***Official 2011 World Series Thread - Rangers vs. Cardinals*** (2 Viewers)

####### Matt Holliday. He has sucked completely in these playoffs following intentional walks to Pujols. Way to protect Albert.

Does Craig not know how to slide? He looked terrible on both stolen base tries and slid about 5 feet too early on both attempts. Atrocious.

nice job texas. still think for texas to win this that tomorrow is a virtual must-win... tough when it's against Carp.I hope they have it in 'emlast night's game was kind of a circus, i prefer my baseball relatively low scoring like in game 2/4
So you're one of the many KC people that hates St. Louis?
Yeah, I think it's ingrained in me from the '85 series as a child (i was 8 - went to game 1 - Denkinger) to root against the Cards.I should be pro Missouri, but i can't do it.if it makes you feel any better, i'm fine with the rams and rooted for them in '99 and even harder in '01 and am still hacked about that result. But the Cards? If they played the Yankees I might root for St. Louis, but I probably just wouldn't watch.

Why in the world would you have someone running with Pujols up down by 2?
Are you actually watching live?
I just ask because both of your questions have been answered on the telecast. Figured you might not have the television. The answer to why he was running: It was a full-count and they wanted to stay out of a double play. This kind of play happens in almost every big league game. The manager assumes that the hitter can either draw ball four or put a strike in play.

TLR just burned a pitcher to issue an intentional walk. That is inexplicable.
I've never seen that before. I wonder why he just didn't leave Rzepczynski in there. Bizarre.
They didn't have Motte up and ready. The move for Lynn was a stall tactic to get Motte warmed up. Now why Motte wasn't already ready to face Napoli, I have no idea...
Genius
Yeah, as complimentary as I was of him after Game 1, I'm equally as critical of him in Game 5. Weak sauce.

I know what McCarver said, I was really questioning the strategy. It was a bad decision. TLR was awful tonight.

He could have accomplished the same thing without wasting a pitcher. Go out talk to Rzepczynski, wait for the umpire to break it up, have Rzepczynski throw 4 wide ones and then go out there again. Motte should have been able to throw about 10 to 15 pitches within that time plus the 8 or so he gets to throw when he comes in the game. If the Cardinals had tied it up and the game went into extra innings I'm sure LaRussa would have wished he didn't burn Lynn to intentional walk somebody.

Tonight's loss is on the offense. They couldn't buy a freaking hit when it mattered. They will be done on Wed night if they don't remember how to get a hit with RISP. Oy.

It was not a bad decision. He's the best hitter in baseball, but he's also really prone to the DP this year. He has a very good contact rate for a power hitter, so he's pretty much the perfect guy to send the runner on a full-count. Pujols actually swung at a ball there, so I think TLR can stand by that decision. There were several things I would say were questionable decisions tonight, I really don't think that was one of them.

Agreed. Hell Rzep could have taken forever to intentionally walk someone.

According to the post-game press conference, sounds like it was supposed to be Motte throwing in the bullpen all along. Some sort of miscommunication in the bullpen. Sounds like TLR was pretty surprised to see Lynn when he got to the mound, thought he was calling on Motte.

Seriously, I have a really hard time buying a micro-manager like TLR would have a breakdown like that in a key situation. I heard that story on the post-game, but that has some poo-poo smell to it.

I'm inclined to agree, but it is worth noting this reaction on the mound when Lynn emerges from the pen. My link

I know everyone is going to rip TLR for what happened last night, but is it really going to affect the bullpen going forward? 25 pitches for 4 pitchers and an off day for travel, I would suspect everyone will be available and ready to go.

He just looks foolish, but it doesn't mess with his team.

If Albert were making 10 more milllion a season this would not be happening!! The Cards would be winning in 4.

Has anyone ever heard of the batter putting on the hit-and-run by himself?

And if so, doesn't Pujols have to at least put a bat on the ball and foul it off no matter where the ball was?

To be fair, I think I'm heading to Twitter with an inappropriate comment of my own if they show Washington do his 4-year-old "gotta potty, mommy!" dance one more time. It was humorous the first time. A little. But after every extra base hit? Jesus Christ.

Nothing against the guy, but geez. It's not endearing, it's just kinda weird. I'll let Fox and Wash share the blame 50/50.

Also, before anyone cries sour grapes: I don't have a problem with the Rangers or Wash as a manager. Just his stupid dance and Fox's fascination with it.

Carry on.

Better fire up the twitters or hope for a perfect game from your pitchers. It's fun and endearing when it's your manager getting excited about something good happening for your team. Not surprising to hear it's the opposite when it's the opposing manager getting excited about something bad happening for your team.

Not sure how viewers with no rooting interest feel. Maybe somewhere in between.

I watch lots of baseball, and this isn't my first time seeing Ron Washington. I'd like to think this being the World Series against "my team" doesn't taint my view on this. Maybe you think it does, I don't know. It's just a ridiculous reaction that has to wear thin on people around the situation. I bet if you polled the 25 Rangers publicly, all 25 of them think its awesome because he "has their back". If you polled them in confidence, my guess is that more than a few of them would say it is a tired act and even a little embarrassing. He literally looks like a 3-yr-old doing a pee pee dance.

This is the big leagues, nothing wrong with getting excited from time to time, but you should also act like you've been there before.

Twitter dogpile following a rough night for the genius...

AaronGleemanIf this were a fight, Washington would be standing in his own corner watching La Russa punch himself in the face.
@robneyerWash played 'Manage the Baseball Game'; LaRussa played game of 'Point to the Doll Where the Baseball Game Touched You.'

Literally?I disagree, but I'm admittedly a huge homer. Wash being Wash is a big part of how this team plays and how this team reacts to adversity. The atmosphere he has helped cultivate probably has something to do with how easily they bounce back from losses.

He's just not a stoic manager like a La Russa or a Leyland. Never has been. No good would come from changing into one now.

I love baseball.
I hope that the I claim to love baseball, but really only like the Yankees, Phillies, Cubs and Red Sox guys are not missing this series. Each game has provided something different.
:goodposting: This has already been the best World Series since 2002 by far, and if Saint Louis takes Game 6 and we get a dramatic Game 7 then this will easily rank among the best of the last 30 years.

I actually reversed my opinion on Wash. At first I thought it was kinda childish, but now I crack up every time.
