Nebraska still seem like a program that high in these tiers?
It would be the school in my third tier that could drop out. They're right there with teams I left off like Auburn, Okie St, Clemson, Penn St (they would've been on here pre-scandal), Miami, Mich St, Iowa, etc... These are all great jobs they just have something going against them that the top level ones don't. Auburn, for instance, has Bama. There's obviously recent success there, but it's hard to sustain when you're that close in proximity to Bama. A close in-state rival in a State that is smaller (Oklahoma, South Carolina) makes things much more difficult.

News flash: It still is.

I'm assuming you're a Penn St fan? PSU's entire identity was wrapped up in Paterno. For most of the country, that's all anyone thinks about nowadays and it's going to take a little time. If you think that job is currently on the level of an Ohio St or someone like that, you're being a delusional homer.

They are top ten in football revenue and they have the best and most loyal fan base in college football IMO. When you go to a bowl game with Nebraska, their fans travel in waves and waves. The whole state basically comes, it's amazing.
I agree with that...but looking at some things recently seems like their own local recruiting is pretty stale lately. Just not a lot of great talent where they now have to compete more with better programs pulling in these guys.

Would have to dig up where I read that or heard it. It was while discussing Pelini somewhere and the recruiting base was brought up.

I agree they have a great fanbase and tradition...just not sure how great of a job/program it is currently.

Just curious - do you know the team records in the Iron Bowl?

Any idea what the record is since the games went back to the campuses? Is 25 years of history(which includes some games played in Birmingham) enough to meet your "sustain" level or is 25 years still just "recent"? - perhaps you need to check the record on that also.

TIM'S TIERS

TIER ONE (UPPER ELITE)

1. STANFORD

2. LSU (great defense, wow)

3. TEXAS (greatest program except for top 2)

4. ALABAMA (until Saban leaves, then tier 4)

5. UCLA (not a homer opinion, everyone loves LA)

6. WASHINGTON

7. USC -- cuz they just got worked by UW lolz

TIER TWO (WERE UPPER ELITE BUT NOW THEY SUCK)

8. FLORIDA (they weren't that good this year)

9. FLORIDA STATE (fluke)

10. AUBURN (fluke)

11. WASHINGTON STATE (dynamo in waiting)

I know this pales in comparison to the SabanGate intrigue but it might interest Cappy-

Gator Bowl chairman said to expect an announcement about Everbank Field hosting a major neutral site college football game. Earlier rumors centered around Florida State being one of the teams involved.

I'd love this. Hopefully it's against an SEC school. I would love to see them start building more games against the southern schools. They played one of these there in Saban's first year against Bama. Think that was the 6-6 team before he made it a powerhouse. Be awesome to do that again. There's really no reason to go to Dallas to play a game against a B12 team that your fans are hard pressed to attend, when you have a bunch of NFL stadiums in this state and Georgia. And natural rival possibilities.

I would think it would have to be an out of conference opponent, and they already have the schedule set out pretty far. Do you think it would be for 4-5 years out, would they add another out of conference opponent, or would they play an in conference team at a neutral location. I would think for an in-conference game someone would be upset about losing a home game.

They just added that Ok State game in the past 9 months. They can ####can one of those dumb FCS or lower tier FBS games if they have to.

Scoreboard renovation is supposed to be done this summer so I think/hope it would be in '14 or '15. Wondering if it's an early season game in '15 to replace Texas State or UTC.

2014, which already have a schedule that got fans excited with a home game versus Notre Dame and a neutral site matchup against Oklahoma State, will have the ’Noles facing off against Virginia, Boston College, Clemson, and Wake Forest at home. Florida State will travel to ACC-newcomer Louisville, in addition to NC State, Miami, and Syracuse.

Non-conference opponents for 2014 include The Citadel and Florida. One year later, FSU will travel to Atlanta to play Georgia Tech, in addition to Clemson, Boston College and Wake Forest, while hosting Louisville, NC State, Miami, and Syracuse. Out of conference games will come against Florida, Texas State, Tennessee-Chattanooga, and USF.

64 team NCAA football playoff bracket from For The Win/USA Today.

The South is clearly the toughest bracket. Florida St. has the easiest path to the Final Four.

My final four: Florida St., Oregon, Alabama and UCLA (homer pick, but I do like their draw).

lol at Oregon. But, that bracket does show how awesome a real playoff would be.

Penn State fan? Yes.

PSU identity wrapped up in Paterno? Not really...Linebacker U down?

I also never said it was in the realm of Alabama. Absent the scandal (just play along), the job search for that job post-Paterno would have been huge. If/when BOB leaves, it will probably be a highly sought-after job (probably moreso if he can return the program to its previous level of achievement).

In other words, it's a destination school, not a transitional one. You work your career up from MAC/SWAC type schools...ending up at places like PSU, OSU, Notre Dame, Texas, Alabama, USC. IMO, all these grades of "desirable" jobs are silly. There's destination schools and everybody else. The number of destination schools and who they are makes for a fun discussion.

I may be a fan, but I'm not delusional.

Glad to see North Texas got in over Rutgers

Btw what's the deal with BCS schools picking off the Arkansas State coach each and every year? Didn't realize it was such a factory of successful caoches.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was UGA. UGA played Clemson in 2014 & will again in 2015. After that their non-conference is still pretty open. The two teams haven't played since the sugar bowl in 2002. This would be a good intermediate location that is relatively easy to travel to for both of these huge fan bases.

Agreed.

Vandy pulled out of their game with Ohio State this year so I don't see why FSU can't do it.

Georgia or South Carolina were my first thoughts. SC does have a Charlotte game in 2015 though.

The GoDaddy Bowl has a curse; for like 6 years in a row one of the teams in the game has lost its coach before the game.

Pat Narduzzi turned down UCONN job because assistant pay wasn't high enough.

Pete Lembo next on the list?
Whatever. Why would he go to UCONN when he could have the Nebraska gig next year?
You really think he would have a chance at Nebraska? I always assumed Scott Frost would get the gig when Pellini was canned.

I had hopes that Narduzzi would take the UCONN job. He is from Connecticut, and it would be a big increase in salary.

@WTSPMelanie: BREAKING: Just spoke with family of Jameis Winston's accuser. Her lawyer plans to hold presser Friday. Family says, "It's gonna be good."

Why doesn't she wait until the night of the BCS Championship Game? Maybe even due an interview at halftime with Gloria Allred/

Surprised they don't do it the day of the Heisman ceremony instead of the day before.

I didn't know Narduzzi was from Connecticut. I think if he sticks around another year at MSU, and they have similar defensive success as the last few years, he will be in line for a higher profile job.

Interesting about Frost. If he would bring the option/power football back to NU, I would be all for it. I still think he is a year or two away, and Oregon's offense didn't look great a few times this year.
