Aaron Ward says Oilers sign Ben Scrivens to a two year deal at just over 2 mil per year.

It doesn't make him the #1 guy next season, but probably makes him part of a tandem.

Hell if you're the Oilers why wouldn't you give him a shot at being the #1 guy right now? He's young-ish, playing fantastically, and the Oilers have no one else worth a damn. He's perfect for them imo. I wouldn't spend any money to find a tandem partner unless he's just like Scrivens, young-ish with upside, and it's probably counter-productive to have 2 goalies like that.

Toronto seemed to have good success with a terrible team playing in front of two good young goalies.

I suppose, though with all the talk that situation gets it doesn't seem like it's something that can last peacefully for very long; not that the Oilers need to rush to have their long term goaltending solution in place for next season.

I'm sure he'll get a shot to be the #1 guy, but the salary and the length of the deal suggests it is a "prove it" deal. Think the Oilers have to sign another young goalie with starter potential because they can't put all their eggs in the Scrivens' basket.

there's always decent goalie options available. Oilers should be stockpiling them right now IMO and hope that someone emerges. No need to pay big money to some proven veteran when the rest of the team is still figuring things out.

He deserves something but with the rematch set for Wednesday I kind of hope he doesn't. :boxing:
Well if the NHL doesn't suspend him Oates should for being a complete idiot.
Yea stupid, selfish play that cost your boys a point and helped us out a lot in the standings.
I don't see the Caps as any threat to make the playoffs to be honest.Just aren't good enough and lack discipline and it showed in the 3rd yesterday.
As opposed to all of the stupid penalties teh Flyers took?

Fact is that aside from a couple teams at the top, the East is filled with some very flawed teams.Somebody has to go to the playoffs.

It's a good thing the Flyers listen to the coach and really try to stay out of the box, huh? Berube has turned them around from the disaster at the start of the season, but I'm not sure I'm a fan of his. He talks about accountability and the only one that ever gets benched is Gus, while Downie, Hartnell etc continue making dumb plays and taking penalties. Our defense is slower than mud but he refuses to play Gus while Grossmann has been brutal, as have most of the D. Add the fact that Vinny has no business on the wing. But that's not entirely Chief's fault, but poor construction of the roster by Homer. But I'm sure he'll add a couple more centers by Wednesday.

Left his feet and followed through with the forearm/elbow.

One thing he has going for him is that there was no serious injury.

Does he have "a record"?
2 games for Dmitry. :sadbanana: There's always Tom Wilson to get after on Wednesday.

5 in a row and a nice cushion on the wild card spot. wasn't pretty last night but the Wild are rolling along right now.

Granlund with 12 points in last 10. looks better and better every game. I've been wanting to see him tried with Parise for two seasons. Koivu injury finally forces their hand to try it and Parise/Granlund/Pominville has been fantastic.

I was at this game and it seemed the puck was bouncing a lot.

Lebrun is reporting that Callahan has moved off his 7 year demands, but is still at $6.5MM per. Rangers don't want to go above $6MM. I think that's still $500K too high and a year too long.
As much as I like what Callahan brings to the table, no way i'd go over $6 mil a year for 5 years. Even that is a stretch. Rather $5 mil for four years.

tom, sounds like Kuz is headed to DC? What does this mean? What's his contract situation? Can he play soon?

I think he's widely considered the best player outside the NHL, but it sounds like he had injury issues this year. if healthy, I think it's a given he can play soon.

I think his contract with the KHL ends this year, so not sure what his plans are for next year but I assume the Caps will try to sell him on staying.

yeah, all over the place. sloppy.

if that player is Martin Brodeur and is being traded for a 7th round pick or something, I could see him asking for one last home start before he moves on. Pretty likely the player controls a lot more in this particular trade situation than a typical one.

Agreed, Brodeur is gonna bring next to nothing back in trade, would be insanely dooshy to not give him one last ceremonial start, assuming such is the case.

Then you say 'Oh well, we lost out on acquiring a 6th round pick where we'd draft a player who had a 95% chance of never touching NHL ice anyway' and move on.

Okay, that what NJ says but what do the Wild get out of it? They were obviously looking for Brodeaur to be a backup.

Sens put Corvo and Conacher on waivers, I thought Conacher had a great start to his season, but don't get to watch Sens games. He fell off that much?

Well they aren't exactly in the position of power here, they're unlikely to find any other backup goalie for this cheap, yet alone one with Brodeur's (playoff) experience. So if the Devils tell the Wild to wait a day, the Wild say "No problem".

then they find somebody else? not like a 42yo with a .900 SV% is going to make or break their season.

"The deal is pending the approval of Brodeur, who has a no-trade clause in his contract, and, according to the source, wanted one last home game with Devils," Clayton wrote. "The source said Brodeur and Devils president and GM Lou Lamoriello met last week where they discussed teams Brodeur would and would not accept as a landing spot."

"Ouch."

That Bishop trade sure worked out great for Yzerman and the Lightning. Sabres should probably claim him.

Why wouldn't he want to be here? He can be closer to his two boys

I don't know if any of this is true, but you don't think it's possible he might want one more start on the team he played his entire career for before moving on?

Pretty sure he just wants to play. Injuries probably are not a big concern given his obvious durability.

What does it cost to claim one of these guys? Corvo is serviceable and Conacher is young enough to still turn his career around.

Fasth to Oilers done also

Now the Oilers need to drop the hammer and trade for a good solid Dman or 2.

Fasth cost a 2014 5th and a 2015 3rd
