There is some small irony in the fact that a rape chant was placed into a racist chant and you all are only butt hurt about one and not the other. Maybe Oregon was out of line but Winston, and other role players on FSU if I'm not mistaken, have put themselves into precarious positions that lead to this stuff.
If the Seminole Indian tribe is fine with the chant so am I. If it's "racist" to you, that's on you and has nothing to do with using rape as a punchline.
The Seminole Indian tribe [sic] is not fine with the chant. It was only "approved" by a small sub-set of Seminoles that has fewer than 2000 members. The majority of true Seminoles (over 18,000 members) does not approve of FSU using their name or imagery.
I'm not going down this path. I forgot I was in the FFA and should have been more complete in my comment....'if the Seminole Tribe of Florida is ok with it'.....I assume your second link is to the group in Oklahoma??

You don't need to put approved in quotation marks. The Florida Seminole tribe is all-in with the name and imagery. http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/colleges/florida-states-unusual-bond-with-seminole-tribe-puts-mascot-debate-in-a-different-light/2014/12/29/5386841a-8eea-11e4-ba53-a477d66580ed_story.html
Yep. Just like Daniel Snyder found several Native Americans who were "all in" with Redskins.
:lmao: either trolling or brain dead. Either way good day sir.

Opponents of "Redskins" were called "brain dead" back in the day as well. FSU nation is just a bit behind the times. We're not that far away from the public tide turning against FSU just as they've done with Daniel Snyder. The fact that a minority of Seminoles approves of their tribe being degraded does not make it right.

Go ahead and laugh. Scoff all you want. That's what Daniel Snyder did for years. But FSU is on the wrong side of history here, and their endorsement of racist imagery is going to end sooner or later.

A) The Seminole Tribe of Florida (where the name came from, not Oklahoma) not only approves but has a board member at the school and is consulted on all image changes. Read that article I posted if you want to see the relationship.

B) the nickname is not a racist term like 'Redskins'.

I will grant you the tomahawk chop makes me uncomfortable at times but you're wrong on the other stuff.

Oh, I'm well aware of the relationship. It's been mutually beneficial for the school as well as the minority of Seminoles who don't live in abject poverty.

The fact that the name came "from Florida" is not relevant to the fact that the imagery is considered to be offensive by the majority of Seminoles. What, you think all the Seminoles who don't live in Florida don't have a right to be offended? Do you think they left the state voluntarily?

I'm just sayin': there's a way to use Native American mascots with dignity. The tomahawk chop is not one of them, no matter what 2000 Florida tribe members say.

The tribe feels some ownership of the ceremony at Florida State home games. Osceolas garb and makeup were altered with the tribes input. Although the universitys pregame custom has met with criticism that it can conjure a stereotype of Indians in battle, the Seminole hierarchy approves of it.

Regarding opposition from American Indians outside Florida, Billie summons the notion of tribal self-determination, with each Indian people setting its own course.

We tell them to go back to their own territory, he said. Leave us alone. This is my place, my home.

Just came in to say that Capella is absolutely right about this. Everything Florida State does is totally legit with the Seminole tribe, and native Americans in general do not criticize Florida State, which has a long history of being very respectful with regard to native Americans.

Capella, you can correct me if I'm wrong, but the think the Seminoles are unique as a native American tribe in that they never surrendered to the US. Government.

This is correct. The majority were sent to Oklahoma. Some of them actually do contest the use of the name by the school. The ones that didn't surrender kept going futher into the Everglades until the US gave up.

Well...this explains the big ### casino in Immokalee

Yea that's where the unconquered thing came from.

Have you seen the renovation that was just completed? Huge now. Such a weird scene, Immokalee otherwise largely consists of farm workers, many of them migrating in season, and then this large casino on the reservation for the Naples crowd. There's a casino in Brighton on the reservation too...in the middle of nowhere. Much smaller though. I can't speak to the rest of the tribes across the state but the most of the Seminole in that portion of the state aren't living in any sort of poverty.

FSU should have 2 actual Seminoles on their team every year. Or make it like the TAMU 12th man.

So who's going to Dallas? I booked my flight yesterday morning from the hotel in Pasadena. Got home last night and have already re-watched the Rose Bowl once, that 3rd quarter was such a thing of beauty.

It should be a hell of a game Monday night!

Yeah...we were down there over Christmas. It's the second most random casino shenanigans I have seen. The most random goes to the casino in BFE Mississippi. Silver Star or some such? Just in the middle of nowhere

Some dope at the U.S. Army High School All-American Bowl just announced his decision by emphasizing that he will be "...spending the next THREE years at USC."

:lmao:

Bought my plane ticket 3 weeks ago. I will be there with about 10 friends and family

Just saw the "no means no." Funny or not?
They picked up on what people off camera were doing and copied it. But as a scholarship athlete in this day and age you just have to know better and take the high road. As a Duck fan, I wish that hadn't happened, it wasn't classy.

On the flip side, Shameis has at the very least repeatedly put himself in situations ranging from idiotic to criminal, so it's to be expected and probably deserved that other 20 year olds might mock him.
