- Bret BielemaThe reason the SEC is talked about all the time is one team, because of their dominance. But I didn't come here to play Alabama. I came here to beat Alabama. You can take Saban's record when he was at Michigan State and when he was a coach in the Big Ten and put it against mine, and he can't compare.
It makes sense. When they were on the same recruiting trail, Bielema's record was better. He thinks that will carry over.Gotta credit the confidence....not sure about the logic:

@ Bielema. Looks like he's fast becoming a tool in the SEC, just as he was in the Big TenWhat do you want him to say? He's playing for second place?Gotta credit the confidence....not sure about the logic:

My first thought without looking it up is that Bielema replaced Alvarez and Saban replaced Perles who had the team in NCAA trouble. It makes sense. Ugh...can we pray Saban retires really fast?Ooof, this will end badly for Bucky.![]()
I'm sure Saban didn't inherit a team close to the talent level that Bielema did. Also, Saban probably isn't close to as good then as he is now. He's a much better coach and has improved quite a bit. Comparing himself now to Saban 15 years ago is silly. But I like his confidenceIt makes sense. When they were on the same recruiting trail, Bielema's record was better. RIP Coach Moore.A high-profile admin spot is now open with this week's somewhat sudden retirement of Alabama AD Mal Moore. Coach Moore was a player, coach, or AD for 10 national championships. But he was in a somewhat hot spot as AD 7 years ago....after a string of issues in football....but then achieved the crown jewel of his resume:
"Then, and only then, came what Moore will always be known for, convincing Nick Saban to leave the Miami Dolphins for the Capstone. "The first thing he did was he recruited Terry," Saban said. "I've told the story before that I wasn't even going to talk to him. I called Terry and said I don't think I'm even going to talk to these guys tonight. She said, 'Oh, Mal's already here. We've been talking for an hour.' That was his first step in the right direction."
Rumors have been flying about various names, led by Ozzie Newsome...but it appears Moore will be replaced by former Alabama player, Tennessee coach, and Father of College Licensing Bill Battle.
Don't forget Jones and Tenpenny. Saban spoke to this when asked why he signed 3 top RB in February....said he thinks he needs 5 at all times healthy, which isn't easy. Hopefully Henry is healthy before Fall camp.Alabama RB Derrick Henry suffered a broken leg in Saturday's scrimmage.
One of the biggest blows in a few seasons. Was looking forward to seeing this guy in the A-Day game Saturday. Kenyon Drake bumps up to #2. He showed explosive speed last season, but didn't have the hype that Henry brought. With Hart and Fowler coming back from injuries, the RB depth has taken a major hit.
Yeah, you caught me before the edit. Everything I hear on Henry points to a return NEXT season.Don't forget Jones and Tenpenny. Yea...hope it's not a sign of the future with him though...he's so big.scottybo said:Yeah, you caught me before the edit. Interesting note there too about Virginia Techs thinking:Because of a soft non-conference schedule that includes Ohio, Eastern Kentucky, FIU and Kentucky, Louisville has tried to bolster its schedule in the offseason.
The Cardinals were in discussions about playing neutral-site games with Texas A&M and Alabama and also a home-and-home series with Wisconsin, but nothing could get finalized.
The Cardinals also had an outside shot to open the season against reigning champion Alabama in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta.
Alabama will play Virginia Tech, but the Hokies considered withdrawing from the game if quarterback Logan Thomas left early for the NFL draft. Louisville would have replaced Virginia Tech, but Thomas returned for his senior season.
Looking at A&M schedule I see a good chance for HUGE disappointment. We came very close to seeing Manziel v Bridgewater on Opening Weekend:

I actually like that helmet. The funky style of helmets have finally made their way to the NFL.
Well... to Jacksonville, anyway.
There's a video of Blackmon wearing it on the Jags website. I gotta admit, it's pretty sweet.

B1G homers will know better than I, but looks like the East drew the short straw here. 4 traditional powers in the East vs. 2 in the west.
Although it makes the road to a conference championship harder, I think you want to be in the tougher division. I am hoping the B1G West doesn't turn into the old Big XII North.FreeBaGeL said:B1G homers will know better than I, but looks like the East drew the short straw here. 4 traditional powers in the East vs. 2 in the west. The Commish said:
I like the fact that FCS schools are going to be off the schedule. Even though PSU didn't play any (that I recall), that practice needed to stop anyways. The Commish said:
Pretty incredible. The 2003 game between Miami and OSU was pretty ridiculous too. From twitter:
In the 2011 National Title game LSU vs Bama there were 28 (and counting) NFL draft picks on the field that night.

We know how things change in CFB. Not too long ago the east of the SEC was the "powerhouse". I do think that given the BCS it's best for a conference to load a division. Granted, we'll be rid of this dumb BCS before long but it remains to be seen how the committee will be different.FreeBaGeL said:B1G homers will know better than I, but looks like the East drew the short straw here. 4 traditional powers in the East vs. 2 in the west. The Commish said:
Don't remind us. Offense will never see another draft pick again. Might not need to be score points on college level though. He needs to find NFL level talent on D though.
