Thoughts?

Span had to go in order to rebuild the pitching in the system, but I was surprised they traded Revere and pleasantly at that when I saw the return. They've now added three quality arms (including one that's already MLB ready) and it's my hope they're not done yet. Trade Morneau and Willingham, rebuild for the future.

Most are in agreement the best time to trade Morneau is when (if) he gets closer to his All-Star form. If the Twins get a truly terrific offer they have to take it but I just don't see other teams offering enough to tempt the team to make such a move.

I'm curious about how much of a chance A.Hicks will get to make the Opening Day roster. It seems like we've been waiting for him to show off his 1st Round talent for years now and the word is that he's turned the proverbial corner with his recent play. Mastrioni (however it's spelled) will certainly factor in the outfield makeup no matter who sticks and can man CF reasonably well when called upon.

Trading Willingham makes a ton of sense as his value has never been higher...but I really enjoy watching him hit! I know that my favorite team needs a helluva lot more help than a 33 year old outfielder who likely just had a career year but it's been so long since the Twins have had an impact bat like his. Additionally, I can't believe the guy's forearms. I bet when he wraps them around you it feels like the safest place on Earth...but I digress.

It's crazy how the Internet has allowed the rubes to keep track of the minor league talent available to the teams. It really adds to the way that fans can follow a team year round and have some hope based on actual information for seasons to come.

If anyone is now questioning my manliness you should know that I'm replacing all the electric in my house myself. 220? 221? Whatever it takes.

According to multiple reports, the Twins have agreed to terms with righthander Kevin Correia on a two-year contract worth about $10 million.

Correia, 32, was 12-11 with a 4.21 ERA last season with the Pirates. For his career, he's 60-65 with a 4.54 ERA. He's a command and control pitcher, striking out just 4.7 batters per nine innings last season.

YOU KNOW, IT SEEMS LIKE THE CORREIA PICKUP IS JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER TWINS PICKUP. THEY SIGNED A GUY THAT CAN THROW STRIKES BUT REALLY DOESN'T STRIKE FOLKS OUT VERY OFTEN IN HIS CAREER. HOPEFULLY HE CAN PITCH WELL, BUT I THINK HIS UPSIDE IS THE 4TH/5TH STARTER IN THE ROTATION.

Correia is terrible. He's another National League version of Nick Blackburn, just like Jason Marquis last year. And they signed him for 2 years. Gross.

MY BELIEF IS THAT THEY KNOW THEY WON'T CONTEND FOR ANOTHER 2 YEARS (IT'S A SIGN FROM THE UPPER MGMT WITHOUT THEM REALLY SAYING IT) THAT IT'S NOT GOING TO BE VERY COMPETITIVE FOR THE NEXT 2 YEARS. IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT, THAT ACTUALLY MAKES SOME SENSE.

MIGUEL SANO'S EXPECTED TO BE ENTERING THE FRAY IN 2014 (2 YEARS AWAY)

OSWALDO ARCIA IS EXPECTED TO BE AN OUTFIELDER AROUND THAT SAME TIME

DITTO AARON HICKS FOR AROUND 2014 IN THE OUTFIELD

NEWLY ACQUIRED ALEX MEYER, DITTO 2014

KYLE GIBSON SHOULD HAVE HIS FEET WET BY THEN

BUXTON WILL BE A YEAR OR TWO AWAY AND WILL START GETTING LATE CALL UPS (KID'S GOING TO BE GREAT)

IT JUST SUCKS AS FANS THAT FOR THE NEXT YEAR OR TWO, WE'LL HAVE TO BASICALLY WAIT IT OUT.

The Twins remain in the hunt for more starting pitching rummors are they are looking at Joe Saunders and John Lannan and righthander Brett Myers. I guess if you sign enough pitchers you find a few decent ones.

The Twins reached agreement with free-agent righthander Mike Pelfrey on Sunday, according to a source familiar with the negotiations. The deal won't be finalized until he passes a physical.

According to Internet reports, Pelfrey will receive $4 million in 2013 with the chance of earning another $1.5 million in incentives.

Pelfrey started three games last season for the New York Mets before being lost for the year due to a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow, which required Tommy John reconstructive surgery. He has indicated that he should be ready to go for the start of the 2013 season, but nothing will be known for sure until he makes it through spring training.

Pelfrey, 28, is a 2005 first-round pick by the Mets who went 50-54 in seven seasons. His best year came in 2010, when he went 15-9 with a 3.66 ERA, pitching 204 innings. He slumped to 7-13 with a 4.74 ERA in 2011.

Twins General Manager Terry Ryan was not available for comment Sunday. The Twins normally don't announce free-agent signings until the player passes a physical.

If the Twins do sign Pelfrey, he would join Scott Diamond, Vance Worley and Kevin Correia in the projected 2013 rotation. The Twins, however, might continue to look at pitching options for the remainder of the offseason.

Better signing than Correia, that's for sure.

The Twins, Rockies and Reds are among the teams that have checked in on free agent right-hander Freddy Garcia, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports
Why? They're obviously punting this year to rebuild (which is what they pretty much have to do) so in that case Garcia is meaningless and horrible. If someone's going to suck, I'd rather have it be Hendriks or Deduno or one of those dorks who at least has a chance, however small, to be part of this team when they try to contend again.

A source with knowledge of negotiations on Wednesday confirmed that the Twins remain interested in lefthander Joe Saunders. The Twins offered a contract to Saunders in recent weeks.

Twins General Manager Terry Ryan would not comment on free agent signings on Wednesday.

Saunders, 31, was 9-13 with a 4.07 ERA last season in stints with Arizona and Baltimore. He was 3-3, 3.63 for the Orioles as he assisted in their playoff push, then posted a 1.59 ERA in two postseason starts.

Rich Harden now on Twins radar

La Velle E. Neal III Updated: December 20, 2012 - 3:47 PM

The Twins have been in contact today with the agent for righthander Rich Harden, according to multiple sources.

Harden, who has been hampered by injuries in recent years, is attempting a comeback after a year away. He would likely sign a minor league deal and be invited to major league spring training. It's not clear if he's attempting to come back as a starter or a reliever.

Stay tuned. This one is heating up pretty quickly.

I actually like this, depending on cost. I always liked Harden.

Worth a shot if it's a minor league deal. If he's getting more than a milli, tell him to go ####. Incentives are cool, but don't be "the twins".

I was hoping Oakland would give him a minimum offer. I love Harden like...well, like the Twins apparently love mediocre pitchers.

Righthander Rich Harden, a strikeout machine when he has been healthy, signed a minor league contract with the Twins with an invitation to spring training. Harden, 31, missed all of last season while recovering from January surgery to tighten his shoulder capsule.

Like the signing, high reward, low risk.

The Twinns will invite the following nonroster players to spring training: Righthanders Bryan Augenstein, Nick Blackburn, Deolis Guerra, Alex Meyer, Lester Oliveros and Anthony Slama; outfielders Brandon Boggs and Clete Thomas; infielders Jeff Clement, Chris Colabello, Ray Olmedo and Mark Sobolewski; and catchers Kyle Knudson, Danny Lehmann and Dan Rohlfing.

Nick Blackburn????????????????????????????

But the other news is that lefthander Scott Diamond, the Twins' most effective starter last season, was in New York on Tuesday to have a bone chip removed from his left elbow. The procedure is a simple one but still raises an eyebrow.

Hope the big D is ok

Go to a Twins game in 2013 if: You want to enjoy the atmosphere of outdoor baseball good food some beers don't go if you plan on the Twins putting a good product on the field this year it's as simple as this. Were building for 2015

I hate to feel like its over before it starts but this just doesnt feel like a team constructed to compete. Its been constructed to get through the year. Another two high picks (2013 and in 2014), some expiring deals, and some time to let the new prospects grow and be ready by 2015. It feels much like how Chuck Fletcher started the Wild re-build. Hope to god that Correia, Pelfrey, Worley pitch enough innings to not let the bottom fall out. Or that they dont resemble Marquis from last year.

So your saying there's a chance. :excited:

Might Worley be good? I say over 64 wins here, Royals or Indians are going to bleed out.
I'm actually going to throw a decent amount of cash down on the over 64 when it's available. I'm not sure why, but I am. The team historically seems to perform at its best when there are no expectations, and right now there are no expectations.

Who do you guys hate more, the White Sox or the Tigers?White Sox and not even close, right? Tigers are annoying because they win all the time and spend as much as the Twins + Royals, but we're really just kind of jealous of them and wish we were all Justin Verlander, right? And then you got the White Sox who are all cockfaces.

Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony admits the Twins have made mistakes in their attempts to find middle infielders, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune writes. Antony laments the trade of J.J. Hardy to the Orioles and describes Alexi Casilla's tenure with the Twins as "so frustrating." Antony also says the Twins "failed" with Tsuyoshi Nishioka. Shortstop Pedro Florimon and second baseman Brian Dozier are next in line to try to stabilize the Twins' middle infield. If Florimon wins the job, he will be the Twins' eighth 2013 Opening Day shortstop in eight years. Minnesota's Opening Day second baseman will be its sixth in seven years.

Correia pitched two innings Saturday, giving up a run on two hits and a sacrifice fly. Four of the six outs he got were on ground balls. It's early, but this is postive news about Correia.

Brandon Boggs belted a three-run home run today against TB, maybe he is our new CF.
:thumbup:30 yo with a 209/315/380 triple slash!
Non-roster outfielders are already at a slight advantage, I think, because of the lack of clarity of what will be happening in the Major League outfield based on who's available off the 40-man. As of today, I'm sure that Josh Willingham, Darin Mastroianni, and Chris Parmelee would the the starters going left to right. But that only leaves Aaron Hicks, Joe Benson, and Oswaldo Arcia available. One of those three could make the trip north, but maybe none of them will.In the minors, Boggs has actually put in more time in center than in either of the corners. But in limited Major League time (130 games between 2008 and 2011; 101 of them were in '08) he's been mostly used as a left fielder. But we run into issues. Boggs isn't the quickest player and doesn't cover the ground necessary to be even a backup center fielder on a Major League team. Of a larger concern is his track record as a hitter, when he's more likely to roll over to second base than anything else. His MLB line is laughable, but even looking at his minor league line it's clear that he poses zero threat offensively, whether that's with his bat or with his legs. The good news is that there are three other non-roster invitee outfielders for us to get through, and they all look at least a bit better than Boggs.
