***Official - 2025 Major League Baseball Thread (7 Viewers)

pretty cool:
Blue Jays-turned-Red Sox catcher Danny Jansen didn't just play for both teams in the same game -- a first in major league baseball history.

He played for both teams in the same inning.

Jansen became the first major leaguer ever to appear on both sides of a baseball box score when he took the field for Boston on Monday in the resumption of a rain-delayed game he started for Toronto in June -- before he was traded to the Red Sox.

Before the game resumed at 2:06 p.m. ET Monday -- a delay of 65 days, 18 hours and 35 minutes -- Red Sox media relations coordinator Daveson Perez announced the changes in the Fenway Park press box: "Pinch hitting for Danny Jansen: Daulton Varsho. Defensive changes: Danny Jansen now at catcher."

With Jansen behind the plate, Nick Pivetta struck Varsho out to complete the at-bat Jansen started. Then Jansen came up for the Red Sox with two outs in the bottom half of the frame, getting a nice cheer from a sparse makeup game crowd, and hit a lazy liner to first base to end the inning.
Now in card form.

Detroit’s 43-119 is still the worst record in a 162 game season, right? White Sox are going to have to go 12-18 just to tie that.

They are 35.5 games out…of 4th place. (h/t Jon Heyman)

Royals are done. Two more injuries tonight.

In the last week we have lost one SP to the IL. One more with a cramp. Vinny probably broke his hand tonight. And Erceg, our best possible reliever tried to catch a hard shot grounder with his bare hand.

A damn shame. This will be a hard pill to swallow as they’ve done so good to be in this position. Playoff hopes are done.

Damn.

On the plus side, the team is trending the right direction. Right? Got some really nice young pieces, a good rotation, solid bull pen. You have optimism, which is something many MLB teams don't have going into next year.

Heck, I am a Twins fan and I don't even have a lot of optimism going into next year. Tight owners who won't spend $$$ to make the roster better, even on the edges. It looks like the Twins have a good young core if they can stay healthy, but the could use some $$$ for depth and I am not even talking about high dollar players.

The 1962 Mets were 40-120-1, with one game postponed and never made up.
Well they’ve lost 5 in a row since that post, so I think they have a good chance of breaking that too.

I don’t think this was mentioned in here, but if you remember the 2002 World Series, there was a play at the plate where jt snow pulled dusty bakers young son, the batboy, out of the way. I remember that like it was yesterday. That kid is named Darren baker and he is a baseball player and was called up to the show by the nationals the other day.

47-47 for shohei. He's going to make it.

Tigers looking really good lately! Young bats have come alive, even if the pitching is Skubal+some smoke and mirrors. Fun to actually be playing meaningful September games for a change.
Yeah. They are gonna make it in my opinion. And more than likely at the expense of my Royals.

Which is fine. The Royals are in a playoff race in late September. That's all this guy needs at this point of my life.

Brewers certainly did the Royals a solid this weekend.

Royals are in striking distance but their schedule for the next couple of weeks is brutal:

3 w/Angels at home
3 w/Phillies at home
4 @ Guardians
4 @ Astros
3 w/Guardians at home
3 w/Twins at home
3 @ Yankees

Make or break time for them.
Just to update for any who cares. The Royals just finished this stretch:

2-1
1-2
3-0
0-4
1-2
3-0
1-2

11-11. So not bad and still in playoff position. Their remaining series:

3 @ Pirates
3 w/Tigers at home
3 w/Giants at home
3 @ Nationals
3 @ Braves

Should be fun. :suds:

50-50 Watch

Currently 47-48

16 games left. Steals will be easy, he's running any time he's on base. Everyone knows it, just try to catch him. Homers might be more of a challenge if they start pitching around him.

Oh, I dunno about that.....he has 6 games against Colorado, 3 a mile in the air and 6 games against teams in a wildcard chase. Put him on base to face Betts/Freeman/Hernandez?

For the love of the game.

Charlie, here comes the deuce.. and when you speak of me, speak well..

Go Royals! (I feel more comfortable facing the Astros in the wildcard than the Orioles if the Twins make it in as the #6 seed). Put the nail in the Tigers coffin. Twins have a brutal week coming up with Guardians and Red Sox.
