***Official 2013/2014 NHL Regular Season Thread*** (1 Viewer)

great matchup between captain terrific and slippery pete tonight at the XYZ. will be tough without swedish fish in the lineup but they should have enough depth with sammy icetime and big poppa pump back there.
was just going to ask if anyone else was looking forward to this as much as I am.

The bottom bowl at the Joe looks empty
Always does.
Just more than normal tonight.
Thanks for the update Titletown Tom. Red Wings had the 7th longest sellout streak in North American sports history with 452 from 1996-2007 (also the longest in NHL history), averaged 100% capacity last year, and have sold out every game this year.

When they come to DC to play your ####steak Capitals with your one Eastern Conference Finals banner in the rafters, there will be about 4k Red Wings fans to remind you how much you suck balls.
You wish you had these
Tom has copies of those in his bedroom in the basement of his parent's house.

Pretty sure I brought up the stupidity of pet names in the Offseason thread and back then you guys all said it was great shtick...

Gonna be tough to top that Bruins ending ... Krejci tip with 0.8 seconds left in a game they had no business winning, handing the Sharks their first regulation loss.

Gotta say I'm amazed that two of the knowledgable hockey guys in here have never heard Chara called Zeke.
The only Zeke I have heard of was Isiah Thomas, and I'm pretty sure he isnt playing hockey

I have never heard him called that in the seven years he's been in Boston.

Speaking of Zeke ...

I was at last night's game and I noticed Chara was giving the business to Hertl every chance he got, including a pretty blatant throw to the ice right after the whistle in front of the net in the third period that didn't get called. I couldn't figure out whether it was just trying to get under the skin of a 19-year-old as a "welcome to the league" kind of thing, or if he was still going after him a bit for the between-the-legs goal a couple of weeks ago.

Why would Chara care in the least about a goal Hertl scored in a game 2 weeks ago that his team wasn't even involved in?

I don't know. But Adam Oates was pretty fired up about it, too, with his comments the next day.

Just seemed odd, because I was trying to keep an eye on Hertl whenever I could when he was on the ice.

I think there were a few things in play last night, none of which have to do with the goal vs. NYR you mentioned...

1. Hertl early on this season was given a lot of ice by opposing Ds. Now that he's proven he knows what to do with it, I suspect teams are playing him tighter.

2. Hertl normally plays on the top line with Thornton and Burns, two huge guys who take up a lot of physical attention down low. With Burns out last night, defenses can expend that extra effort towards Hertl.

Oates was being completely irrational for being fired up about it, hopefully Chara and every other player in the league knows better than that.

Maybe Chara just doesn't like Hertl because he's a Czech? Or most likely he's just doing his job by trying to intimidate a young talented kid.

was really looking forward to the big home and home test for the Wild with the Hawks. but with Brodin and Harding out (in addition to Coyle not ready yet), I'm far less excited about it.

As I mentioned earlier, this was my other thought. I guess I was just seeing things that weren't necessarily there.

Hell you could be right, I'm just hoping Chara and every other player in the league don't see things like Oates.

Rud and Sherriff just stirring the pot again. couple of rats.
Was talking about you and Rud. Most other opinions and I stress most because I only glance over this thread as it hurts my head are useless. Zeke must be an Ottawa thing that trickled down to Toronto and went no further. It was by no means common but it was used. The wife and step kid were Ottawa fans living in Ottawa during the Chara years and they had heard it used.

Meh, I wouldn't worry so much. If the first handful of games this season has been any indication, the Hawks will likely be up until the third and then allow the Wild to tie the game to bring it to OT.

Or the Hawks will trail for the entire game.

I am in Florida and haven't seen any of it.

Phaneuf did a great job on Crosby tonight, he gets way too much heat as "overrated", "not a top pairing guy", etc... He's pretty damn good for the most part.

Kadri may really take off here with Bozak out and him centering Kessel and JVR. The Bolland-Raymond-Clarkson line was very effective (and should be a great 3rd line when everyone returns to the lineup).

Will be nice to see this team healthy, may not happen soon though with Lupul, Kulemin, Bozak all out now. Loving Rielly and Gardiner on the back end,

Schenn for JVR looks like a better deal for the Leafs every day.

Backstrom was surprisingly outstanding tonight.

Granlund is going to be a star in this league.
Only saw small chunks of the game, but every time I was watching the Wild were scoring. Hoping the Hawks bring a better effort on Monday. :kicksrock:

Hawks controlled much of the game, Backstrom made several circus saves he typically doesn't make, and the Wild were capitalizing on their opportunities. Really, the opposite of how this season has gone so far for the Wild. PK, which has been troublesome this year, came up big. Hawks had lots of PP time including yet another 5 on 3.

Yup, pretty much assumed here in Mn that Vanek will be with the Wild next year. Strange deal but Buffalo is stocking picks.
