TULSA, Okla. -- Tulane safety Devon Walker suffered a broken neck and collapsed lung Saturday in a head-to-head collision with a teammate during a game with Tulsa, according to a Tulane trainer.

Walker was revived on the field and a tracheotomy was performed. Walker is currently in the emergency and trauma center at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, but there is no further update on his condition.

Tulane assistant athletic director Roger Dunaway confirmed Walker was hurt and taken off the field in an ambulance that transported him to a Tulsa hospital.

The injury occurred on the last play of the first half. Walker had a helmet-to-helmet collision with teammate Julius Warmsley while trying to tackle Tulsa back Willie Carter. Walker then rolled on his back and didn't move.

FOX reported he stopped breathing when emergency medical workers removed his jersey and shoulder pads. The network said workers administered CPR and put in an IV before Walker began breathing again.

A hush went over the crowd at H.A. Stadium as Walker was attended to on the field. Several coaches were in tears. Spectators bowed their heads as someone on the field led the stadium in prayer.

Walker is a senior majoring in cell and molecular biology.

Information from ESPN's Brett McMurphy and The Associated Press was used in this report.

Not a movie script. :(
Sure it is. Just not the kind you are talking about. I doubt many want a happy ending for PSU this year.
Why not? These players did nothing wrong.
The program did plenty wrong and many are rooting against the program.
Misdirected anger.
I could care less. They need to be irrelevant for several years. They need some humbling. The players are involved whether they wanted to be or not, unfortunately.

Nobody is angry. If one never rooted for Penn State prior to this season why should they root for them now? The football program covered up some nasty stuff. A large amount of their fans (at least the ones I know) seem to want to avoid any punishment so their football factory isn't affected. Why would I all of a sudden start rooting for them out of sympathy? I think that program deserves to go through a losing streak but I'm not going to gain or lose a second of sleep based on their results.

I get not rooting for them. I don't get rooting against them. There is a difference.

If it makes you feel any better, I rooted against them before this whole thing happened.

It does, thank you.

I would have rooted for UVA today regardless of whether Sandusky ever existed or not. Didn't want UVA coming off a loss heading to Atlanta next weekend.

You heard it here first folks. Nevada is going to run the table this year. Not saying they should be in the NC game or that they would have any hope of beating LSU/Bama/USC, but with the schedule they have they are going to run the table.

Syracuse should be beating USC right now. Their WRs are a joke though. They've let 4 or 5 passes that would have gone for big yards go right through their hands.

Michigan gonna hang 70 on Air Force or what?
Too banged up, should win but I don't expect it to be pretty. 31-17 ish?
Shoelace just went 80 or so for a TD on his first rushing attempt. A.F. has no chance to slow him down.
Denard wasn't my concern, the o line is, playing like it too. The other is the defense wearing down as the game goes on after being beaten to a pulp last week. Starting to show those signs.

I really expected a lot more out of Muschamp as a head coach. So far, pretty bad...
Give him a few weeks, his QB situation is a mess, he needs time. Think they will be 1-2, but I think the Kentucky game could be a big swing game. Get right on offense in an easy home win then have a week off and see how October goes.

Several Gator fans I talked to thru the week were expecting a L because of their QB mess. But the shocking thing to me is the way they're getting manhandled physically. Does not bode well for the rest of their schedule.

The defensive front was definitely over hyped if week 1 said anything, been watching more Mich/AF than A&M/Florida so not sure if it's more of the same but if your eyes are right then it is. Tough to judge the OL because there's no reason for the defense to respect the pass.

The ACC needs all the OOC games they can get, so I'm rooting for UVA, but man, they absolutely do not deserve to win this game. Ah screw it. Rooting for the UVA feels too dirty. Go Nittany Lions! They deserve this win.
Game was brutal. Neither really "deserved" to win. Looks like Clemson, FSU and VT. I'm sure Clemson drops off at some point. No great wins yet for the conference.

New here? Self Righteousness >>>>>> the reality that everyone in the football program that had a hand in the events is gone.

The service academies and a few others running the option to the befuddlement of power program defenses is one of the really cool things about college football for me.

Cliff notes on Michigan-Air Force? Any real chance of the upset happenning?

Debating whether to watch that or MSU's scrubs in the second half.

What conference does have a great win yet? Has there been a great non-conference game? Best game so far seems to be A&M/Florida.

I said this last year several times but I say it again in 2012: Troy Calhoun is a bigtime coach who is going to get a premier job and succeed. I think he's one of the best coaches in college football.
