You'll get some more when they turn around and deal Moulson at the deadline.I think they could have gotten more.Yep, you're right. Still a nice haul for a guy they assumed wasn't coming back.Moulson a pending FA also I thinkThat's an expensive rental.
As an islanders fan, I'm interested in the backstory here. How is it assumed, did either the wild or TV come out and say he wants ot be there? Does he have friends on the wild? Whats the deal?Yup, pretty much assumed here in Mn that Vanek will be with the Wild next year. Strange deal but Buffalo is stocking picks.
Went to college here, lives here in the offseason, works out with guys from the a Wild in the offseason and is close friends with Pominville. Mike Russo is one of the Wild beat writers and has said that the a Wild front office openly discusses how aggressive they will pursue him. And conveniently, Heatley's $7.5 mil deal expires after the season. Brasky probably has more back story on some of his connections to the Wild that I am forgetting. As an islanders fan, I'm interested in the backstory here. That would make sense RT @Rhinooh: More likely BUF flips Moulson for picks/prospects before the deadline
I don't think he's been at risk but not sure this says muchSo, Is Regier safe for a bit now? You wouldn't think they'd let him make a deal like that if they were thinking of getting rid of him.
Good summary. His wife is from MN too.I know a guy who was buddies with him at UofM and like 5-6 years ago said he told him that he wanted to sign here when his current deal ran out. I thought that was pretty preposterous at the time, that he would even be thinking about that then, but here we are and all you've heard for the last year or so is how he wants to come to MN and the Wild make moves like going after Pominville to potentially lure him here (obviously that's not the only reason they get Pominville, but little stuff like that).Went to college here, lives here in the offseason, works out with guys from the a Wild in the offseason and is close friends with Pominville. that would be ironicI wonder if Moulson would potentially re-sign with the Islanders.
Buffalo got Isles 2nd rd pick in '15 not '14 but ya they're really stock piling picks.Sabres now have 17 picks in rounds 1 and 2 for a 4-draft stretch from 2012 to 2015 drafts.
2012: 2 picks in the first (Grigorenko, Girgensons), 1 in the second (McCabe)
2013: 2 picks in the first (Ristolainen, Zadorov), 3 in the second (Compher, Hurley, Bailey)
2014: 2 picks in the first (Sabres, Islanders), 4 in the second (Sabres, Islanders, Wild, Kings)
2015: 1 pick in the first (Sabres), 2 in the second (Sabres, Kings)
I wonder if Moulson would potentially re-sign with the Islanders.
You going tomorrow????Isles have the most cap space in the league and are moving into a new arena - doubt resigning him will be an issue.
Don't need draft picks at this point - plenty of prospects on the cusp of the NHL - Strome, Lee, Reinhart, Pulock, etc . . .
Really excited to see how Vanek's passing game benefits JT !
Yeah I don't see why everyone would just assume Vanek is a rental. Isles have the most money, are moving to an arena a couple of miles from the greatest city in the world and have a ton of young talent (including a premier player in Tavares). Seems like an ideal location, situation and place in time for the Isles to make this deal.Isles have the most cap space in the league and are moving into a new arena - doubt resigning him will be an issue.

probably because an extension or the framework of one would be in place already. obviously still lots of time to get that done, but you would expect movement there for Snow to pull the trigger on that deal if it isn't a rental situation.Yeah I don't see why everyone would just assume Vanek is a rental. Time to smackdown the Rangers!!!
I'll be up top... 325
I'm not sure Vanek would want to play in NYC. He did sign an offer sheet with the Oilers at one point and seems to love Minnesota.Yeah I don't see why everyone would just assume Vanek is a rental. Backstrom didn't look nearly as good last night while Crawford played much much better. Good game for the Hawks.Bill Brasky said:![]()
oooof, what a sloppy mistake ridden game.
This deal has nudge nudge wink wink written all over itAaron Rudnicki said:I'm not sure Vanek would want to play in NYC. But I'm sure the Isles are hoping they can convince him to stick around with the idea of playing in Brooklyn with Tavares. They might have to offer him a ridiculous contract to beat out the $7MM/year or whatever he can probably get from the Wild. It's definitely a risky move to deal for him now as he has all the leverage and can decide where he wants to play next year.
What does this mean?Rob Scuderi out indefinitely with a broken ankle. Bad luck for the Pens blueliners going forward.
I've seen reports that they did keep 20% of his salary.lots of Sabres fans think he was not really giving full effort this year so it makes sense to deal him now rather than wait until the deadline and risk him getting injured. they didn't keep any of his salary either so they could take on some Miller money to facilitate a trade for him.
ok, I just saw that now.I've seen reports that they did keep 20% of his salary.lots of Sabres fans think he was not really giving full effort this year so it makes sense to deal him now rather than wait until the deadline and risk him getting injured. they didn't keep any of his salary either so they could take on some Miller money to facilitate a trade for him.
well, I assume the Sabres could still do something similar with Miller. In trading their top scorer to the New York Islanders, the Sabres agreed to pick up 19.5% of what's left of the $6.4 million Vanek is still owed in the final year of his contract, a person familiar with the deal confirmed to The Associated Press on Tuesday.
deal keeps getting better for Garth. next we'll find that Ryan Miller was actually included too.LeBrun just reported that if the Isles pick in the top 10 in next years draft they can keep the pick and give Buffalo their first rd pick in the 2015 draft.
2015 draft should be better though so I wouldn't mind this.deal keeps getting better for Garth. next we'll find that Ryan Miller was actually included too.LeBrun just reported that if the Isles pick in the top 10 in next years draft they can keep the pick and give Buffalo their first rd pick in the 2015 draft.
well, he's still more than willing to put money into the team as needed. I think they tried to patch the team into a contender quickly with some expensive signings (Ehrhoff, Leino) and trades (Regehr) but it didn't work. They realized that they couldn't buy a championship team and the current core (Vanek, Miller, Roy, Pominville, etc.) wasn't good enough to get them there. So, the only way to compete for a title was to bottom out and build through the draft. I think it's the right decision for the long-term success of the franchise. It's interesting in that you have a new hotshot owner who came in riding a white horse and saying all the things about building winner and he's a Miller trade away from stripping the team clean and starting over from scratch. I'm not sure that most Sabres fans were really ready for the wholesale nature of this rebuild.
Ok. I lived up to my part, Rangers just need to win 52 more games and then the Stanley Cup and you'll all be kissing my feet.Rangers to win 55 games and go on to win the Stanley Cup. You heard it here first.
Please refrain from ridicule until after they lose 7 of the first 10 games.
how so?A little cart before the horse action on the McDavid talk Rud
I just think 2 years out is a little early to project such a thing, not that I wouldnt love for him to go to Buffalo or Columbus for my own personal reason of having a huge man crush on him.how so?A little cart before the horse action on the McDavid talk Rud
other than Calgary who will probably not want to stay down for long, I'm not sure which other teams are more likely to be drafting at the top of the next two drafts. And McDavid seems like the only guy widely considered to be a likely franchise-changing pick along the lines of Tavares. Given the impression of him, I wouldn't be surprised if 2015 1st round picks will be considered more valuable than 2014 1st round picks.I just think 2 years out is a little early to project such a thing, not that I wouldnt love for him to go to Buffalo or Columbus for my own personal reason of having a huge man crush on him.how so?A little cart before the horse action on the McDavid talk Rud![]()
