Instead of running a 4 - 3 Emery will play to their strength and run a 2 - 5.
First thing I thought, who are the 2?Instead of running a 4 - 3 Emery will play to their strength and run a 2 - 5.
deep in wr/dline. loaded draft, about 10 more top level prospects than last yearI really don't know much about the upcoming draft class as in previous years. I watched very little college football this year.
Wow. I mean I get it, he doesn't really contribute anymore. I'll never forget some of his great moments, especially the Super Bowl.https://twitter.com/SportsCenter/status/441415686061977600
THIS JUST IN: Bears to release PR/KR Devin Hester. Hester is tied for NFL record with 19 return TD. (via @NFLNetwork)
I agree, but would have been unfair on Devin to take a 1 year deal. Go get yourself a 4 year deal somewhereGlad to see Jeremiah back, sad to see Hester go. I wanted 1 more year out of Devin.
I'm right there with you, I really wish he could have got one of those other two chances for a TD this year to just completely break the returns record with the bears. I think one was called back with holding, and on the other he couldn't get in because some idiot was celebrating the TD instead of blocking someone.Wow. I want to say that doofus Conte was the holding penalty on the record breaker. I do remember it not being near the run and totally unnecessary.Eta: My bad...it was the other doofus Steltz.I'm right there with you, I really wish he could have got one of those other two chances for a TD this year to just completely break the returns record with the bears. I think one was called back with holding, and on the other he couldn't get in because some idiot was celebrating the TD instead of blocking someone.I don't really have many memories of the 80's bears teams because I was pretty young then, so yeah, that Super Bowl opening TD was one of my most memorable football moments.Wow. The vet minimum or close to it is too expensive? Hester said he wasn't even contacted about re-signing and the team made it obvious they had no plans to have him back. It's ####ty and a big mistake ushering these guys out. Emery is a pos. Screw him and his crappy defensive drafting. He's a defensive idiot. Seattle and San Francisco showed how important defense was this year. We have one of the worst and it's not getting much better this year if we lose Peppers and Tillman, and possibly Melton.I'll be honest, I think Hester would be too expensive to keep, so I'm ok with not re-signing him. They need to hit the D hard in FA and the draft and they'll need money to do it.
I'll miss him though.
you lost me at Hester being a leader.Mistake not keeping Hester. The new regime doesn't seem to understand the importance of leadership. It showed last year on D. They seem set on getting all of the old players out at once. If Peppers is released and Tillman isn't re-signed, it will be even worse. You need veteran leaders.
We're bound to take another step back on ST. Hester isn't what he once was but he still led the league in return yards last year and he's a leader in the locker room. I think this hurts the team. I can't believe fans are okay with losing Urlacher and Hester, and potentially Tillman and Peppers in a 2 year span. The D suffered last year, and will suffer even more if they lose 2 more starting players. ST will be worse. I don't like it. You can't just cut every aging player and plug someone in their spot without skipping a beat.
bumpYou're lost as a Bears fan![]()
I appreciate you adding me onto the end of that list. That means a lot.Bears D lost more games due to injury than any team in the NFL last year. They were playing with more than half of their D being 2nd and 3rd stringers, as well as guys off the street, for the majority of the year.
There is obviously going to be a significant overhaul.
And while the Emery drafted defensive players don't look promising, no one has any clue what that D is going to look like this year based on what they saw last year.
That includes Trestman, Emory, Mel Tucker and even flapgreen.
To say he's doing the wrong thing by letting the likes of Hester (31), Urlacher (35), Peppers (34) and Tillman (33) go, because of the prices they'll command, is just ridiculous, blind fandom.
This is a young man's game and you don't invest cap dollars into fossils. It's time to move on.
Williams, Anderson, Bostic and Greene didn't do it for you last year? Everyone said we couldn't get worse....You can't just cut every aging player and plug someone in their spot without skipping a beat.
So you would just bring back anyone to keep team chemistry going? Polamalu/Miller can still play, that's why they brought them back. They let Wallace walk because it wasn't financially feasible for their team. That's the difference. Hester accounts for only a couple of plays a game. With the new kickoff rules/punting high/punting out of bounds...it's a different game. He doesn't play offense anymore or defense or isn't good on any other coverage unit. Is a couple of plays a game worth millions? Urlacher couldn't play anymore...if he could, someone would've made him an offer. What these guys did in 2008 doesn't matter in 2013/14...it's a business.Steelers just locked up Polamalu and Miller. Two organizations, the Steelers and the Bears. One has an unmatched record of success, the other is the Bears.
I don't see how anyone could argue with this.Bears D lost more games due to injury than any team in the NFL last year. They were playing with more than half of their D being 2nd and 3rd stringers, as well as guys off the street, for the majority of the year.

Hester only affects a couple of plays a game now?tdmills said:So you would just bring back anyone to keep team chemistry going? Polamalu/Miller can still play, that's why they brought them back. Probably bothmsommer said:Who's bright idea was it to give Hester WR snaps (and millions) anyway, Angelo or Lovie?
Really hoping for one of these guys. Think I prefer Johnson. No way to gage how serious but reported the Bears contacted teams for Michael Bennett and Michael Johnson.
Hester led league in return yards. How can you argue with that?SeveredHorseHeads said:I don't see how anyone could argue with this.Bears D lost more games due to injury than any team in the NFL last year. Defense gave him a ton of opportunities in kickoff returns.Hester led league in return yards. I'm guessing they will be too expensive. They're likely the top remaining free agent DEs.Really hoping for one of these guys. Think I prefer Johnson. No way to gage how serious but reported the Bears contacted teams for Michael Bennett and Michael Johnson.
He was nothing of the sort.He was 2nd in avg on kickoff returns and 1st on punt returns
Devin Hester was 5th in kickoff return average, not 2nd and he didn't even qualify(ESPN's cutoff appears to be 20) for punt returns due to only 18 on the season. He only makes a difference whenever he returns a kickoff, with the new rule it makes kickoff returning near obsolete.Defensive opportunities had nothing to do with it. He was 2nd in avg on kickoff returns and 1st on punt returns, not to mention how he affects every kickoff and punt return with his presence alone. If I'm not mistaken, the Bears led the league again in starting field position. You really think TDs is the only way he affects games? He gives us the best starting field position in the league every year. The proof is right there.
Who's saying he wants millions? It sounds like he just wanted to play for the Bears. Not sure where that's coming from, probably the same place that said Urlacher would be playing somewhere if he got an offer. No one knows if he got an offer from another team or just didn't want to play for someone other than the Bears. Hester was never contacted by the Bears. He said it himself.![]()
