***Official 2011 World Series Thread - Rangers vs. Cardinals*** (1 Viewer)

Ron Washington is too much of a gentleman to ##### and moan about it, but the Rangers were done a huge disservice when yesterday's game was postponed due to a few raindrops which never came. Now, Carpenter is in play for game 7 and he has no right to be.

Man, Washington really overplayed this, now Holland is burned for tomorrow. It is going to be some kind of epic. Wow.
He got to the bottom of 9th and Feliz with a 2 run lead, hard to fault him too much up to that point. Although I really question the decision to run Holland out there in the 8th.
i was surprised he pulled Feldman. Obviously, Lowe had nothing
I hate Texas but have grown to like Ron this playoff run. He's human and seems like a good guy so I hope he doesn't get crushed too badly. But on top of it all, I don't know that I pull Feliz there. He was a strike away, and even though Freese hit it hard, I think Cruz misplayed the ball. 2nd guess but should Chavez have been in there getting Cruz out of that game? I think Hamilton's instant answer lets you go back to Feliz who hadn't been touched in the postseason prior to that. For me, life on the line with a banged up Napoli, I want to win, I'm giving Feliz a batter in the 10th, even with 2 lefties up OR I'm going straight to Feldman who had been pretty good all postseason. I'm not looking for Darren Oliver to be something he's not after 20 years of baseball.

Yeah I know Uehara was shaky in the playoffs, but I'd rather have him than Mark Lowe any day (Lowe got the WS spot over Uehara). Uehara had a .72 WHIP this year!

I wonder if Matt Holliday will play tomorrow? Guy is probably in intensive care right now getting a blood transfusion. Hope he makes it.

Lowe had a 67.50 ERA in two appearances in last year's WS

I have to be up at 5am and I'm too torqued to sleep. I can't imagine having a team invested in a game like that on either side, what emotion.

And if there has been a bigger, better baseball game ever played, brother show it to me. Based on drama, the stakes, Rangers having never won, Pujols last game(?), the hometown boy doing the damage, I mean, you can't script crap like that.

If they complete the job, put them with the 1980 USA Hockey, 07 football Giants and Buster Douglas as the most unlikely champions I've ever seen.

From Motte giving up 6 runs in the 9th, in the last week, against a dead as a doornail Mets team on a getaway day, to shocking the world against the Phillies, to going through their divisional rival to this. Wow. 4th and goal tomorrow, I hope they punch it in.

Nolan Ryan will go all Robin Ventura on Ron Washington if he even sees Mark Lowe warming up tomorrow night

Pretty sure he was in favor of waiting if there was any chance of rain as he didn't want to start and have to stop and resume.

Yea this was a big blunder. You don't put in that horrible pitcher for a 2-out runner at first situation.

Rangers have no beef with Game 6 being pushed back a day. They had every opportunity to close it out. If they lose now, it's all on them, not the postponement and Carpenter pitching.

I saw an article how the ratings are down in the East this year as far as TV.

Well when games end at 1am no matter how good the game is if your team is not in it, it's hard to justify staying up that late. [/rant]

The Feldman move, but befoer that not bringing Adams in for the 8th. I was fine letting Holland pitch to Berkman to make him bat righty, but you have to bring Adams in after that.... Lot's of blame to go around in this one, but the buck stops with Wash. He made some terribel decisions. I love the guy and am not pissed at him, but I really wish he would have done a better job managing that game.

First pitch was at 5:05

So obviously this didn't matter - but in the bottom of the 11th - why did Washington leave German in the game and take out Nelson Cruz? Thus putting the pitcher in the 6 spot when German made the last out. This move:

1) Took Nelson Cruz out of the game; and

2) Made the pitcher the 6th hitter coming up.

Shtick, right?

Why did they try to rip his shirt off?
Berkman put in his precious piece setting Freese up for the grand finale, the home run that made an entire town go nuts. A representative of the Baseball Hall of Fame showed up in the Cardinals' clubhouse to receive Freese's bat and jersey. And why not? This was instant baseball mythology.

Rest of Article
Must have been disappointed when he found the jersey ripped to shreds.

Well at least the Cards earned this game 7 with their All-Star game win.
... and Texas only had to beat 3 divisional opponents to become "champs" of that "division." Things happen. ETA: ;)

Nelson had a groin tweek that "forced" the move in the 11th.

I tell ya what, after seeing the replay now numerous times, how did Cruz not catch Freese's hit in the 9th? He catches that, it's over. And he should have. Like John Kruk said, if he had to put a hole in the outfield wall, you make the catch and do it, but how do you slow up like that? Not quite Buckner-esque, but still pretty bad.

Agreed. I thought for sure when he hit it that it was an out. Especially since they were already playing deep.

Ah. I missed that. Can he play tonight?

I have had to delete myself about a dozen times in this thead so far this morning.

Some flat out stupid comments made.

Team of destiny, kind of like the Red Sox when they won it all. The Cards have no business finding themselves in the position they are in; but now they have wrecked Ogando and gotten to Neftali. Holland is used up and CJ Wilson will be limitted at best - so it will take an otherworldly performance from Texas staff to slow down the momentum. That said - every year seems to produce an unexpected World Series hero. Could that be Harrison? As a Cardinal fan I have an uneasy feeling heading in to game 7.

Did he hurt his groin before that and couldn't get a decent jump on the ball? That is the only thing I can think of, other than he just blew it

Yeah, I thought that was it. I guess maybe the groin injury was slowing him down, because that looked pretty bad. Flashbacks to Vlad trying to play RF in San Francisco last year. Cruz also probably should have been playing a little deeper. Can't let anything get over your head there. It was very well hit though.
