***Official 2011 Philadelphia Eagles Thread*** (1 Viewer)

Well i found out info on the return game.

PR: D.Jax with Maclin backing him up

KR: Dion Lewis ( rookie ) with ....Ronnie Brown backing him up....

Eh dont like both top WRs tied to the PR position. Said alot of this over at BGN earlier today. I dont mind Lewis on returns because he handled them well in the preseason even though thats his only work doing them. Ronnie Brown as a back up? Has he ever returned a punt? Would have rather of seen Higgins or Moss kept and be the fulltime PR / KR too

Whethe its Brown or Lewis I could careless about the KR with the new rules...anyone should be able to catch the ball and kneel down. With us having Steve Smith this season I'm OK with them wanting to use Jackson and Maclin for PR. Jackson has been awesome at it and I'm glad they're starting him there.

The Eagles have shocked me once again this year - they just resigned Joselio Hanson / cut Lindley.

After a prolonged and excruciating three-day absence, cornerback Joselio Hanson has returned to the Philadelphia Eagles with a new two-year contract. You may recall Hanson as the man listed as "biggest surprise" in Saturday's cutdown day post since it was a surprise the Eagles weren't able to trade their very good nickel cornerback without cutting him. The three years and $$7.6 million Hanson had left on his deal were the hangup there, and the Eagles were able to outbid other interested teams with a two-year deal to bring him back. They cut Trevard Lindley to make room for him, they announced.http://espn.go.com/blog/nfceast/post/_/id/30233/joselio-hanson-signs-with-the-eagles

Is it too early to call the Eagles offensive line situation a Shambles?

Watkins was benched and DeVan, who was just picked up is starting.

4 of the 5 line positions will have new starters, with three of those positions filled for less

than a week and a half with their current starter.

I see the Eagles starting 0-2 and finishing at 10-6 (which should be enough to win the NFC East).

sooo, you're picking the Rams to win this week?

So we've benched Watkins in place of DeVan?

That's very discouraging. To bench a 1st round pick that's taken almost all the starters reps for a cap casualty we just grabbed off waivers really adds fuel to the fire that our line is in shamble. :(

The Rams are on a team on the rise and the game is away. It wouldn't be that big of a shocker.

I'm not really sure how to take that...we couldnt deal him and now he comes back as 4th CB...It looks like we as Eagle fans had a much higher opinion of him then the rest of the league did...

I wouldnt have been shocked if we lost or played a close game against them before this happening. I'm just wondering what they could have seen in DeVan so fast that made them change this now...or maybe it's what they saw in Watkins...either way this isnt good.

I would think it will be a close game. but very surprising if eagles cant pull it out somehow

So we've benched Watkins in place of DeVan?That's very discouraging. To bench a 1st round pick that's taken almost all the starters reps for a cap casualty we just grabbed off waivers really adds fuel to the fire that our line is in shamble. :(
To be fair Watkins has had a little over a month to get grasp of Mudd's scheme. DeVan has been here and don this before so i'd put him in there for a few weeks until they feel they are comfortable with Watkins gonig in. I think he'll eventually get it, this O-Line I think will come out and surprise people Sunday and eventually dominate.

Especially when he was supposed to be able to jump right into the starting lineup because of his age. He is going to be 27 in less then two months. Looking like a mistake.

And he was the one Mudd wanted, correct?

:goodposting: Not to mention he hasn't been playing football for that long.

Yes, I am. Would it shock me if the Eagles won the game? Not at all. But I think the Rams will be better this year, Theyare playing at home, and they have a fresh Steven Jackson would could conceivably run all over the Eagles front seven.Obviously, I think the Eagles talent will eventually come together; it is just ashame their first two games are against decent conference opponents on the road.

DeVan played for Mudd before and is gonna be great.

Hopefully the old rookie can make strides to be ready when the Eagles need him.

Not sure where I am getting my optimism but deal with it.

I've had them starting the season 1-1 since the schedule came out and I won't change that now. 10-6 is reasonable. Winning the NFC East is nice. But they need to win a playoff game or 2. They've lost their last 3 and haven't won a home playoff game since '06. For me, I don't care if they go 9-7 (or 9-6-1) and win the WC or go 12-4 with a bye. They have to win in the post season. 12-4/13-3 don't mean squat if they don't go deep in the playoffs. Another one-and-done would be an unsuccessful season imo.

Maybe not a shocker, but the Eagles are pretty big favorites coming in at around -240 at most gambling sites. Sure the Rams are improved, but they still aren't better than the Eagles; home or away.

I'll be excited to see them stop the run. I am not as concerned on the offensive side of the ball as their O-Line was a shambles last year too. I am more concerned to see if our LB squad can plug the gaps and stop the run. If we can do that, then I'll be stoked.

Now yall see why I #####ed so much at their drafting the past few seasons.

Welcome to my little corner of the room. I have some soda and cake if you are hungry lol.I really have to wonder what Reid & Juan are thinking by watching Mudd pretty much gut the Oline & Depth that they built up ( never said it was a great build though ) only to leave the line with the same questions.

Yea I am already setting bets on how many yards Jackson drags Matthews for in total

The idea is if you draft a 27 year old rookie, he needs to make an immediate impact, if not you should have drafted someone younger. Watkins really does not have a year to burn to learn the game. If he was 22 it would not be that big a deal. I have no idea why you think he will be starting before the bye. Is he going to get better on the bench? They did everything they could to allow for him to start and it did not work. The fact that he can't even play guard is telling. Drafting a guard in the first round is usually a bad move, let alone a 26.5 year old one. He's Winston Justice part 2.

I think if they start out slow and come on near the end of the season to finish 10-6, they will be in good shape heading into the playoffs. Yes, playing an extra wildcard game and playing on the road is not preferable, but the Steelers, Giants, and Packers were all able to win the Superbowl from the wildcard game. I think with the talent the Eagles have, if they all get adjusted to each other and the new coaches by the end of the season they could easily go on a roll and have a successful postseason. That's my hope, of course.

You would have a point if this was week 1 of 2012. But it's not so you don't. There was this thing called the lockout that deprived him of months of learning and reps. An extra month of work will get him starting by the bye week.

None of this is a shocker if anyone been reading what i been saying.

Jackson will be in half way thru this game if they want a chance to win this.

Pretty happy with todays game, especially after hearing more than one "expert" call for a Rams upset. The O-line was shaky early, but played better as the game went on. Siilarly, the LB corps got gashed early, but played better in the second half. It was pretty obvious that the Rams gameplan centered around attacking the LB corps both in a short passing attack and with counter/misdirection running plays.

McCoy looked great. Vick however, didn't. I know his stats look OK, but he misfired far too often. We need him to play better if we're going to make a deep playoff run.

Hopefully the Falcons O-line continues to struggle next week...I'd be stoked to see the Eagles return home 2 - 0!

The biggest improvement I saw was the Defensive line in passing situations. It was a pleasure to see 4 guys rushing AND getting to the QB consistently. That Rams o-line is no pushover. They have a lot of top draft picks that have gelled for many years now. Babin and Jenkins are huge upgrades to what we have had. Thats only going to make our LB's better as the year goes one.

One thing I heard in the postgame and did see was the fact that Matthews looks confused as to what play to call and where to get guys in position. There were a few times Cheney came in and repositioned Matthews presnap. Why isn't cheney the Mike with Matthews the Will? They are both playing out of position. I think putting them at their natural positions would help immediately but this seems like the old Andy Reid square peg in a round hole theory of linebacking.

Overall, good game but there's a lot to improve upon.

Happy to see I blew this prediction. Although it did help that Steven Jackson went out with an injury with a 28 yards per carry average.I would love to see the Eagles nut it up against the Falcons and come home 2-0. It will be a tough game though, especially with the Falcons desperate after getting killed by the Bears.

Vick returning home. Gonna be the game of the week on all the news channels.

I get a baaaddd feeling about this game. IMO, Turner is going to kill that D. He ran for 100 against CHI and they have a much better front 7 than the Eagles do.

I forget if I heard it here or somewhere else but I recall hearing that the way Castillo's defense is played, the SAM has a bigger role. I believe that the way the DL attacks leaves the SAM out on a bit of an island and can become an attacker as well as cover the TE so I think they see Cheney as being able to fill that role better. But yes, Matthews definitely could be improved on out there. I was surprised we never went after any of the veteran MLB's that were available in free agency.

I think the Eagles pass all over Atlanta. Atlanta will try to slow the game down but they have no answer for our speed on the outside. If the Eagles do not get up on the right away, it could be a long day. Actually I am 99% sure thats how its going to be for most of the games of this season.

Matthews looks like practice squad material. Its hard to find why the eagles like him so much...his name is about all that stands out.

Oline played better late in the game but it is still scary. There were alot of guys coming at Vick basically untouched.

LBers just looked...i don't know, like they weren't even on the field.

The Eagles looked vulnerable early, and with our linebackers I'm concerned we'll have issues all year in that department. But with CBs that can be on an island and a d-line that looks devastating, I'm sure Castillo and his coaches will help scheme them some help, likely from Jarrad Page and Kurt Coleman.

The O-line is less of a concern IMHO. I think we saw early game jitters, sure, but they really settled down. Kelce seemed to be a bit overwhelmed at first but once he got up to the speed of the game, and getting the line adjustments made, they became much more efficient.

The Falcons are a very talented 0-1 team that will have plenty of motivation this week. I wouldn't be surprised if we lost, but that wouldn't bother me too much as long as we played well. We're not going 16-0 and this road trip to ATL was pegged as a "L" in my mental W-L record anyway.

Matthews worries me. He was getting swallowed up by blockers. Not too worried about the OLine. Most of the free runners at Vick were due to missed assignments not linemen getting physically beat. Once they get used to playing with each other and knowing the assignments the protection will be better.I can already see the gameplan against the Eagles will be run, run, run.

Just some quick things I noticed:

Matthews is not a hitter at all...he runs right into a blocker and just can't get off and even when blitzing he just uses his hands, there's no power from him.

Nice to see 4 of the 5 sacks coming from just the 4 DL

DCR does not seem like a good fit (so far) in the slot

We better develop a short, quick passing game and fast. Teams are just blitzing us like crazy and it showed.

I'm scared to face a team that actually can run the ball

I thought the OL actually played better then my expectations...the DC for the Rams just brought more then we could block.

McCoy looked very good and very fast

The WildCat from the 3 with Ronnie Brown and 5 WR's where he ran straight was just silly...

All in all good thing it was the Rams and that they lost almost every key piece to injury...and that fumble recivery and TD was huge! I'll take the road win and hope Atlanta plays like they did against the Bears next week!

I thought the Eagles Defensive Line was the most impressive thing to me from this game. The way they put pressure on Bradford was the key to that game. If we get that same pressure next week on Ryan I think we will be ok.

It was the most reassuring thing that came from that game. Vick, Desean and McCoy are going to get theirs. The D-Line was just awesome yesterday. Now they need to work on the run-stopping though. That's where the weakness at LB is going to be exposed over and over this year.

Too aggravated to even say much about this game right now but the problems off hand are what was expected...poor LBing play, some questionable play calls and Reid and his lack of flag challenging skills.
