*** Official 2022 PGA Tour Thread - Memorial Tournament, LIV list leaked- It's all Paulina's Fault **** (1 Viewer)

Greens will be key. Will they be tame or have teeth. If they have teeth, a mediocre putter won’t win. Another plus for Cam…minus for JT and DJ.

Could see some severe weather this afternoon and tomorrow morning. Winds Thursday 10-20 mph. Winds Friday 15-25. That could help dry them out for the weekend.

On the menu tonight for Hideki’s Champions Dinner:

Sashimi + Sushi 🍣
Yakitori Chicken Skewers

Miso Glazed Black Cod

A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Beef 🥩 Ribeye
mixed mushrooms & vegetables

Japanese Strawberry Shortcake 🍰

😋

bad news for Niemann

@JasonSobelTAN: Tiger Woods will tee off in the 10:34 ET grouping on Thursday alongside Joaquin Niemann and Louis Oosthuizen.

From XM…the hosts played it yesterday and said it was super firm. Poured there today, but they (and DJ) thought it was dry enough prior to absorb it easily and still play fast.

on a serious note, the 4th member is a good debate, right?

3 wins: Jimmy Demaret, Sam Snead, Gary Player, Nick Faldo, Phil Mickelson

4 wins: Arnie
5 wins: Tiger
6 wins: Jack

Honorary First Shots take precedence, IMO: Jack Tiger Arnie Gary.

The crazy thing is that in 13 years it will be Faldo, Tiger, and Phil doing the Honors early Thursday am...

Didn't realize T-DUB (see what I did there?) was joining Jack and Arnie.  Cool!
I didn’t know about Watson until I read it today.

The early starters (Jock Hutchison and Fred McLeod in the 60s and 70s, Nelson & Sarazen in the 80s) didn’t hit ceremonial shots. They would zip through 9 holes (sometimes 18) in 90 minutes or less. Not sure when it became just tee shots - they def played a full round when Nicklaus won in 1986. I have a book on that tournament & IIRC they played 18 in like 2-1/2 hours lol.

Not sure I could walk the course in 2.5 hours these days.  :(

not the Masters ...but me and my buddy Ben Crenshaw at the inaugural Memorial Tournament in 1976 - they had some of the local HS teams take scores at the Member-Guest play on Wednesday.

When the players finished the hole, the rope opened and everyone had to get out of the way but us guys getting the scores from the group score keepers.

I have a tee sheet with a ton of signatures from that time.

You need a haircut.

Who is the big guy on the other side of gentle Ben?

1976 Memorial winner was Roger Maltbie, who wore these pants unironically

Surprised Nike didn’t custom make a shoe for Tiger. Or at minimum mock up a Nike off the FJ chassis. The Footjoys he is wearing this week so far are off the shelf as far as I’ve heard.  Customs aren’t easy but it’s the largest footwear company in the history of the world.

Oh man.  Greatest dinner ever at that joint.

Never occurred to me, but the Masters champion picks up the tab - Hideki must have spent $15K+ last night (minimum)

Kind of cool to find out the ANGC chef’s go to great lengths to make sure they’re 100% authentic each year - hire consultant chefs, have practice dinners, etc

Bet Sandy Lyle’s haggis still tasted like ###

I did not know that.  God Bless Hideki (though not surprising in the least).

And his caddy, btw.  Still one of my favorite moments ever at Augusta.  The respect at the end of it all.  Fantastic.

Interesting change at 11 with the tree removal on the right to open up a drive right a little, but then the lip add on the right edge of the green to make that bail out approach really hard now to get up and down.

New mounds near the green, too. The Larry Mize chip no longer exists.

IIRC #15 was lengthened 20 yards and the new tee is back and to the left. The shot there is a fade off the trees on the left side that can block you out - sounds like that tee shot is incrementally harder now.

Another tidbit from the Champions dinner. Normally the host - Ben Crenshaw since Byron Nelson turned it over to him around 2004 - welcomes the new champion at the beginning of the meal.

This year Gary Player handled the honors, speaking to Hideki in Japanese for about 90 seconds. He then translated the speech to the others.

Better description than my ‘lip’…but yea, bail out long in bunker may be better than bail out pin high where Mize was and where a lot of shots late Sunday end up.

weather channel app says winds could be blowing 20+ mph in Augusta Friday afternoon.

worst winds 3pm to 5 pm.

Any ticket cost comps vs previous years? Surely highest ever…

Got some coworkers that are going Saturday and it wasn't crazy.  2500 maybe.  I forget what sat only was when I did Thurs/Fri.  Feel like it was in that range.

Due to thunderstorms in the early morning hours Thursday, gate openings and tee times will be delayed by 30 minutes.

Ticketing gates will open at 7:30 a.m. In addition, the Honorary Starters Ceremony will take place at 8:15 a.m., followed by the first tee time at 8:30 a.m.

Went Monday. Had an unbelievable time. Took my kid who I was worried about being bored but he loved it all. A buddy came as well and he was basically a museum tour guide. He knew everything about the course.

At one point I was standing off to the side of a hole and like out of a tree or something some guy in what looked like an all-white caddy outfit appeared out of nowhere.

Caddy Ghost:  This is where the ball went

Me: oh cool. I didn’t see it land. (To my wife: we’re gonna see a golfer up close)

Caddy Ghost: Bubba’s ball

Me: oh no #### Bubba Watson wow

Caddy Ghost: you know I’m talking about his shot in 2013 right? (I think he said 2013)

Me: uhhhhhhhhhh right yes of course

Anyways, everybody was nice, people were thrilled to be there, I got a picture of us at amen corner, and spent $550 at the gift shop. Felt bad for a second until the guy next to me got rung up for 6k. Egg salad was delicious, pork was uhhh not great, all the cookies and candies were extremely good. Saw Tiger up close on the range too. That was a thrill.

Max Huma waved at my kid after taking a shot and then my kid thought every golfer was Max after that. (GO MAX he yelled to some golfer who was definitely not Max)

We’ll be going back for the weekend next year.

Awesome! I was there on Monday as well. Fantastic time and great weather. I avoided the Tiger craziness in the afternoon but did get to see 4 golfers all skip across the 16th pond at  the same time. It was so cool. Food was great and I really liked the Crow's Nest beer even though I generally don't love wheat beers.
