Okay, this seals it. The Coaches Poll came out over two weeks ago with OU at 4. Since then OU has lost two starting OL to injury and a starting DT to suspension. But OU's 4 in the AP poll as well. If the loss of 3 starters has no impact on your ranking they're not just subjectively but objectively worthless.
News flash. Everyone take note of the above!!! ;)

Sorry, doesn't mean I want a playoff.

:o
I think you guys are getting way too worked up over this. It's a pre-season poll. There is almost nothing but guess-work to base them on. I've identified some concrete evidence that should have had at least some affect on the AP poll. But it didn't. We're still talking about pre-season polls. Once the games start, the polls will start to take shape based upon actual game results. At best, this is an argument for not having pre-season polls or maybe even polls before October because pre-season rankings do have some affect on movement during the season. It's not an argument to do away with polls completely or not to use them in determining who plays in the NCG or whatever silly little playoff develops.

Yeah...not close to worked up over here. Just glad folks like you who called folks like me names for saying the preseason polls were worthless are coming around.

Link?I've always thought they were silly. How can anyone rank teams before games are played?

WAC drops football

The Western Athletic Conference is forging ahead in its battle for survival with the realization that it will not be a football conference after this season.

Commissioner Jeff Hurd said Monday the emphasis has turned to finding the number of conference institutions to retain NCAA Division I recognition as a non-football league. The University of Denver joins the WAC for the upcoming seasons as a non-football member.

"I think that sometime in late July it became apparent that it was unlikely we could continue with football," Hurd said. "We looked at every option we could think of. With the geography we have in terms of schools, it presents a challenge."

Hurd said challenges remain for the WAC to continue, even as a non-football conference. It must add two to three new members for the 2013-14 school year in order to have the necessary seven for NCAA recognition. He said an answer could be coming as early as September.

"If we can't get enough league members, we can't operate as a conference," Hurd said. "We're going to do everything possible to avoid that. There aren't any obvious answers out there."

DU athletic director Peg Bradley-Doppes wasn't available for comment on what DU's future might hold after the upcoming year. The Pioneers are competing in men's and women's basketball, golf and tennis, and women's soccer, gymnastics, volleyball, swimming and diving.

Football had become a losing battle for the WAC in the past few years, as the conference went through upheaval. The WAC previously lost Boise State, Nevada, Fresno State and Hawaii. San Jose State, Utah State, Louisiana Tech and Texas-San Antonio are leaving after the upcoming school year.

Seven schools — Idaho, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, San Jose State, Texas State, Utah State and the University of Texas at San Antonio — will compete in the WAC's final football season.

So how hurt is Lacy?
Looks like a 'joke''...similar to Fluker being suspended a few weeks ago.
Not an insider, so can you let me in on the punch line?
Sorry...You have to be an insider to get it apparently. He is a little banged up, but is supposed to be practicing by next week.
Thank you sir...I kinda wanted to see Dee Hart. See what Michigan lost out on.
Me too. With the camp focus on Lacy, the rumored move of '11 3rd string Fowler to H-back, and the uber-hype of true freshman Yeldon....there's been very little talk about Hart. But he was the one getting great reviews last Aug before he blew his knee.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/michigan-ad-supports-oklahoma-youngster-banned-wearing-michigan-171527708--ncaaf.htmlCooper Barton, the 5-year-old elementary schooler from Oklahoma, who was forced to turn his Michigan shirt inside out at school because of a dress code violation, captured the attention of many, including Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon, when his story went viral Tuesday."There is a regulation in the Oklahoma school system that if it isn't a university of Oklahoma shirt, you can't wear it," Brandon said while meeting with the media Wednesday. "What a bunch of crap, right?"So Brandon decided to invite Barton and his family to a Michigan game and Brandon said the university will put them on the video board to acknowledge them as loyal fans. But Brandon also had one other surprise. He said after hearing the story, he went to the M Den, the official merchandise retailer for Michigan athletics, and asked the store to make a special T-shirt for Barton. The T-shirt is a typical blue and maize Michigan football shirt, not unlike the one Barton was sporting to school that day, but when it's turned inside out, the word Michigan still appears on the chest. When Brandon demonstrated the shirt, he got several laughs and a round of applause as he shouted: "So, the hell with those people!" as he tossed the shirt into the crowd. What a great response by Michigan. They could have ignored the story or even reached out to the family quietly, but I like the fact that Brandon made a big deal about it. We all know dress codes are in place for a reason, but restricting non-offensive athletic apparel that doesn't represent one of the state's schools is kind of ridiculous, especially when we're talking about a 5-year-old.Congratulations young Cooper Barton, you are now a Michigan cult hero.

No wonder the school systems suck so badly. You would think they have better things to worry about than legislate others to be fanboys of their team.

Well obviously that's not what they are legislating. Any time you put rules in writing you are going to have situations where the rule is technically violated even though it has nothing to do with the reason for the rule. The problem is the lack of situational awareness on the part of the administrators/teachers. Heaven forbid they be a little flexible. Looks like it worked out just fine for the kid though, so that's good.

How do we know this kid isn't a tiny crip in training?

Its cool to keep knocking on Auburn right? Forget character...this guys name is bad ###.
Can we keep the recruiting BS out of the season thread? There's a dedicated recruiting thread.
Although this is why that site mentioned earlier forecasting wins based on recruiting rankings will be off. Auburn has recruited well the last few years, but is losing kids left and right due to character issues.
Wouldn't that be the case, though, for the last 10+ years? Teams (most teams) lose players to character issues, injury, early entry, transfer, not qualifying, etc. It's not like Auburn is unique in that they are losing/lost players.
It's not the case because AU is unique in the number they are losing (list I saw was 45 in the last 3 classes). The site may have a great history with their method....but here's the outlier....I don't see how AU wins 9.
Now AU's preseason AA center has been arrested and suspended:http://www.al.com/auburnfootball/index.ssf/2012/08/auburns_gene_chizik_suspends_c.html#incart_flyout_sports

So how hurt is Lacy?
University of Alabama junior running back Eddie Lacy had some good news for fans Monday afternoon regarding his injuries: The turf toe that limited him last season hasn’t been bothering him. “Nagging injury, but nothing series at all, “ he said. Lacy did more each day in practice last week, but coaches were obviously trying not to rush him and risk aggravating one of the injuries. Although Alabama had not released a depth chart as of Monday afternoon he’s expected to start Saturday’s game against Michigan at Cowboys Stadium. “Eddie looks good,” junior quarterback A.J. McCarron said. “I don't think his toe is bothering him at all. If it is, I can't tell. He's cutting fast. He looks light on his feet. He's picking up blitzes really well. We're going to need Eddie to play well on Saturday for us to be successful.”

While Lacy had 674 rushing yards on 95 carries (7.1 average) last season, he’s in place to be the primary ball carrier but not approach Trent Richardson’s 283 attempts in 2011 due to the Crimson Tide’s depth. Even Lacy said that it’s this team’s biggest strength.

“I’d like to carry it as many times as coach calls my number,” Lacy said when asked if he’d like 25 attempts against the Wolverines.

I suspect Michigan will sellout to stop the run in this game. It's their only shot at keeping it close. That leaves a true sophomore in Countess one on one most of the game, but I don't know what the WR talent is at Alabama this year. I predict a 14-17 point win for Alabama unfortunately. If the Robinson that showed up in the OSU game shows up in this game, they have a chance. He can't throw up the lame ducks off his back foot in this game or they'll have 3-4 INTs. Not having Fitz (though no official word out yet, I expect Hoke to bench him) will magnify the reliance on Robinson. It does excite me to maybe get a glimpse of Rawls though. I really want to see if they can get this kid on track.

Maze and Hanks left from last years WR group, but they didn't do much last year and some of the young guys got plenty of experience...including soph Norwood (78 yards in BCS Champ game) and Bell (2 TDs vs Tennessee). There is a true freshman getting a lot of hype...Amari Cooper....but not sure how much PT he gets, as there is a turf toe issue. The biggest loss in the passing game is probably TE Brad Smelley...he and AJ had good chemistry. Michael Williams is big and talented though.

When LSU stuffed the run in the BCS, we went to a lot of empty backfields putting the onus on McCarron to find a good matchup to throw at...mostly short stuff, but a few over the top. There is a new OC this year too though.

Oddly enough, I suspect the Michigan offensive plan to be very similar. They'll run some draws, QB draws to slow down the blitz, then rely on dink and dunk from Robinson. Fortunately, he's good at that stuff....long ball, not so much. I just wish it was a year or two from now with more horses in the defensive cupboards.

Slideshow of some new helmets/jerseys for CFB 2012.http://www.lostlettermen.com/slideshow/grading-cfb-new-2012-uniforms/#1Some of these are beyond hideous, but I like Central Michigan's look a lot.
Northwestern and Nebraska both look very cool. I like the App State logo too.

Stay Classy LSU and perhaps force folks down there to take an english class??

OSU fans not to be outdone At least their grammar was correct??
 Yes, this is completely respresentative of both entire fanbases.
If you say so.
Isnt this sort of like the Republicans/Democrats BS of one group being worse than the other? IOW....UM is no better than OSU or LSU...
I only see fans from a few fan bases making these tasteless t-shirts. I'm not sure what this has to do with politics though....just poor taste.
