OFFICIAL 5th pick (12 team redraft) thread (1 Viewer)

bumping this somewhat for visibility... I'm wondering if anyone else wants to weigh in on the 5th pick...

Doesn't sound like there is much of a consensus yet.... Brady, Moss, Jackson, and Addai seem to come up most frequently, though as I mentioned I'm kind of leaning towards Marion Barber III...

I'd be thrilled with a Barber/Fitzgerald start, especially with news that Warner (his eyes can get glued to Larry Fitz) might be the starter in Arizona. I don't know how people value QBs, but I've also considered trying a Barber/Romo start and just riding the cowboys this year...

For those of us picking 5 and hoping to start with a RB, it essentially comes down to how you rate Addai, Jackson, and Barber (though I've heard others mentioned), and quite honestly I'm having a hard time picking a winner...

I just posted my results the post before yours...It's a PHENOMS league (1QB, 1 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 D, 2 flex) and 0.5 PPR RB's and 1 PPR WR/TE's. Hope it helps.FWIW, I was amazed at the WR's flying off the board in the first 3 rounds.

Finished my main league draft tonight (5 slot)

14 team league

Starts 1/2/2/1 (+ 1 flex - WR or TE only)

Std Performance scoring - no PPR

18 rounds and req'd to carry 2 TE/K/D so I'll leave those last picks out

QBs go early in this league - even @ 4pts. / td.

About half 'sharks' and the rest are OK

1.5 MBIII (passed on SJax and Addai - brady 4th)

2.10 Braylon (McFadden and Jamal in R2 let him drop)

3.5 Calvin (early maybe, but I don't think so and he wouldn't have made it back)

4.10 B Marshall (this may be one I'll want back, but w/ flex WR/TE only these 3 will destroy teams)

5.5 Cutler

6.10 Ricky (hope he can be a servicable RB2)

7.5 Chris Johnson (decent RB3 if he gets 15 touches a game)

8.10 Meacham (early, but love him this year)

9.5 Maurice Morris (maybe my SOD)

10.10 Vince Young (middle of the backup qb run - don't really like him, but not much left)

11.5 J Norwood (not much left @ RB)

12.10 Musin M. (should be solid early to cover Marshall's suspension w/ Smith out)

13.5 Scheffler

14.10 Fasano TE MIA

Wasn't planning on going WR 2/3/4 and might regret it if anything happens to MBIII. We'll see if Barber over Addai/Jax pans out - I just see less risk here, even w/ Felix getting some work.

Anyone else have any results from the 5th spot it would be helpful.

I have the same spot in a 12 team league

all td's 6pts

1 pt 25 yds pass/rush/rec

1 ppr

I am not locked in any one player as of now.

DD has Brady at #1 overall and he may be there when I pick.

I expect to have to choose from Brady/Jackson/Addai/MBIII

Anyone that picked in the 5th spot, or anyone else, have any thoughts?

I had a chance at MBIII/Brady/Jackson and took Jackson. As much as I like Brady, I just couldn't take a QB in the 1st round. I was trying to get Brees in round 3-4 but he went right before I picked.

I drafted from the 5 spot on Sunday. 10 team league. Standard performance scoring (QB's get 4 points per TD).I ended up with Westbrook at 1.5 (LT, AP, Brady, Addai...)My first several rounds were:1.5 Westbrook2.6 Wayne3.5 Fitzgerald4.6 Roy Williams5.5 R. Bush6.6 K. Smith7.5 Chris Johnson8.6 Schaub9.5 Daniels10.6 A. GonzalezI simply thought the best value in rounds 2-4 were the receivers that were available. We start 2 RB's and 2 WR's with a flex RB/WR. Brees went right before I drafted in the 3rd round or I may have been tempted to go QB there. Once he was off the board (as was Brady, Manning and Romo) it was an easy choice for me to wait to get my QB (slightly risky as he is mostly upside however). I also waited on a TE once the top few were gone. Overall you can build a very solid team if Westy/Addai/Sjax fall to 1.5. I'm happy overall.

Here's my draft:Round: 1 Steven Jackson RB Round: 2 Larry Fitzgerald WRRound: 3 Brandon Jacobs RB Round: 4 Jason Witten TE Round: 5 Anquan Boldin WR Round: 6 Selvin Young RBRound: 7 Vikings D/ST D/ST Round: 8 Jake Delhomme QB Round: 9 Bernard Berrian WR Round: 11 Jerious Norwood RB Round: 12 Kurt Warner QB Round: 13 Sidney Rice WR Round: 14 Mason Crosby K Round: 15 Chris Perry RB I'm not happy with having both Fitz and Boldin, but I felt like I couldn't pass on Boldin in Rd5. I was the last team to draft a starting QB. I wanted to wait another round, but teams started to pick their 2nd QB so I felt that I had to make a move on one.

For those of us that elect to NOT take a RB with either of our first two picks out of the 5 slot.....what RB's are you targeting in rounds #3 & #4 in a PPR league? A few that come to mind that I am sure I/we will be faced wtih are:

Jacobs - can't catch

MJD

Parker

Jamal Lewis

Michael Turner

Thomas Jones

Who are you targeting and why? If you are a HOMER for any of these guys, please provide any insight you may have.

Check my draft on the last post on page 1. 5pt pass TD's but the rest close enough to make some sense of it for you.

drafted last week:

Moss

MJD

A Johnson

McFadden

Gerrard (big run on qbs here)

Ricky Williams

Chris Johnson

Mendenhall

Berrian

Bryant Johnson

DeSean Jackson

Meachem

Aaron Rodgers

Gostkowski

just completed draft from the 5th spot. 12 team redraft. start: 1 QB, 2 RB, 3WR, 1 FLEX (WR/RB), 1 TE, 1 K, 1 Def.

1.05 Joseph Addai RB

2.08 Maurice Jones-Drew RB

3.05 Reggie Bush RB

4.08 Chad Johnson WR

5.05 Jason Witten TE

6.08 Lee Evans WR

7.05 Donovan McNabb QB

8.08 Deuce McAllister RB

9.05 Vincent Jackson WR

10.08 Jay Cutler QB

11.05 Ahman Green RB

12.08 Vernon Davis TE

13.05 Jerry Porter WR

14.08 Dallas Cowboys defense

15.05 Dominic Rhodes RB

16.08 Stephen Gostkowski K

17.05 Marty Booker WR

18.08 Mark Clayton WR

I like Barber and the high powered Cowboys offense. Lots of scoring opportunity. Addai is also a nice pick here. SJax is shakey for me since the Rams offense struggles. If Westy or ADP drop to you at 5 you gotta take em. I can see taking Brady in a 6pt Pass TD league.

Had a draft today and landed in the 5th spot...thought i'd throw it out there with a lot of drafts going on this weekend...12 team standard scoring starts qb/rb/rb/wr/wr/te/fled/def/k....

1. (5) Marion Barber (I think he has the best shot at top 5 numbers outside of LT/AD/Westy)

2. (20) Larry Johnson (Very happy with this value at 2.8...gives me a solid 1-2 RB punch)

3. (29) Calvin Johnson (Megatron will explode this year, and didn't want to miss him)

4. (44) Santonio Holmes (almost went Boldin, but the hype on Santonio got to me...turns out it didn't matter!)

5. (53) Anquan Boldin (biggest shock was him still on the board - he was the 19th WR taken!)

6. (68) Selvin Young (could be great value)

7. (77) David Garrard

8. (92) Ricky Williams (see Selvin Young)

9. (101) Ted Ginn Jr.

10. (116) Zach Miller (my sleeper pick...he seems primed to explode into the top 5 TEs)

11. (125) Jacksonville

12. (140) Jason Campbell

13. (149) L.J. Smith

14. (164) Kevin Jones (My rb flyer...could be a solid flex play by mid-season)

15. (173) Sidney Rice (this was the only true DD pick...which was telling me to take him starting in the 12th  )

16. (188) David Akers

So there it is....thoughts? I intended on going RB/WR/WR/RB aiming for Stewart and/or Deangelo later...but LJ was too hard to pass up. I don't think he's done just yet....should be a solid RB2 and maybe even put up RB1 numbers.

FYI: I'll post the first four rounds to give you an idea of how it played out...

1. LaDainian Tomlinson

2. Adrian Peterson

3. Brian Westbrook

4. Joseph Addai

5. Marion Barber

6. Steven Jackson

7. Tom Brady

8. Frank Gore

9. Randy Moss

10. Clinton Portis

11. Ryan Grant

6. Jamal Lewis

7. Drew Brees

8. Larry Johnson

9. Maurice Jones-Drew

10. Andre Johnson

11. Larry Fitzgerald

12. Willie Parker

ROUND 4

1. Torry Holt

2. Earnest Graham

4. Darren McFadden

5. Jason Witten

6. Reggie Bush

7. Thomas Jones

8. Santonio Holmes

9. Chad Johnson

10. Kevin Smith

11. Carson Palmer

12. LenDale White

Jon Stewart went 5.1...which is the earliest i've seen him go yet - and why he's not on my team

Just drew # 5 in a redraft 12-team league last night.

Love to watch all of these teams post their drafts and scenarios through the first 4 rounds! I read every one of them.

Seems obvious that in the 5 spot you have 8 realistic potential choices with your first pick, possible 10 if you reach even more, and I imagine the first two RB's will be gone for sure. If not case closed.

1) LT

2) AP

3) Westbrook

4) SJax

5) Addai

6) Barber

Next best positions

7) Brady

8) Moss

My thoughts are I like Brady and / or Moss to drop (clear field separation at their position). If they don't and Westbrook is still there convince me? His TD #'s in the projections are not very high and we get zero PPR (7 TD Rushing, 2 TD receiving). I would hope for perhaps 8 TD Rushing and another 4-5 Receiving, which now warrants the # 5 pick in a zero PPR league.

Not exactly 100% sold on Addai, SJax, or Barber with the first pick either.

I've done my tier thing through the first 4 rounds with picks # 20, 29, and 44 and I'm fine with whatever direction this pans out. It's interesting that at # 5 you could go RB, WR, or QB this year.

Draft not until Wednesday, Sept. 3rd.

Keep the thread alive

Just finished drafting at the #5 spot. My 12-team league is TD heavy, all TDs 6 pts, rush/rec 100yds = 4 pts, 275 yds passing = 4pts, no deductions for fumbles or interceptions. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR/TE, 1 FLEX (RB/WR/TE), 1 K, 1 D. I chose Brady out of 1.05 basically because the way my league drafts, QBs fly off the board. While sometimes I can understand value in waiting, I figured the top 6 Qbs would be off the board before the pick came back to me, and was pretty close. So here's how mine ended up:

1.05 Tom Brady (5 QBs off the board by second round pick)

2.08 Larry Johnson

3.05 Marques Colston

4.08 Earnest Graham

5.05 Anquan Boldin (Couldn't believe he was still here)

6.08 Edgerrin James

7.05 Minnesota Defense (I reached, but I liked the reach as I really think Minnesota's D is going to score bigtime this year)

8.08 Joey Galloway

9.05 Chester Taylor

10.08 Jake Delhomme

11.05 Vernon Davis

12.08 Maurice Morris

13.05 Muhsin Muhammad

14.08 Chris Henry

15.05 Phil Dawson
