***Official ALCS Thread- ORIOLES vs ROYALS*** (1 Viewer)

Baseball has to be loving all the one run games this year. Though this particular one run game felt like a blowout once KC got the lead

Yost managed a good game tonight.

I liked the move to yank Guthrie after 5 innings even though he was pitching well. He was at 94 pitches and about to face the heart of the order. He already tempted fate enough by starting Guthrie; no need to taunt it by leaving him in there for 100+ pitches in the sixth.

Putting Dyson in to run for Aoki is a move he's done a lot on the 6th-7th to get more speed on the basepaths and more defense in the outfield. But what I really liked there was resisting the urge to have Cain bunt. Yost has called for a sacrifice bunt way too often in that situation this season.

For all of Yost's shortcomings as an in-game tactician, he seems to be a good manager of people. A lot of managers would have lost/given up on a guy like Moustakas after the start he had. He deserves some credit for keeping Moose's head on straight even after moving him down to ninth in the batting order.

Been a very well managed series. If anything I thought Buck might have tried a pinch hitter in the 8th.

This postseason has been great for Gausman. Been good all year but looks to be making the leap now.

Not conflicted, I was there tonight and loved every minute of it. I'll be out there for Game five if needed and at game one and two of the world freakin series once we finish this. Again we are not the best team in baseball but we are the hottest and really after that 83 win cardinals team won the world series I recognized baseball playoffs are really just an October tournament and the hottest team wins and this year it is the Royals

So true, he doesn't look phased by the moment and he is pitching better than just about any other Oriole pitcher. That's at least one silver lining going into next year.

Why is Duffy invisible all of a sudden?
Duffy got pulled early in a start in late September. Been used extremely sparingly since. I don't think he's right physically. He has better stuff than Finnegan but Yost has been sticking with Finnegan as the lefty out of the pen vs lefty hitters. Might be hurt or Yost might not want to put him in a relief situation he's not used to. Not sure but it's hard to comprehend a guy with his stuff just off the radar like it has been.

Flying my magic Orioles streak-breaker flag today.

Shortly after getting this flag for my birthday in summer of 2012, I came to realize it had magical powers.

The day after I put it up on July 14, 2012, the Orioles lost 3 straight games. I naturally made the logical assumption that the flag was jinxed and took it down. Although disregarding a four-day-old gift that I had specifically requested angered my wife, there was no arguing with the facts when the Orioles went on to win their next 5 games in a row.

But suddenly, they lost their next 3. Hmm, I thought. Last time I took the flag down, it ended a 3-game losing streak. Maybe this time putting it up will also end a 3-game losing streak. Sure enough it worked. And they never lost 3 straight games again that year, finishing 42-22 to earn their first playoff spot in 15 years. That's when I cane to understand that by putting up or taking down a nylon Orioles flag, I was having a direct effect on the team's results.

Ever since, I have alternately taken down or put up the flag in response to 3-game losing streaks.

This year, the Orioles were riding high in late August, sweeping 3 straight at Comiskey to reach a season-high 21 games over .500. They headed next to Wrigely with everyone expecting more wins. Shockingly, they dropped 3 in a row to the lowly Cubs.

So the flag came out. And the Orioles went 19-5 to run away with the AL East. They slumped a little after clinching, going 3-3. And then something amazing happened. The Orioles dropped 3 straight meaningless games - Jeter’s farewell, followed by a pair to Toronto. I knew the flag was ready to provide some series post-season magic. Because they had lost 3 in a row, it was time for the flag to come down and change the team's fortunes. So after flying it proudly for a month straight, I stashed it in the basement just as all the bandwagon fans were beginning to festoon their homes in orange and black.

The Orioles immediately won their next game, then swept 3 straight from Detroit. You know the rest – running into a red hot KC team that has now taken 3 in a row from the Orioles. That means it’s time yet again for the streak breaker. So this morning as the bandwagon fans were sadly folding their newly purchased Orioles swag away, I once again proudly raised the flag. Today's game is in the bag thanks to Magic Orioles Flag. The only question is if it can generate a second consecutive 4-game win streak.

I knew that he was pulled that quickly (1 pitch IIRC), but if he is/was hurt, there is no reason to waste a roster space on him, put him on season ending IR.

Mixed emotions. I want to watch the rest of this game bc I realize it's likely their last one until next spring, but I can't take any more. So incredibly frustrating.

Sell out.

That's the Delmon we know and love!

Congrats to the three Royals fans on the internet, what a team.

11 games was the minimum amount of AL playoff games we could have got, and we got 11. oof

We swept the giants this year and were 3-1 vs the cards. I ain't scared of the n.l. even if I envy your shorter games

Tickets for seats with backs on them for Game 1 of the World Series start at $773 on StubHub right now.

I think it's been a while since this city has had the World Series.

That is the worst logic you could have used.

Buck O'Neil was 73 the last time the Series was played in Kansas City.
Think I'm going to have to wear my KC Monarchs hat tomorrow.

If you haven't read it yet, the next baseball book you read should be "The Soul Of Baseball", Joe Posnanski's book about Buck and his legacy.

Congrats, KC fan(s). Your team is on an absolutely amazing roll & this Orioles fan is pulling for y'all in the WS.

Joe is a good writer I miss his columns in the local newspaper. Good follow on Twitter as well. I haven't read that book though.

I have a monarchs cap too, where did you get yours?

The Star sports section was a must-read when Posnanski, Jason Whitlock, and Jason King were all there.

I got my Monarchs cap at the Negro Leagues museum store. The city is fortunate to have the NLBM - I've taken non-baseball fans there who have raved about it.
