***Official 2013/2014 NHL Regular Season Thread*** (2 Viewers)

got some clarification on the Blues/Sabres conditional pick(s):

If the Blues either re-sign Miller OR reach the Western Conference finals, Buffalo instead of getting that third-round pick, gets the Blues' first-round pick this June (they have the first-rounder in 2015 from this deal); but St. Louis would then get Minnesota's second-round pick this June (obtained earlier by the Sabres) plus Buffalo's third-round pick this June.

The thinking here for St. Louis is that while they would be giving up another first, it would be a pick between 27th and 30th overall, and they'd just be moving back 15 to 20 slots or so by getting the Wild's second-rounder plus getting an early third-rounder (from Buffalo).

So, under this scenario, the Blues would have three second-round picks overall this June plus two third-round picks.

That's if they reach the conference finals or re-sign Miller.

seems a bit better for the Blues. Those 2nd and 3rd round picks are decent.
I like you guys got Stewart and the picks but I think St. Louis got the better of this deal in Miller and Ott if they can resign them. NHL is so hit or miss drafting.........as a Canes fan. Miller is a stud. Maybe you guys are better drafting and it will turn out well.

Well, Miller wasn't going to re-sign in Buffalo and Ott still might. I'll take the picks and players over nothing.

I think the Sabres have generally drafted well and that's the way they are building this team now anyway.

Exactly. And make sure you guys flip Stewart before he scores a bunch of goals and gets himself a big fat contract extension. You don't want that.

I wish GM's in all league would understand one thing. And I am going to put this in Car Hur standards. You can give someone like Brindy as much money as you want and he will always be the same player, for 500k or 5 million. You can sign Semin to a 1 year 7million deal and that is okay. But when you sign Semin long term it is over. You get a different player and that is why the Caps let him go and we signed him long term. Cam Ward was never great to being with and you an say this for E Staal too (don't get me started on J. Staal). Cam had an okay playoff and great cup series. After that? What. I don't know the stats but I know he has very few shutouts for someone who started as much as him. He always chokes late in the third. ...........anyway distraught and ranting.

They just went to break in the Leafs/Habs game, and the NHL.com video feed stays with the CBC feed. The analyst says "Wow, horrible game so far".

:lmao:

Thank goodness for STL, glad the Wild didn't deal for an expensive rental they don't need.

Big win last night, Couver lucky to get a point after one if the worst no goal calls you'll see all season.
thoughts on the Halak to Wild rumors?
Good chance they make a move since Backstrom is still having ab issues from offseason surgery and Harding may never play again. But bring anyone who will cost something significant and/or be given starts is foolish IMO. This is Kuemper's net. Kid is good and has all the confidence in the world right now. Not giving him the keys because he's young is a mistake IMO. Sink or swim with him, the experience will only make him better.
I must have missed it but what happened with Harding? Did he have an episode?
I think Keumper has made like 18 straight starts now.

Harding hasn't skated in months.

That sucks, was really great seeing him play with MS. Such a ####ty disease.

I wonder if it would be illegal for the goalie to pile as much snow as possible to make it even harder for the puck to cross the line Hell it already makes instant replay almost impossible

I know it's sloppy hockey, but not having a horse in the race (Flyers), this is awesome hockey to watch just as a pure fan.

Meh, I don't like it coming down to a lucky bounce. Watching the replay with Keith puck "handling" was ridiculous.

Forgot this game was tonight...I gotta say props to NBC over any other major network because they stream their games online in HD (at least for NHL and NFL) for FREE. Maybe not the sunday noon NHL games, but either way, far better than ESPN, etc

Pretty slick goal by Toews
Aren't you there? Or was that Wrigley? And yes that was a good goal by Toews, was a bit concerned we would hear the dreaded intent to blow the whistle. First time in a while the Hawks have been up for a game. No Hossa is a concern, hopefully it's very short term or Morin will likely get the call.

Not really in the rumor mill category but the word is that Kane has told Hawks mgmt that he would be eternally grateful if they could get Kesler. Not sure how I feel about that, don't think it would ever happen but Kesler must have left some kind of impression on Kane.

he'd be an awesome get for them, but (a) what would they have to give up? and (b) seems unlikely the Canucks would trade him to Chicago.

I mean if someone like Patrick Sharp was going the other way, not sure it's worth it.

Price to get Kesler is high. 1. Significant/established NHLer, preferably a C, 20 to 25; 2. Top prospect, preferably a F. 3. 1st rd pick.

Luke Gazdic is one tough SOB. He tuned in Clayton Stoner of the Wild the other night and just turned out Westgarth's lights tonight.

Westgarth hung in there and then Luke knocked out his mouthguard and him. The linesman was immediately calling from help from the Flames' bench when Westgarth hit the ice.

Gazdic has to be the toughest guy, that can a play a regular shift, the Oilers have had since Laraque. And yes, as sad as it is, this gets fans excited in Edmonton.

I agree 100% it would be damn near impossible to get him. I doubt the Hawks give up a C which is their weakest Offensive position and really the only prospect worth much that may be NHL ready in a year or two is Teravainenen and another #1 no way do the Hawks sniff getting Kesler.

Seems like a crazy price for Kesler to me. I bet the price gets dropped for an Eastern Conference team. Supposedly Pittsburgh is very interested.

Penguins have supposedly been offering up Sutter and a D prospect. If they throw in a pick, wonder if that gets it done.

would be weird if the Penguins traded Staal for Sutter, and then flipped him for Kesler.

I think it winds up exactly like Luongo last year. The Canucks are listening but want way the hell too much.

I know the Sabres are bad, but that's by design. Flames actually look better than expected most nights too.

When I watch the Oilers though, I'm usually just disgusted by what I see. All that talent and they just seem lost most nights.

I've heard Canucks were hot and heavy after Sutter before he was traded to Pittsburgh. So, I could see this deal getting done if Pittsburgh kicks in a 2nd round pick.

I think it ends up more like Schneider. The Canucks want a huge price from Western Conference teams and have a more reasonable asking price from Eastern Conference teams.

I read that was before LeTangs stroke, it's been said they have backed off of Kesler with the uncertainty surrounding LeTangs return.eta: Nevermind, reading my nhl timeline seems it's back on.

Schneider only happened since moving Luongo was impossible based on what they were asking.
