From where we were a month ago, that's a lot of improvement! Can't complain about the results given the timeframe. Up to #35 nationally for this year with 14 taken. Leaves for a pretty big class next year.
Got that right....added 8 total and 6 of those were committed somewhere else at the time. From where we were a month ago, that's a lot of improvement! Can't complain about the results given the timeframe. Up to #35 nationally for this year with 14 taken. Leaves for a pretty big class next year.
Thought I saw Speight was transferring for his 5th year? Did I mix him up with someone? Is Harbaugh one that takes a QB in every class? Seems like he wants a big competition for the position. He'll have 5 on the team, right? O'Korn (can't compete this year), Morris (JR), Speight, Gentry, Malzone (all the same eligibility). Interesting note on Lyons. Would certainly help as they need bodies in the secondary.
Speight is just a sophomore.Thought I saw Speight was transferring for his 5th year? Did I mix him up with someone? Is Harbaugh one that takes a QB in every class? Maybe that was it.You thinking about Bellomy? He's transfering.
Dont want him. He didnt want to play at UM the first time, I think Jimmy will tell him to pound sand. Exactly what this program needs.Foosball God said:Some interesting swirl around Weber. Seems the OSU RB coach that recruited him is leaving for the Bears and Weber is none too happy.
The only players who commit to a school are the ones who are there for the education and for what the school can provide. That excludes about 90% of FB and BB players who go to a school because of the coaches who recruit them. Stan Drayton was the RBs coach and main recruiter of Mike Weber..Weber even said he only saw Myer once and that was on a visit. It was kind of slimy for OSU and or Drayton not to inform Weber he would be leaving the day after signing. Welcome to big time college football Mr. Weber.Dont want him. As far as all the noise with his position coach leaving and them not telling him. Should commit to a school, not a coach and not a system. Hard to do I know, but its the only way to avoid this stuff.
And don't sign a LOI. I can't say I'd want him either (even if he were able to get out of his LOI). It was annoying that he didn't just man up and say "I choose OSU over Michigan". It sucks for him and I have empathy for the situation. It really does suck, but I have zero sympathy at this point.Dont want him. Agreed. That's why the stud recruits shouldn't sign LOIs. Just accept a scholarship to the school but don't sign the LOI.The only players who commit to a school are the ones who are there for the education and for what the school can provide. That is what McDowell did at MSU last season. Accepted the ride but did not sign his LOI for quite awhile after.Agreed. That's why the stud recruits shouldn't sign LOIs. because they don't know betterDont sign an LOI....
I didnt know that was an option. Hell, why would anyone sign that?
Depends on what kind of player you are. If I'm a 3* and I get an offer from one of the big schools then I want that LOI in as soon as I can. 4* and above should wait.because they don't know betterDont sign an LOI....

This is just shady though. Roquan Smith and CeCe Jefferson were just lucky to have caught wind of this before they signed. The rules should be in place to help the kids. Dan Enos was head coach of CMU and left the program two weeks before signing day. These scum bag coaches who grey shirt, over sign, and lie to the kid about there intentions are just wrong. If this were my kid, and he fault like he was defrauded by these guys, there would be no way they would play for that coach. I would petition or sue the NCAA for an automatic release with no restrictions and even if it didn't work that program would feel the effects of their decision.
As an tOSU fan, I will say, you should be committing to play for a school, not a coach. This is just shady though. They will let him out because Webers HS coach at Cass Tech has already talked about banding together with other Detroit PSL coaches and not allowing OSU much contact with their kids. Lets face it OSU will replace Weber with another Weber. Letting one kid go to keep good faith with a big talent base is well worth it. Lying to recruits has been going on forever..but this is a different day and age with social media. Plus Meyer over-recruited and needs to cull 3 players from his roster so this will actually help OSU.I don't really see how Meyer has a choice here if Weber really wants out. We're hearing more and more about situations like this. Yeah, most will probably blow over, but you can bet that it will be used by the coaches recruiting against him going forward if he forces the kid to stay.
I would say it went from crappy to fair. Did not get any of the really big names, but got some solid players to fill needs.So...how did we do?
any of them stand out to you guys?I would say it went from crappy to fair. Did not get any of the really big names, but got some solid players to fill needs.So...how did we do?
only way it may change is if hs coaches stand up to it.The Weber situation and ones like it sucks for everyone. One recruiter shouldn't be so tied to one recruit. I admit I don't know all the rules though. Recruits should be committing to the school not the recruiter. And by school I don't necessarily mean education first. Your committing to the program. You don't see Elliot transferring because Drayton is leaving. If he really wants out, send him far away, or to UM, who cares. They have a better recruit targeted next year anyways.
And to those HS coaches threatening that garbage, go ahead cost your kids the chance to play at one of the best programs in the nation. You shouldn't strive to look like the bigger fool.
It's easy for us to say as outsiders looking in. All valid talking points, but none really rooted in reality. These are 17-18 year old kids getting pulled in a ton of different directions by a ton of different people. And I doubt many of those doing the pulling really care about the individual as much as they care about their job/program. The college coaches know that and act as they choose. I don't know why folks would lash out at the HS coaches protecting the kids they've coached for the better part of 4 years. Some of these guys are like "dads" to some of these guys. The Weber situation and ones like it sucks for everyone. One recruiter shouldn't be so tied to one recruit. I don't deny there is some suckage for Weber. All sides in this are in a bad position, I'd say we agree there. But if the sole reason he chose osu is for his position coach then he's not doing it right and is getting some bad guidance from "dad". I'd venture to say Drayton is selling a thousand more things about the program and school then about himself.Good "dads" don't tell their kids you can't go here or there for school. We will disagree about shutting the door on a place a kid might want to go. I'm sure there is a little bias going on here as well. It's easy for us to say as outsiders looking in. . I recall one coach, possibly tOSU coach, acknowledging that it was essentially his job to keep finding better players than the ones he already had. I.e., ...no guarantees. You want to play at that level, you take your chances. So yeah, pick a school that you like - not just a coach; not just an athletic program. Probably half my son's friends who chased v'ball only ended up changing schools along the way. [My son ended up choosing Illinois engineering and setting for their top-notch club v'ball team.]I doubt he did it soley for the position coach. That's a strawman argument that no one is making. It seems quite logical to be upset that the guy you grow closest to during recruiting up and leaves without telling you. To the last part, I'm not sure what any of that means. My position is that a good "dad" is there to give advice on situations and protect them where they know there is harm to be suffered. That includes both positive and negative experiences in recruiting. I don't know why that's "biased". My position on this is well documented where similar things have happened well before this one. It was the same then as it is now. You can go to the recruiting thread and look at the Bobby P incident recently, or the football thread when similar things happened at Alabama etcI don't deny there is some suckage for Weber. He didn't sign with the Bobcats. If Ohio had integrity they would let him out of his LOI.
if it's anything but giving him the option to leave they're doing it wrong. He didn't sign with the Bobcats.I'm sure there will be a conclusion to the Weber saga. It's only been a few days.If Ohio had integrity they would let him out of his LOI.
My bias comment was directed at Wilcher and the other Michigan HS coaches, not you (I can see why you thought that the way I wrote it). Like a "no Big Ten" stipulation? Yeah, with the limited information we have that's probably true.if it's anything but giving him the option to leave they're doing it wrong. He didn't sign with the Bobcats.I'm sure there will be a conclusion to the Weber saga. That would be pathetic, but about what I'd expect. Only reason they will do anything is because of public outcry anyway. Nothing said, no action. Where is the kid's integrity in that? Or better yet the coaches? Climb off your high horse. It's a two way street. Your butt hole coach lied to the kid in telling him he'd be the only RB in his class, spawning him to go OSU in the first place: http://www.freep.com/story/sports/high-school/2015/02/04/mike-weber-ohio-state-michigan/22856749/That would be pathetic, but about what I'd expect. Yeah...I doubt he goes anywhere.I don't get the sense that Weber will fight this, but I really think he has a chance to fight the contract on the basis of fraud. I think if he even threatened a lawsuit then Ohio would let him walk because it would become a topic on every talk show and it would bring up all the dirt again.
Yeah, i'm not suggesting that they refuse to allow kids to go to school there...not in the least. I have zero problem with the coaches telling them how previous recruits were treated though. Wilcher was big in helping Weber decommit from Michigan when the train was burning, so I'm not sure I buy that angle all that much. At least that's what Weber said in his comments of support from his HS coaching staff. My bias comment was directed at Wilcher and the other Michigan HS coaches, not you (I can see why you thought that the way I wrote it). The "dad" stuff is simply this... one wouldn't close the doors on anything with your kid. Give them advice, whatever. You said many of these coaches/kids are like father/son....I agree, I see the same thing 10 minutes from my house with Ted Ginn, Sr. and his program. Lock a school out of your building? Eh, if that guy wants to look as bad as that crummy OSU program, go for it.
If you (Commish) think that will help solve things, that's your opinion, I think that makes things worse and it's not right to those kids.
