Gaither. I hope that he can, but Stewart Bradley is a huge loss. He had all the look of being something special at middle linebacker. At least the injury is early enough that he should be rehabbed for next season.

Just on radio torn ACL, out for year
Yea, this is very bad news. They can't survive with Gaither as the middle linebacker. They will go 6-10 if there lucky now
Cripes man, is the sky falling above your abode?Bradley is a loss, it really is. Gaither started at the MIKE and led the team in tackles in 2007. Plus isn't this his contract year? Time for Omar to step up if he wants paid. It's not like we now have to rely on an undrafted rookie to fill this spot.

The way we should be looking at the MIKE situation is as follows:

*** Root for Mays to win the job going away

*** If Gaither holds off Mays, we KNOW what Gaither offers and that's a lot less than Bradley

*** If Mays wins the job at least there's the chance his considerable practice field hype will translate into a difference maker

Either way, this =

:wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

of all the positions to have this happen to. What, one of the 12 DL couldnt have blown their ACL?

Oh well, c'mon Joe Mays. In Omar We Dont Trust

Is Derrick Brooks a possibility at MLB? At a minimum he would bring leadership and enthusiasm to a defense that needs it after the losses of Bradley, Dawkins, and Johnson.

:lmao: DB is pretty undersized for a LB, and always played WLB in the Tampa-2. Run blocking is the weakest part of his game, and MLB gets all the tackles. Maybe if it was an obvious passing situation he would be ok :lmao: How is Bunkley looking?

IMHO the chances the Eagles would go out and sign a veteran LB in his mid 30s at this point are slim and none. They'll go with Mays and Gaither and see who earns the job.

Derrick Brooks? Please. The man is too old to do anythig. If you thought Dawkins was a liability, Brooks is five times worse.

Normally I would agree but when your options are Mays and Gaither I dont think that Brooks is that much of a downgrade.

At least mays and gaither can run. Brooks was lame for half the year last year and leaders need to able to play. A leader that sucks is pretty much the most demoralizing thing ever. Be happy that Bradley got injured the third day into camp rather than the end of it. If Mays stinks it up, at least Gaither has some starting experience. I'm worried but not too worried.

PS. I second calling Trotter up. He would be a lot better then Derrick Brooks.

I've liked everything I've seen from Mays. I think he has a good chance to succeed.

Gaither is notorious for not being where he is supposed to be on certain plays. Can't have that in a 4-3 MLB.

Not that it solves the Eagles MLB problem, but the panthers just lost their run Defense today. Kemeatu (sp?) is done for the year and they pretty much fell apart last year when he was hurt.

I figure if the birds D is going to suffer, maybe every else can lose a key cog too

RB LeSean McCoy did it again during an 11-on-11 scrimmage - he curled out of the backfield and beat the defense down field before catching a 40-yard TD pass from QB Donovan McNabb.

RB LeSean McCoy looked better during a passing drill when he beat DB Jack Ikegwuonu with a nice inside move that picked up 20 yards.

Rookie RB LeSean McCoy has had a good camp, but coach Andy Reid wasn't happy with his effort during an ongoing scrimmage. "McCoy! McCoy!" he yelled across the field. "Finish the play!"

Juqua Parker busted for pot

Posted by Mike Florio on August 5, 2009 10:20 AM ET

In most years, the arrest rate involving NFL players drops dramatically during training camp, when teams have the highest level of regular access to the guys who might, when left to their own devices, get into trouble.

But that's not the case for the Eagles, where starting defensive end Juqua Parker has been arrested for possession of marijuana during the early stages of preseason practice at Lehigh University.

According to the Morning Call, Parker was a passenger in a vehicle that had been stopped for a traffic violation. He allegedly was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

If the allegation is accurate, it lends further credence to the reality that, once a player clears the early-season urine test for substances of abuse, the player has smoke as much pot as he wants until a month or so before the next season's test.

And it would be naive to think that marijuana smoking isn't prevalent in the NFL and other pro sports.
