CFB might produce them, but it's the fans I love. Between the excitement of the fans "getting" the new coach and the despair of the fans "losing" the existing coach, it's comedy gold. I've never seen a fanbase like this Alabama fan base...pure awesome.

Really at this point the only thing anyone has is a few random flights in and out of some airports that Saban may or may not have been on for scheduled recruiting visits.
Chip Brown is eerily silent on the matter.

I get most of my entertainment out of Facebook. If that's not enough, I go to listen to resident Alabama honk Fenebaum for about 15 minutes in sat radio. I can't imagine trying to go to any Alabama boards these days.

I expected Fickell's stock, which wasn't that high, to drop with all the defensive breakdowns the Buckeyes had this year.
I didn't think he wowed anyone when he was the interim either

Given the lack of openings I thought he'd be around one more year, but I'd be lying if I never said in the back of my head 'oh ####' after beating Northern Illinois.
Good luck, Clawson. Good spot too. His early teams usually struggle and hit their stride after a few years, needs a patient program, should get it at Wake.

I thought he did a good job managing an impossible situation in 2011.
I also think his name has come under fire because he is the most recognizable name associated with the defense. He's not even the full time DC, he's the co DC. I bet most Buckeye fans can't even name the other guy, but they all want Fickell gone. Makes sense.

Team Rankings. They've got a lot of good stuff and it they have data going back to the 2003-04 season.
One caveat is that they only include games between FBS opponents. I'm good with that, but I understand that some won't be.

That must be exciting for UCLA fans. Those guys are playing well early. Not many teams can say that. LSU has a young secondary and it shows. Tons of mental errors and out of position mistakes. It's cost them big play all season long. They will mature and get better. They are very talented, just mistake prone at the moment.

For me it's an eye test. I've watched LSU this year several times, and except for the game against Georgia, I've been strongly impressed at how well and how physical their defense played- especially against Alabama and Texas A&M. Against Georgia they fell apart.

He'll be recruiting for Texas before it even gets announced. No shot he coaches a Sugar Bowl that even most Bama fans don't care about.

I can't think of a single coach in the world that would walk away from the number 1 class, and try and re-recruit all over again.
It's one thing to take a better job. But I can't think of many coaches that have downgraded.

Some of those recruits may be loyal to Saban and not the University of Alabama. I'm sure it would still be a good program, but why go to a place with uncertainty at the HC position.

I don't understand the downplaying of the Bama job - it's a top 5 regardless of who the coach is at the moment. I'm a Clemson grad/fan so I don't have a dog in this fight but top jobs are...

These schools spend $ on every aspect of the program and you can recruit nationally.
Tier 2: Michigan, Ohio St, UF, Oklahoma, FSU
A notch below but large resource base
Tier 3: UGA, LSU, Nebraska, UCLA, Oregon
Teams that can out-recruit most in there region and can win a head to head battle against a school in the top two tiers sometimes as well. Generally has waves of success but not a period of sustained success like those above them (or in Nebraska's case, currently in a downturn).

There's no way Stanford, VT, or Tennessee are in same tier as Notre Dame. Not sure Oregon is either but will concede that maybe Nike money has put them there.

Yeah Virginia Tech is not an elite program. Oklahoma State has some deep pockets and great facilities, I'd put them ahead of Va Tech. I think excluding Penn State is unfair as well, they are still a force and will be back soon enough. They are WAYYYYYYYYYY bigger than Va Tech though, even now.

I'd say it was as good as Texas - maybe not at that exact moment when Saban came on board - but both schools had gone through their "dark ages" - it's just that Texas emerged sooner while Alabama was dealing with the whole Logan Young/Albert Means debacle. But the Stallings years were pretty good ones at Tuscaloosa and that era and the Bear's era were better than the Texas years under Royal/Akers in my opinion.

They are top ten in football revenue and they have the best and most loyal fan base in college football IMO. When you go to a bowl game with Nebraska, their fans travel in waves and waves. The whole state basically comes, it's amazing.
