:::::::::::::/"\US is not going to win.ah- ok. I don't follow betting, so it's just news talking heads and in here for me.and maybe "insane" is an overstatement... Portugal is as ripe as they possibly could be for an upset given the missing players. I don't dislike the US's chances- certainly capable of getting this done (and I've been telling anybody I meet that the US is capable of beating any team in this WC... if the wind blows the right way). But it would definitely be an upset to get points here.not the oddsmakers. usa +381 for the winbtw... it's INSANE to me that after 1+ rounds, all of a sudden everybody's assuming we get a result against Portugal.
I love that this WC is inpiring that kind of confidence, but :insane:

Are you sure you're not using that colloquialism wrong? The picture kinda says something different...Dressing up like an absolute jackass in Stars and bars with a group of folks and about to post up at the soccer-Hub of Memphis (Irish pub in midtown). Getting there at open-ish (11:30) for any chance of a table for the US match at 5pm. The corner its on will be a block party by 2pm and bedlam by first kick.
Can't ####### wait.![]()
US 2-1
Yes I am... I'm aware it's not the confederate flag. Have heard it used in reference to current flag as well but apparently incorrectly. I always thought bookies give #### all about who's playing and just set odds to get money coming in from both sides.Nate Silver has it:
US win: 35%
Portugal win: 36%
Draw: 29%
Oddsmakers have dramatically overrated Europe in this tournament so far. I think Silver is onto something with his "home continent" adjustment.
Or maybe the World Cup just brings out so much dumb money that they're setting the odds based on brand name rather than worrying about the most likely results.

Vegas does that, but someone who seemed like they knew what they were talking about said it was done differently elsewhere in the world. No idea if that's true though, so maybe I have it completely wrong.I always thought bookies give #### all about who's playing and just set odds to get money coming in from both sides.Nate Silver has it:

Colombia, dammit.Aside from the USA and Portugal I'm pulling for Argentina, France, Holland, Germany, Brazil and Columbia
“There is a lot of admiration for Cristiano,” Klinsmann said. “But this is now the moment you can prove yourself. This is the moment where you can step up and play those guys and put them in place. We want to put Cristiano and his team in place.”
“We’ve been looking forward to this moment for quite a while,” he said. “We want to take our game to Portugal. We are full of energy. We are very impatient. We want to get this started.”
The weather outlook in this remote city of more than 1 million nestled in the Amazon region calls for an evening game-time temperature near 80, high humidity and a chance of rain.

France down? Most impressive team so far, over 2 games?
You could make make an argument for Mexico. They had two legitimate goals disallowed against Brazil and ought to be sitting on top of that group. Argentina has looked rather unimpressive save for Messi's brilliance; but Messi will be around. Germany looked unstoppable in their first game, but not quite the overwhelming force in that second exciting game; but they'll obviously be in the hunt.
Brazil has looked pedestrian at times; but they are the home team. Uruguay with Suarez is a different team. The Netherlands was dominant in their first game; not so much in the second. Chile, Colombia and Costa Rica have looked good. Belgium has only played one game.

eta: and Giuseppe ####### Rossi
eta2: cat and 2yo woke me up at 4:45. I hate everything right now.
He is a miserable guy in general. He never has a good word for anyone.Just a side note, but I am getting a little annoyed at all of Bruce Arena's snide comments about the team and the USMNT program in general.
I have always thought Arena, like Donovan, was a key player in getting the US to this point, but he needs to let go of the fact that he does not rule the roost anymore.
What did he say now?Just a side note, but I am getting a little annoyed at all of Bruce Arena's snide comments about the team and the USMNT program in general.

Should have thought of that myself....Oops! Something went wrong!I'm going to have to pace my Likes here. At this rate I'm gonna be out by kickoff.
Maybe the reason Klinsmann wanted young legs on the bench.Someone made a good comment on Big Soccer. If Wondo starts today instead of Bacon, the age of the US team is pretty high for a WC game
Howard age 36
Johnson 26
Cameron 28
Besler 27
Beasley 32
Bedloya 27
Bradley 26
Beckerman 32
Jones 32
Dempsey 31
Wondo 31
6 players over 30 is not common for a starting lineup.

Belgium?A lot of people's sexy pic to make some noise this tournament--mine included--just isn't putting it all together.
I wouldn't say that, he has made some decent runs, but nobody is passing him the ball.Belgium?A lot of people's sexy pic to make some noise this tournament--mine included--just isn't putting it all together.
Need to get Lukaku out of there - he's just not ready
