CFB might produce them, but it's the fans I love. Between the excitement of the fans "getting" the new coach and the despair of the fans "losing" the existing coach, it's comedy gold. I've never seen a fanbase like this Alabama fan base...pure awesome.I love college football.
What is a good Alabama board? I want to see their meltdown thread. Should be good.CFB might produce them, but it's the fans I love. I get most of my entertainment out of Facebook. If that's not enough, I go to listen to resident Alabama honk Fenebaum for about 15 minutes in sat radio. I can't imagine trying to go to any Alabama boards these days. What is a good Alabama board? I want to see their meltdown thread. Should be good.CFB might produce them, but it's the fans I love. Really at this point the only thing anyone has is a few random flights in and out of some airports that Saban may or may not have been on for scheduled recruiting visits.
Chip Brown is eerily silent on the matter.
tidefans.com is free.
Holy Crap!! Thanks for ruining my productivity today FDAS!!!!Now imagine these people had broadband...When did LSU get so good at the internet? This is awesome.
The talk from the UT guys has been that Fisher and FSU didn't get along...but they obviously seemed to this week with an extension. What does crossways mean?
I expected Fickell's stock, which wasn't that high, to drop with all the defensive breakdowns the Buckeyes had this year.Bowling Green HC Dave Clawson takes Wake job. Homer is gonna be crushed.
Luke Fickell of Ohio DC being mentioned as a possible replacement for Clawson.

Awesome...
Given the lack of openings I thought he'd be around one more year, but I'd be lying if I never said in the back of my head 'oh ####' after beating Northern Illinois.Bowling Green HC Dave Clawson takes Wake job. Homer is gonna be crushed.

I thought he did a good job managing an impossible situation in 2011.I expected Fickell's stock, which wasn't that high, to drop with all the defensive breakdowns the Buckeyes had this year.Bowling Green HC Dave Clawson takes Wake job. Homer is gonna be crushed.

I didn't think he wowed anyone when he was the interim either
Why do you think that?timschochet said:I just think their defense is on a par with Alabama and Stanford. What team, not on my list of 5, would you favor tI beat LSU on a neutral site?
UCLA started 8 Frosh (3 true Frosh) or Soph on defense against Southern Cal, including all of their four DBs and two of their three DL.jurb26 said:LSU has more talent than most teams in the country on D but they are young. 5 starters are Soph or Fresh. Team Rankings. They've got a lot of good stuff and it they have data going back to the 2003-04 season.Hey GDogg, where did you get the points/play, 3rd down %, etc stats from?
That must be exciting for UCLA fans. Those guys are playing well early. Not many teams can say that. LSU has a young secondary and it shows. Tons of mental errors and out of position mistakes. It's cost them big play all season long. They will mature and get better. They are very talented, just mistake prone at the moment.UCLA started 8 Frosh (3 true Frosh) or Soph on defense against Southern Cal, including all of their four DBs and two of their three DL.jurb26 said:LSU has more talent than most teams in the country on D but they are young. 5 starters are Soph or Fresh. Oh, this should be amazing for my rants against D'OnofrioTeam Rankings. They've got a lot of good stuff and it they have data going back to the 2003-04 season.Hey GDogg, where did you get the points/play, 3rd down %, etc stats from?
One caveat is that they only include games between FBS opponents. I'm good with that, but I understand that some won't be.
Can they please take their coach-in-waiting back?@ChipBrownOB High-level sources tell Orangebloods that Mack Brown will step down as coach at Texas after 16 years.

I'm just a "college football" fan.The Commish said:By all accounts, he seems to be an "SEC" fan.I thought JoeT was a Kentucky fanI just don't understand the LSU love. Especially now with Mett out with a torn ACL. A three loss team having to start a back up freshman qb is not the 5th best team in the nation. No offense TF & JoeT.
For me it's an eye test. I've watched LSU this year several times, and except for the game against Georgia, I've been strongly impressed at how well and how physical their defense played- especially against Alabama and Texas A&M. Against Georgia they fell apart. Why do you think that?timschochet said:I just think their defense is on a par with Alabama and Stanford. They are 49th in opponent yards per play. They are 72nd in 3rd down conversion defense. They are 29th in opponent points per game. They are 41st in opponent points per play.
To put that into perspective for you, here are Alabama's, Stanford's, and even UCLA's ranks in those categories:
Yards Per Play:
10. Stanford
14. Alabama
27. UCLA
49. LSU
3rd Down Conversion Defense:
12. Stanford
17. Alabama
35. UCLA
72. LSU
Points Per Game:
3. Alabama
9. Stanford
29. LSU
35. UCLA
Points Per Play:
4. Alabama
9. Stanford
24. UCLA
41. LSU
In case you think it's the strength of the opposition holding LSU's defense down, according to Sagarin, the strength of schedules of each of these teams are: Stanford (4), UCLA (6), LSU (27), Alabama (45).
That's why I can't get on TigerDroppings for very long. 1 or 2 posts out of a thread might have good information, the rest of it is bickering about anything and everything.TigerDroppings, tidefans, and aufamily are all good for horrible fans and blind homerism. The creme of the crop however is Hogville.net. Those people know insane meltdowns like no other.
ShaggyBevo is also awesome, but in a good way mostly.
He'll be recruiting for Texas before it even gets announced. No shot he coaches a Sugar Bowl that even most Bama fans don't care about.I'm seeing this too. So would he finish out at Bama and coach them for the bowl? What about Texas?
I can't think of a single coach in the world that would walk away from the number 1 class, and try and re-recruit all over again. He'll be recruiting for Texas before it even gets announced. Ask yourself this: Was Alabama a better job than Texas before Saban arrived?I can't think of a single coach in the world that would walk away from the number 1 class, and try and re-recruit all over again. He'll be recruiting for Texas before it even gets announced. It's one thing to take a better job. But I can't think of many coaches that have downgraded.
Some of those recruits may be loyal to Saban and not the University of Alabama. I'm sure it would still be a good program, but why go to a place with uncertainty at the HC position.I can't think of a single coach in the world that would walk away from the number 1 class, and try and re-recruit all over again. It's one thing to take a better job. MAC, WAIT!!I see we have degenerated into the SEC SEC SEC SEC portion of today's thread. See you all later!
There's no way Stanford, VT, or Tennessee are in same tier as Notre Dame. Not sure Oregon is either but will concede that maybe Nike money has put them there.Tier 1: Bama, Texas, USC
Tier 2: LSU, UGA, FSU, Auburn, UF, Ohio State, Oklahoma
Tier 3: Oregon, Tennessee, Stanford, ND, UCLA, VT, Michigan, Nebraska, Clemson
UGA? mehI don't understand the downplaying of the Bama job - it's a top 5 regardless of who the coach is at the moment. I'm a Clemson grad/fan so I don't have a dog in this fight but top jobs are...
Tier 1: Bama, Texas, USC, ND
These schools spend $ on every aspect of the program and you can recruit nationally.
Tier 2: Michigan, Ohio St, UF, Oklahoma, FSU
A notch below but large resource base
Tier 3: UGA, LSU, Nebraska, UCLA, Oregon
Teams that can out-recruit most in there region and can win a head to head battle against a school in the top two tiers sometimes as well. Generally has waves of success but not a period of sustained success like those above them (or in Nebraska's case, currently in a downturn).
I'd say it was as good as Texas - maybe not at that exact moment when Saban came on board - but both schools had gone through their "dark ages" - it's just that Texas emerged sooner while Alabama was dealing with the whole Logan Young/Albert Means debacle. But the Stallings years were pretty good ones at Tuscaloosa and that era and the Bear's era were better than the Texas years under Royal/Akers in my opinion.Ask yourself this: Was Alabama a better job than Texas before Saban arrived?I can't think of a single coach in the world that would walk away from the number 1 class, and try and re-recruit all over again. He'll be recruiting for Texas before it even gets announced. They are top ten in football revenue and they have the best and most loyal fan base in college football IMO. When you go to a bowl game with Nebraska, their fans travel in waves and waves. The whole state basically comes, it's amazing.Nebraska still seem like a program that high in these tiers?
