Hass is gone and TJ will be signed on Friday. I think it says more about how bad Whitehurst is, rather than how good TJ is. 2010 looked bleak and they won the NFC West...anything is possible in 2011.

Sources tell ESPN's Chris Mortensen that free agent Matt Leinart is now weighing signing with the Redskins against the Seahawks.Per Mort, Mike Shanahan had a high grade on Leinart coming out for the 2006 draft. (He took Jay Cutler one pick later.) Leinart would add another uninspiring option to an ugly Washington quarterback depth chart. However, we'd give Leinart a better chance of starting over John Beck than Tarvaris Jackson in Minnesota. Jul 26, 9:06 PM

Will Herring -Out @dannyoneilDanny O'Neil CONFIRMED: LB Will Herring will be leaving #Seahawks to sign with the #Saints.

Olindo Mare-Out per Adam Schefter via twitter K Olindo Mare to the Panthers on a 4 yr deal for $12mil with a $4mil signing bonus

I would hope they sign a FA kicker also for competition.

Maybe, just maybe.

This guy has been right a lot in the last 2 days.

**UPDATED NFL RUMORS**Source: Nnamdi has narrowed his choices down to Jets / 49ers / Texans but a late charge by Seahawks has made him think

Nnamdi wants to act? Pete Carroll can use some of his Hollywood connections to persuade him. "Hello Nnamdi, this is Will Ferrell... I'm a good friend of Pete's"

Seahawks signed No. 107 overall pick WR Kris Durham to a four-year, $2.504 million contract.Durham was labeled a reach in many circles after playing behind A.J. Green at Georgia, but at least one team liked the pick. The Chiefs called Seattle to congratulate them on picking up a size-speed gem in the middle rounds. The Seahawks plan to use Durham as a red-zone specialist early in his career.

Seahawks agreed to terms with DL Alan Branch on a two-year, $8 million contract with $4 million guaranteed.

The Cardinals wanted to re-sign Branch, but they were never going to pay him this kind of money. He may be a better fit in Seattle's scheme anyway. The Seahawks, under Pete Carroll, have placed an emphasis on size in the front four. Branch has that in spades at 6-foot-6, 340 with the ability to play both five-technique tackle and nose. He'll push Red Bryant to start at left end.
LOVE THAT SIZE!!! :hophead: :excited:  :banned: :boxing:

I really like the branch signing. He should be good depth and definitely better than last years starter cole. I wanted him when he came out in the draft a few years back.

I have serious doubts about this. Branch's stats aren't impressive. It would be interesting to hear from a Zona homer on this signing. Will they miss him? Why or why not? Was he a poor scheme fit there? Attitude?

His stats last year are probably comparable mebane's. Stats dont mean squat for dts. I also see him as insurance for red bryant, whom i read was running around doing drills yesterday with no brace :excited:

Call me crazy but I would really like seattle to bring in nick barnett at ILB and try to unload tatupu in a trade. He still had excellent leadership skills but I see him as a liability on the field. I read that sea is interested in him and was in play for takeo spikes.

I was interested in something similar. I still think they should go after Diles....>What do the LBs look like right now?Curry - Lofa - ??????with Leroy backing up?I think Diles would fit nice on the outside. Not sure if Barnett is an upgrade from Lofa.

I was doing cartwheels when the Cards traded up to the 1st pick in the 2nd rd to pick Branch (3 spots ahead of where Kolb was taken). Projected as a mid-high 1st rounder months earlier, I thought it was a steal. It was pretty evident early on why he slid. For the first few seasons he never really made it on the field, when asked Coach Whiz often used the phrase "We are waiting for the light bulb to come on". Branch seemed disinterested or unable to cope with the pro game, despite possessing the body of a pro bowler. In 2009 (I think) they switched him from NT (looks like a perfect 3-4 NT) to the DE rotation and that made a big difference. He stayed in the rotation last year and made some nice plays. I'm not sure what his deal is. I've seen flashes of quality play and he certainly has the physical tools, but the light bulb never seemed to stay on, often on the verge of missing the final roster. I would have liked to seen him back, but he would have been battling for a roster spot yet again. His potential will be missed, but he never contributed much. good luck.

Can't forget our best LB hawthorne. And I am a firm believer that if healthy, barnett would be a better player than lofa. Lofa is just over matched physically by most players.

Thanks for the response! sounds like a solid pickup for depth. Who knows, maybe carroll can light the fire in him. He is all about competition after all.

oh man, I feel like a tard. so Diles would be more depth.LofaHawthorneCurryDilesHillI like that core.

So Lofa isn't in practice today. Rumors are buzzing that he is being shopped, and even more people are saying that it's all about getting Carson Palmer.

....just some food for thought.....

@espn_nfcwest

Mike Sando, ESPN.com Carroll: Tarvaris Jackson is Seattle starter til others can learn offense. His job to lose.

No real surprise at this point. Jackson knows the offense and Whitehurst was horrible in his limited playing time last year.

Good. If SF can take them down week 1, he will go on to lose 3 of the next 4 and hit the bench. PIT, ATL and NYG will kick his ###. ARI may also beat this loser. Rice and Wiliams are worthless until then.

I was hoping to have Whitehurst in there so BMW could put up enough #'s to trade him but now I have to hold him.

The hawks have made some decent moves i guess. and then there's tarvaris (sp?)

Do they think he's all the sudden gonna be any good? Apparently. good luck with that Pete.

The hawks would've been better off keeping hassellbackiotomy.

Somehow the Titans had enough faith to pay Hasselbeck and to draft Locker to learn behind him, but the Seahawks didn't have enough to keep Hass and move up to get Locker? Who's looking better this year? A year of TJack and Whitehurst (sounds liek a bad tv show) has got to be depressing.

Per Danny O"Neil Tatupu was advised to restructure his contract or be released. I don't understand, Seahawks are paper thin at LB. Also, Coutu was signed to compete at K, for those who remember the name Ruskell drafted him 2 years ago, but Mare beat him out.

@AdamSchefter

Adam Schefter After Seahawks asked LB Lofa Tatupu to take a paycut, he asked them to release him. The team now plans to do so, albeit reluctantly.

Seahawks released MLB Lofa Tatupu.David Hawthorne will move to middle linebacker and be a threat for 140-150 tackles. Hawthorne is a better player than Tatupu at this stage -- especially in run defense -- and the Seahawks weren't going to pay their longtime Mike 'backer over $4 million after double knee surgery in January. Tatupu is a big name, but he's losing game quickly. The 29-year-old may have to settle for a one-season pact elsewhere without much guaranteed money.

Called it, kinda. I do wish wr would have made a play for barnett, but I am a little relieved I won't be frustrated with tatupu's play this year.

Still a few free agents I would like us to look at:

Carlos Rogers

Manny Lawson for Leo

Kirk Morrison

LeRon Mclain

Free-agent tight end Zach Miller is close to signing a deal with the Seattle Seahawks, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Miller, 25, went to his first Pro Bowl last season after recording 60 receptions, 685 yards and five touchdowns with the Oakland Raiders.

The Seahawks have been busy during free agency. After letting veteran quarterback Matt Hasselbeck go in free agency, they released fan favorite linebacker Lofa Tatupu.

Seattle also signed former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson, hoping that the 28-year-old signal-caller can become the team's starter. The Seahawks followed that up by nabbing one of the most coveted receivers on the market in Sidney Rice, who played with Jackson on the Vikings, and added offensive lineman Robert Gallery.

Twitter reports that it should be done by morning.

I hate to piss all over everyone's parade, but I can't be the only Seahawk fan that keeps wondering.... Two rookie starters on the offensive line? Really? How did that work for SF last year? And I have serious doubts about Unger.

:ducks:

Seahawks signed DE Jimmy Wilkerson to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.

Wilkerson had 16 tackles and two sacks last year as a backup. His ability to play both defensive tackle and end at 6'2/270 is his greatest strength.

You have to believe they are gonna be better than the revolving door our mediocrity that was the seahawks line last year. A healthy Okung and Cable as the line coach alone should help.

I"m excited about the line because it can't be any worse than the last two years. They are young, and for the first time we have some guys that play nasty and mean. Unger gets a bad rap, I think you will be surprised this year how good of a center he is...upfront I wan't to state I am a Duck homer. ;)
