I really want Brady Hoke to be a good coach

I do not think he is, at least not at this level.

Now for my concern, i like Hoke and do not think he is a good coach. I hate Harbaugh and I think he is a great coach. I really fear the stars are aligning for the niners to fall from grace and move on from Harbaugh, for Michigan to dump Hoke, and for Harbaugh to come in.

He would do a fantastic job, but I do not like him at all.

I'm sorta in the same boat as you minus the strong feelings towards Harbaugh. I do think a Harbaugh hire would be the lease impactful to the current talent and recruiting classes coming in. However, if he fell out of grace in SF, Michigan would be competing with the NFL to get him, so I don't really think it'd happen unless Harbaugh really wanted to come back to Michigan.

I agree he'd likely stay NFL, but I do not think he should. I think he is a great coach and a humongous ###. If the NFL you have pros being paid a ton of cash and think his act wears thin. In the NCAA you get kids chasing a dream who are more willing to put up with him, because they have no choice. I think he is a better NCAA coach. The question is, does he realize that? probably not.

7-5 looks like best case at this point, i do not see them beating MSU or OSU, and odds of them sweeping everything else are slim. I just have trpouble believing that will cut it

I'm personally not on any sort of Miles bandwagon. He has incredible talent around him that bails him out year after year....game after game. He won't have access to that kind of talent in the midwest. The Jimmys and the Joes certainly matter in CFB.

In 2011, Hoke and Mattison came in and immediately made the defense respectable as opposed to disastrous. They also had Denard.

Hoke's record at Michigan without Denard is terrible.

What's been so very bizarre to watch is how the defense was completely forgotten under the RR era and now it seems to be that way with the offense. The RR guys left in droves and it's part of the reason so many underclassmen have been playing on the o-line. The offensive decline was, in part, because Hoke allowed Borges to be so stubborn. That went way too long. Now, the offense is in it's third "scheme" in 6 years. That's tough for any group to handle, nevermind how youthful they are on offense. It's clear to me that Hoke's first priority was to address defense, but in doing so, offense fell WAY behind...very close to the way the defense fell behind under RR. The classes from 2012-14 are "his". The 11 class was a salvage job just to keep the ship upright. FWIW, I think he did a fantastic job with that. However, I expect to see those highly ranked classes from 12 and 13 producing fruit by this point. I think for the most part they are "meh". No question they are better on defense, but the defense can't perform at a consistently high level with the offense being so bad with 3 and outs and turnovers.

I probably wouldn't be so pessimistic about this team if Morris could show how he'd be an improvement. He still may be good in the future, but he gives zero reason to believe he'll be any better than Gardner is right now. Certainly can't be any worse.

When you watch the replays of Gardner's INTS it is tough to figure out what he is seeing. The one INT against Utah I saw 4 white jerseys in his sight line between the hash marks, and a glimpse of a blue jersey in the middle of all of them. Right now it seems like Michigan will lose at least one more game other than MSU and OSU. A 5 loss season will have to spell the end of the Hoke era. Hoke seems like a great guy but appears totally overmatched as a HC of a big program. Sometimes coaches like that thrive at smaller schools where expectations are lower.

If they do fire Hoke they should be able to at least present the cupboard is not empty like it was for RR and Hoke.

From what I have heard and it could all just be just someone typing lies on a keyboard, but Bo was one of his idols. That is not hard to imagine. He wanted to go to Michigan, but wasn't good enough. Another one that doesn't seem far fetched. The rest I guess is internet rumors, but Ace does write for Mgoblog so this is another one that "might" be true.

And this is why this will be so interesting. For me, the entertainment/interest is going to be that power struggle between Brandon/old guard vs those "new guard" who want to win, think the "Michigan Man" thing is silly, and want Michigan to be relevant on a national level again. There's only one guy out there (now two I guess) who meet the criteria of both sides. The Harbaughs. Anyone else would be feeding one side or the other.

My three separate sources tell me that the next domino to fall is Brandon. He must go before any potential football coach can be approached as he totally botched the Hoke hire, never offering the gig to Miles or either Harbaugh. The two names surfacing in the AD hunt are Ward Manuel the AD at Uconn and Brad Bates, the current AD at Boston College.

If either one of these gentlemen is hired, the road to a Harbaugh gets much more probable. Both Harbaugh brothers and Miles would take the Michigan job under the stewardship of Bates or Manuel, none of them would come to Michigan under Brandon, so change is imminent.

Now forgive me if I paste some sucky source. I don't know the credible ones vs the up there anymore, but that link was an interesting read. If it's true and Harbaugh(s) were never even offered, that's brutal.

I'm sure all three were offered.

ETA: I take that back... I'm sure both the Harbaughs were offered... not positive about Miles, but I'm sure there were conversations.

Different day, different take.

My three separate sources tell me that the next domino to fall is Brandon. He must go before any potential football coach can be approached as he totally botched the Hoke hire, never offering the gig to Miles or either Harbaugh. As a matter of fact, he never even returned calls to Les Miles when he was interested. In his mind Hoke was the only option from day one.

Well, we know that Brandon went to LSU to meet with Miles. All parties involved say there was no offer. Brandon's remained quite (as far as I know) about Jim, but Jim said there was no offer. No idea if Brandon met with John last time around. His name didn't even come up that I remember, but I was out of the country a lot....I still remember coming home to the news that RR had been hired and my initial reaction was

One thing that's more clear to me right now, than ever is that I think Miles would take the job if they made it worth his while and Brandon was gone. I'm not sure 60 year old Miles is the way to go, and honestly, I don't really care for him, but he's certainly loyal to Michigan.
