Another goal by either Ghana or Germany and we'd be out. Not sure why Darke saying it was good for us. It was horrible for Ghana to score.
a draw puts us through
Yea, which was his point, but it was short-sighted. As it was (Portugal up 1-0) we were 2-3 goals away from getting knocked out. Now we're just 1 goal away from getting knocked out.

Muuuuuch better at Portugal 1-0 than that game being 1-1.
true, a 1-0 portugal win is good but a 1-1 draw isnt bad.
Which would be great if the game was over, but it's not. 1-0 Portugal win and 1-1 draw are both equally good for us (unless we lose 5-0). But a 1-1 draw is MUCH closer to a scenario that knocks us out and requires only 1 Ghana goal to do so.

No... a tie in the other game and we're through.
Uh, that's what I said. Another goal by Ghana and they're up 2-1, which is not a tie. Similarly, another goal by Germany, and it's not a tie.

If we were to level or Portugal level, then it renders what I said not consequential.
Technically though, you did say a goal by EITHER Germany or Ghana.

A goal by Ghana, all else being equal, knocks the US out.

A goal by Germany, all else being equal, does not knock the US out.
Yes, sorry. My bad.

So basically another goal for Germany is meaningless here, right? Either way we'd advance with a single goal or a tie in the other game.
Right a Germany goal to 2-0 doesn't hurt us as long as Ghana/Portugal stay 1-1 or Portugal goes up 2-1.
Basically the only thing that can hurt us is another Ghana goal. So weird.
Nice summary:

The best part was how the announcers didn't know it was a goal for like 30 seconds because Ronaldo gave zero ####s.

Nani cross from the left takes an awkward bounce. Ghana GK on the goalline taps pushes it awkwardly to the penalty spot, where Ronaldo is standing unmarked. First time shot with the left, lower right corner.

As Gator would say....Boom.
