This is pretty much the sign of the apocolypse coming right? ;)

The Houston Astros are still in their rebuilding period, so a decent crowd has been tough to come by in recent years. Houston is 25th in the league in attendance and averages just short of 23,000 per game and only the Rays have a worse record in the American League. Some folks do think the light at the end of the tunnel is growing brighter, but it's still at the end of the tunnel. So, when folks are not quite interested in what you've got going on, sweeten the deal with dirt cheap hot dogs and...soccer?

OK, pretty cool. The Astros are opening the gates to Minute Maid Park early tomorrow to let people come in and watch the USMNT take on Germany before the Astros game against the Braves. The only catch is, you've got to have a ticket to the baseball game to get in for the soccer match. Which means if you weren't already going to the game, and want to watch USMNT in a pretty cool venue and share in a potentially awesome experience with a bunch of other people, you have to buy a ticket to the Astros game. Or else.

It's a good idea—capitalizing on the crazy-popular run the American team is on right now just makes sense—but it also means that soccer is being used to sell baseball tickets.
I wonder if they'll care if a bunch of people leave after the game and forego the baseball.

I thought about taking my JK permission slip to work, but ultimately, I don't want to make a big deal out of the game being on today. The less my boss knows about what's on the screen in my office this afternoon, the better.

As unbelievable as these things may sound, here are bits of credible info picked up from Brazil.

1. Kwesi Appiah was involved in an altercation with Kevin Prince Boateng yesterday after Appiah thought that a comment Boateng made to Sulley Muntari was aimed at him. According to reports, Appiah swore at Boateng, who questioned why the head coach was shouting at him in front of every body.

2. Appiah later on broke down in tears when the Black Stars entourage was having dinner and he had to be escorted out of the dining area by Prof. Kwame Mintah.

3. According to deputy Sports Minister, Joseph Yamin, the players’ insistence on receiving their appearance fees in cash has led to the money being kept in a bullion truck at the Kotoka International Airport, awaiting clearance before a jet would transport the money to the boys in Brazil.

4. Players are now threatening not to train until they are paid.

5. Kevin Prince Boateng might be thrown out of camp but the matter is still being discussed.
Ghana midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has confirmed to Sport Blid that he has left Ghana's World Cup camp amid reports of him and Sulley Muntari having a disagreement with coach Kwesi Appiah.

The Black Stars are to face Portugal on Thursday in a decisive Group G clash that could still see the African side qualify for the round of 16.

However, they will be without Boateng and possibly Muntari after Ghana reportedly made the decision to sack the pair on the morning of the game.

According to Sport Bild, the duo are said to have clashed earlier on in the week, with Boateng reportedly insulting Appiah when asked about the incident.

"Yes, I am leaving. I am no longer part of the team," Boateng is quoted as saying by Bild.

Boateng was surprisingly dropped by Appiah for the Black Stars' first World Cup game against United States, with the Schalke player questioning his coach's tactics after the match.

The double-sacking piles extra pressure on Ghana ahead of the Portugal clash following an earlier disagreement over World Cup appearance fees.

The nation's president had to intervene to reassure agitated players that they will be paid their bonuses.

Ghana's government has sent more than $3 million in cash by plane to Brazil to pay the appearance fees owed to the national team at the World Cup.

"I BELIEVE THAT THEY WILL LEAVE"

First time I wish I lived in Houston since I left 19 years Ago.

So Ghana is going to capitulate here? Portugal is going to make up ground quickly... :sadbanana:
:lmao: You guys overreact to everything. Yesterday everyone was worried that Portugal was going to give up and let Ghana win big. Today people are worried Ghana's going to roll over.
So good. Boateng has played like #### the last 3 years(and in this tourney) Muntari was already suspended for this game.

Sorry if this has been covered, but I figure this is easier than scrolling through 251 pages....

Is there an app where I can stream today's game live?

Saw a tweet that it us down pouring at the stadium. Streets flooded, etc.
Does this act as an equalizer or do nothing other than make the conditions more difficult?
Sounds like it could make a draw more likely, no? If the field conditions are bad, I can't see either team try to go all out and risk an injury.

So I assume Kevin Prince-Boateng is going to retire a second time? Dude's gonna be the Brett Favre of international soccer, except with cash demands instead of **** pic texts.

ETA - typos

Adidas executives held an emergency meeting in Rio de Janeiro Wednesday to discuss the fate of Uruguayan soccer star Luis Suarez after images of him apparently biting an Italian defender were beamed to millions of fans watching the FIFA World Cup 2014 tournament.

An Adidas spokesperson told media outlets that the German company would await FIFA’s full investigation into the incident until responding, but the brand had warned Suarez last year he could lose his sponsorship after he was suspended for 10 games for biting a player while playing for Chelsea in the English Premier League. The World Cup incident marks at least the third time Suarez has been charged with biting an opposing player.

Taking a late lunch hour to go watch the 2nd half. I sent my boss the JK slip for grins.

All Day I Dream About Suarez

ADIDAS just trying to grab some publicity imo.

As mentioned above...

A little over four hours before kickoff in the World Cup game between the United States and Germany, an enormous rainstorm hit Recife, Brazil. Humidity was to be expected, but this is something else. Hellacious rain in Recife. Odds on 0-0 draw rising quicker than flood waters. #usmnt — Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) June 26, 2014

New ad should pair him with Adidas mainstays Run DMC.

Luis Luis, why you buggin'?

Last-minute odds from 538 and Oddschecker (538 listed first):

Germany win: 63% -- 57%

Draw: 22% -- 32%

USA win: 15% -- 11%

USA to advance 75.9% -- 78.7%

So oddsmakers have been forced to cut the odds on a draw -- probably a lot of money coming in on the result that helps both teams. And both sets have the US between 75-80% to go through.
