***Official 4th Pick Thread (1 Viewer)

I had my 12 team redraft last night (after a ridiculous day that included a draft olympics: pie eating contest (no hands), home run derby, proper beer pong, dunk tank, swim relay, relay race with spinning around a bat and trivia). We get .5 point per recpt for WR/TE only. everything else is pretty standard. The league has been around for 12 years and most owners when sober are pretty good.

1. Turner (AP, Forte, MJD went 1-2-3.) Not in love with Turner but the fact that RBs in our leageu don't get PPR helps a bit.

surprise of round: no big ones. went DWill, SJ, LT, Slaton, Fitz, AJ, Moss, CJ.

2. Brady. 1st QB off the board. I was amazed. just hope his shoulder is ok. If it is he should be in for a big year.

surprise of round: nesides Brees and Brady being there at 2.09 maybe Westy and Jacobsa going 2.1 and 2.2

3. Colston - thought there was a drop off after him only ones I had in his tier were Welker and Bowe.

Surprise of round: TO at 2.06 for me before Bowe and Welker.

4. Ray Rice - well this was the big gamble. I figure take a shot at him and hope it works out. he would not have been there in the 5th I confirmed so we will see.

Surprise of round: probably my pick. (parker and d. ward were next 2 RBs taken (there were few around).

5. S. Holmes - not crazy about this pick either but whatever.,

Surprise: both Beannie Wells and Palmer went in the 5th.

6. Berrain - tried to build some depth at WR

Surprise: Matt Ryan went in the middle of the 6th.

7. Donald Brown - another shot at a high reward guy if things pan out in Indy.

Surprise: 1dt defense goes - Steelers

8. Matt Schaub - should be set at QB with him and Brady

Surprise: None really but if you are targetting Leon Washington he went in the middle of the round/\

9. Crayton - with Williamd dinged up I thought he was worth a shot here.l

Surprise: 4 Qbs went in this round: Big Ben, Garrard, Hasselbeck and Delhomme.

10. Visanthe Shiancoe - 10th TE off the board

Surprise: Coffee has hit the radar. he went at 10.12

11. Norwood - to back up Turner. hope is knee is ok

surprise:NE kicker taken, first of draft

12. Justin Gage - #1 WR on team and nice preseason

Surprise: 1st NE RB goes (Fred Taylor)

13. Chargers - I wanted them. 8th defense taken

Surprise: favre is taken as well as Heyward-bey

14. Javon Walker: getting thin and late in the evening

Surprise: Mohamed Massaquoi

15. Mike Bell

Surprise: someone took the WAS defense

16. Gould

Surprise: nobody is passed out yet.

I had my draft out of this slot tonight. However, it was a banzai draft. WR's & TE's get .5 PPR and we have 2 flex spots, so you are only forced to start 1 of every position in an 8 man roster. I'll post my picks below and also who went in order if it were regular serpentine.

1.04 - MJD. I was shocked that he fell, but the first 3 were AP, Turner & Forte.

2.09 - Megatron. Dre Johnson was the only non RB taken in the first (1.11). Round 2 was mainly WR's and QB's, with Portis (2.07) and Westy (2.10) being the only RB's selected.

3.09 - Roddy White. Barber, P.Thomas, Grant, R.Brown and T.Jones all went in this round. Pick 3.04 (assuming it was a regular serpentine) was R.Grant.

4.09 - B.Edwards. Bowe, Welker and Colston went right before my pick. However, K.Smith did go in this round. So did 5 other WR's and 2 TE's.

5.04 - McFadden. Ward, LJ (both picked before me), Lynch, Parker and Addai all went in this round. So did Brandon Marshall (5.01).

6.09 - Steelers. Reach by me but I knew they wouldn't make it back. 4 RB's (Stewart, Rice, Lendall, Benson) and 6 WR's go in this round. Holmes fell all the way to 6.06.

7.04 - Schuab. 10th QB off the board. All the potential upside backs went in this round (Moreno, F.Jones, Bush, J.Charles - ???, C.Wells).

8.09 - Donald Brown. 9 of the other picks in this round went on QB's and DEF's.

9.04 - Hester. Hightower (9.05) and Palmer (9.11) went in this round.

10.09 - C.Taylor. 6 RB's in this round (Sproles, McCoy, Maroney, F.Jackson & J.Jones).

11.04 - D.Keller. Cassell, Hass and Shockey were picked right before my pick.

12.09 - C.Henry

13.04 - Harvin

14.09 - Tynes

So I guess you can still get decent RB's in the later rounds....

Bump for thoughts on strategy at 4 going into this weekend?

Will probably be looking at Forte but am thinking of reaching for LT.

Really lost as to go with RB's early or take one then stock up at WR.

Is this a PPR?If not, AP, Turner, MJD, Forte. If so, MJD, AP, Forte, maybe S. Jackson ? (health risk) or Tomlinson. Perhaps a stud WR.I draft next week in a PPR, and hope to get one of MJD, AP, Forte. if those three are gone I'm really temptedto go after Andre Johnson. I had him last year, and after a slow start he put up huge numbers.Although it's really tough to pass on a RB so early.Good luck

We are non ppr. I'm also having trouble picking between the 2nd round wr's at that point (Jennings, Smith, White, Boldin). Or do you go with a Portis/Barber?

I like Barber, but in non PPR Portis is fine.If you go WR, I like:Jennings or Smiththen White or Boldin.

I had the 4th pick in my 12 teamer $$ and found this thread helpful. Drafted monday night and wanted to return the favor

Start 1QB 2 RB 3 WR 1 TE 1 K 1 D 5 reserves

1: Turner: (AP, MJD, Forte before) I like turner over forte. Forte will be a let down i feel.

2 R wayne: 4th WR gone. Big 3 went before.

3. Warner: Qb heavy league with 6 pts Pass TD and bonus for good games. Brady,Brees, Manning and Rivers went before. I feel I got good value here.

4. P Thomas: concerned a little about Bush, but happy with him as RB2 in a 12 teamer.

5. Houshmanzadeh: Impressive so far in SEA. He flew in under the radar I think.

6. Willie Parker: only clear decent starting RB left at this point. Hoping he bounces back this year.

7. K walter: Best WR left I think he can have a good year with Schaub

8. K winslow: 6th TE taken

9. D Driver: happy to have him as a WR4

10. Delhomme: Hopefully Warner will last and I won't have to use him much.

11. Jets

12. Jamal Lewis: starting RB in the 12th? i know he's been bad but i was surprised to get him here

13. Vinatieri

14. Devry Henderson

I have a tough time not considering D-Will at this spot (non-PPR). I do not remotely expect him to do what he did at the second half of last season, given their schedule, but he just seems like as close to a sure thing to get top 10 numbers as anyone outside of AP this year to me. They have a great O-line and are at least a threat to throw the ball, and I actually think that Stewart helps D-will by keeping him fresh. Assuming ADP and MJD go 1-2, I personally feel more comfortable with D-Will than I do with either Turner or Forte. Turner will certainly get the carries but Matt Ryan has one more weapon in the red zone this year (Tony G.) that I really think will lower Turners ability to score, plus I will admit that the number of carries he had last year scares me a bit (no scientific proof to say it should...just does). As a Bears fan, I just hesitate to take Forte at this spot. He has looked great in the preseason and he is still their best offensive weapon but I just do not feel like they are going to get him the ball as much as they did last year, now that Cutler is in the mix. If he does get fewer carries that low YPC that he had all of a sudden does become an issue.

So to me, if he is available and both AP and MJD have been taken D-Will is the way to go. I would also consider one of the WR's here (Moss, AJ or Fitz...whoever your preference is) but in non-PPR you almost have to go RB at this spot and he just seems like the one to take to me.

I am a little surprised he is not getting a bit more love at this pick. But I am probably just in the minority. I do not see him as being a guarantee top 3 finish and he will not win you the league like he did last year, but he seems like a sure top 10 RB finish who will be steady and not kill you. You win the league by one of the later picks, IMO. love to hear any thoughts.

I'm going with Brady at #4 in my league, but it is 6 pt TD and 15 yards for a point passing, so very favorable scoring for QB's. If I was not in a league with such QB scoring, I would be deciding between DWill and Moss, depending on scoring systems.

I have thought about Williams. If I get him I would also like to get Stewart as insurance but he is just going too high. With his injury maybe he slips and this is reasonable. My other issue is that in the 2nd round there is a good chance Smith is the best player on the board and Im not crazy about my 2 best players on the same team.Right now am thinking LT as I have serious doubts about Forte if he falls to me. I know LT is on the decline but does he really do worse than last year? I'd like to think he is motivated for a comeback year.Thoughts.

Just finished my $600 buy in league draft from the 4 spot - 1 pt/20 yds rushing/receiving, 1 pt/50 yds passing, all TDs 6. No TE required.

1.4 - Jones-Drew (Brees went #3 - nice !)

2.9 - Jacobs (couldn't believe he was still there in a TD-heavy league)

3.4 - Boldin

4.9 - Warner (wasn't targeting him, but 7 QBs were already gone and the 3-4th tier guys were left)

5.4 - Bowe (nice)

6.9 - K. Moreno

7.4 - S. Holmes

8.9 - Holt

9.4 - Donald Brown

10.9 - D. Avery

11.4 - PHILLY D

12.9 - Kaeding (never take K/DST this early, but with my depth, I can afford it)

13.4 - Garrard

14.9 - INDY D

15.4 - K. Brown

16.9 - Leinart

All in all, I like this team quite a bit. If FBG projections are on this year and I avoid injury, I think this team can do damage.

My draft from the 4 spot(drafted 8/21) non-ppr all TD's 6

1.4: LT........Not as high on Forte as others, and SJax has burned me in the past ADP/MJD/Turner(123)

2.8: A Johnson.....WTF? I'm not going to complain

3.4: R Brown......about where I thought he'd go

4.8: D Bowe.....Looking good

5.4: K Moreno......Little early now(2 weeks ago, it wasn't), but I really like this pick

6.8: S Moss....guy will get his looks

7.4: D McNabb.......almost creamed myself when I saw him there

8.8: D Brown......Guy should be valuable when I need him

9.4: J Jones.....Missed out on Sprols.....not a bad #5

10.8: J Cotchery...#1 for a team that will need to pass

11.4: L Moore......love him here.

12.8: M Hasselbeck.......hope he has something left

13-16: Kickers/D's

Our league has roster restrictions demanding we carry 2QB/5RB/5WR/2K/2D

Overall, I'm very happy.

Got another draft tomorrow night(again drafting from the 4 hole) Lets hope it goes this well again.

This is my draft from Tuesday night, I think I did very well, with one exception.

Scoring is PPR, with 1 point per 5 rushing yards, 6 for tds all across. 12 team draft.

Roster spots are: QB/2RB/3WR/1Flex/1K/1D

1.04 - LT -- wanted MJD, but he was taken in the 3 spot. And I love him in PPR.

2.08 - Calvin Johnson -- wanted Moss but he went in the 7 spot. Don't love him in PPR, but I can't complain.

3.04 - Steve Slaton -- !!!! I couldn't believe it, there was a huge WR run in round 2. Could not believe he fell this far.

4.08 - Chad OchoCinco -- I had a hard time deciding this one, it was either him or TO, as I don't trust Braylon or Roy Williams. A product of me taking Slaton in the 3rd round, but no regrets.

5.04 - Ray Rice -- I honestly thought after the WR run in the second round that rice would go in the 4th, so happy!

6.08 - Donovan McNabb -- he was by far the best available, a lot of QBs went early, it went Shaub, Palmer, McNabb, in that order.

7.04 - Derrick Mason -- a solid WR3 in my opinion, could do worse.

8.08 - Vikings D -- didn't want to draft defense this early, but they were coming off the board, had to act.

9.04 - John Carlson -- wanted to wait for Shiancoe, but I can't complain.

10.08 - Patrick Crayton -- targetting Josh Morgan with this pick, but he went a couple picks before and I panicked, this is an awful pick, and I was obsessing over bye week flexibility, which I regret, should have taken best available.

11.04 - James Davis -- a bit early I must admit, but there are a few very savvy owners in this league (i know them all personally) and he was getting press, so I had to act, I should've maybe taken Leon Washington and waited for Davis.

12.08 - David Garrard -- solid backup.

13.04 - Cadillac Williams -- good sleeper pick.

14.08 - Sidney Rice -- another awful pick, shoulda taken Jermichael.

15.04 - Edge James

16.08 - Michael Bush -- (Fargas was still available), went for the possible TD back.

17.08 - John Carney

Overall very happy, the huge runs for WR and QBs really threw me, and my ridiculous worries about bye weeks (in this case week 7).

I should've just taken the best available in the later rounds. But I don't think it will make or break my season. But it does hurt my trade chips, hopefully I can grab the guys I want off FA.

Slaton in round 3, creamy pants.

Hey guys, who were you targetting at wr/rb in our spot in round 2 and 3? Having trouble picking between Boldin/Smith/Colston/White etc and Barber/Brown/Grant/Portis/Westy etc, anyone care to rank/explain?

Tough dec in round 2. I targeted and got R wayne as i feel he will have a huge year. our league is qb heavy though so that is why he fell. If he is there i'd go him. Of the wrs listed I like Smith the best due to clear number one with proven record and tremendous ability. I would rank them Boldin,White, Colston in that order next. Rd 3 Rb, i feel Portis is probably the best bet, then westy, Barber and Grant. It depends on if you want to gamble or go with proven steady results. Portis is the safe play, but will probably not have the best numbers of that group. Westy's age scares me, but he is great when healthy. I look for Barber or Grant to have a big year, but they are just as likely to be disappointmnets. hope that helps

Why do I still want to reach for Moss then go RB the next 3 rounds? Does K Jones done for year help Forte? Whos next in line?

Any thoughts from recent 4's drafts?

We start 2RB, 2WR and a RB/WR.

Drafted last night in a 12 teamer, 15 rounds. Starting lineup QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF. Scoring system is standard non PPR except all TD's are 6 pts and QB's get a point for every 15 yards (so very favorable QB scoring). League is a good mix of all types of owners.

Here's what I did

1. R. Moss WR (AP and Brady were gone, didn't like other RB's there)

2. S. Slaton RB

3. S. Smith WR

4. D. McFadden RB

5. M. Schaub QB (as the 10th QB off the board already)

6. E. Royal WR

7. C. Palmer QB

8. F. Jones RB

9. K. Moreno RB

10. O. Daniels TE

11. J. Morgan WR

12. K. Winslow TE

13. M. Bush RB

14. Green Bay D

15. Neil Rackers

So my lineup looks like

QB: Schaub, Palmer

RB: Slaton, McFadden, F. Jones, Moreno, Bush

WR: R. Moss, S. Smith (CAR), Royal, Morgan

TE: Daniels, Winslow

K: Rackers

D: Packers

Overall I was very happy with the way things worked out for me. Took 2 QB's relatively high because it is such an important position in this league.
