Official ***Alex Green** fantasy playoffs thread (1 Viewer)

As most know, it appears that Alex Green has little competition for carries this week, and certainly moving forward. The team signed Ryan Grant, who knows the system but doesn't appear to be an immediate threat for carries. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say he never really is. I'm predicting this backfield is all Alex Green from here on out. Because looked much better last game and he's the best receiver out of the backfield on the roster.

I went back and analyzed this last game against Detroit and what I saw was a big strong kid playing big and strong. He used the power in his 6'0" 225lbs frame to move defenders and used his speed to get to the edges. He looked different in this game and I noticed it while watching it last Sunday. He was running like James Starks and Adrian Peterson ran in the game..with abandon and fearlessness.

1 14:29 0 - 0 2nd-and-5 own 30 - Took the ball out of the pistol and was immediately met by Chad Greenway 1 yard deep. He dragged Greenway forward for 3 yards.

1 13:29 0 - 0 2nd-and-2 own 45 rushed for 9 yards (first down) - Sweep right out of the singled back slot left. Finley got a nice seal and nobody touched Green for 5 yards. He dragged Greenway another five before two more Vikings chipped in on the tackle. Just hit the edge hard an one-cut and go.

1 12:58 0 - 0 1st-and-10 opp 46 rushed for 5 yards - Draw up the middle out of the gun. Looked like he bobbled the ball a bit on contact but twisted his way forward for another couple yards. Nice hard run up the gut.

1 4:54 7 - 0 2nd-and-20 opp 24 caught pass for 12 yards - Little outlet pass with room to run. He got spun around and headed in the right direction. Was met by three defenders and sent the rookie safety Harrison Smith sprawling backwards two yards on impact. Just rammed it up in there again.

2 7:32 10 - 7 2nd-and-5 opp 50 rushed for 3 yards - Rush up the gut. Linebacker met him in the whole and stalemated him. Twisted to the ground for maybe another yard.

2 5:02 10 - 14 1st-and-10 own 20 rushed for 3 yards - Nicely blocked little off tackle play. Gain of three. Nothing special.

2 4:22 10 - 14 2nd-and-7 own 23 rushed for 3 yards - I-formation, blast left. Was grabbed early and dragged defender forward for two more yards.

3 12:34 10 - 14 1st-and-10 own 42 rushed for 6 yards - Off tackle right, got through an arm tackle and spun out of it only to be met nicely by Smith again.

3 6:54 13 - 14 1st-and-10 own 40 rushed for 4 yards - Got to the edge, but went down kind of easily.

3 4:04 13 - 14 1st-and-10 own 49 rushed for 11 yards (first down) - Outside run again, got the corner and made a nice cut. Moved it upfield quickly.

3 3:27 13 - 14 1st-and-10 opp 40 rushed for 7 yards - Blast left. Just moved it upfield and took what they gave him.

4 9:38 20 - 14 1st-and-10 own 47 rushed for 3 yards - I formation, 2TE. Just took it up the middle again. Packers are in the midst of a long clock killing drive and that's what he did here.

4 8:58 20 - 14 2nd-and-7 opp 50 rushed for 2 yards - Shotgun, 3WR. Draw play, not much doing. Defensive tackle was not fooled at all.

He showed me on a few runs that he is more willing to dish out punishment than I remember early on in the season. I'm thinking if he gets carries like he did when Starks was out previously, meaning 15-22 per game, his best game is ahead of him. I can see him rushing for close to 100 this weekend vs. Detroit as Green Bay tries to neutralized Suh & Co. Then you have the Urlacher-less Bears the following week in what will no doubt be a fierce divisional battle. Follow that up with a very nice Tennessee matchup. You are looking at potentially a top scorer. The stars are lining up for him.

I like your optimism about Green for the playoff run.

I picked up Bradshaw and think he will do as well if not better.

GB has a healthier QB and similar WR's/TE's. They rely less on their run than Pitts.

What do you think? Keep Bradshaw or add Green instead?

If you're in the playoffs you likely have better options, but I agree he is a decent flex spot start for someone like a Harvin owner. High floor but limited ceiling.

While I appreciate your enthusiasm for such a mediocre player, is there any reason this couldn't go in the thread on page 1 that is already dedicated to the Green/Starks/Grant discussion?

Bradshaw by a mile, without Brown vulturing TDs his value has never been higher this season and 2/3 good match ups ahead with NO and BAL

This is the Alex Green thread and titled as such. The other thread is titled "James Starks, season potentially over." If I were to log onto the boards and go a search for the Alex Green, I don't really know if that would be the one I'd open. This thread isn't concerning itself with James Starks, like the other one is. This is the Alex Green thread. I also didn't want to put this in the 24 other threads that didn't contain Alex Green in the title. HTH. :hophead:

This.If you are depending on Green to produce, you should be worried, imo.

Sorry I had a brain freeze or was it my 5th cup of coffee? I have Dwyer of Pitts. as my pickup. Dwyer or Green??

If you're a regular of this board (or any other fantasy sport board) you would realize there's often a lot of related discussion. If you didn't want to join that discussion, putting it in the 4 page Alex Green thread (http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=662997&st=0) would have been a good idea. I say this not to discourage you from bringing certain potential value plays to our attention, but only because there are a lot of criticisms about Green's play that were already brought up in that thread. It's the same year, so it's unlikely his talent has suddenly changed in the span of a month. While his situation is again favorable, it's not the first time he's been given a chance. Glancing at well thought opinions/facts/etc on this player from just a few weeks back would help us form an opinion on this guy moving forward. :2cents:

What if you aren't really depending on it so much as hoping he catches fire. Guys do it all the time in the NFL. Maybe you have a middling option or a brutal matchup coming up. FBG has him in their Top 20 this week. Is every team supposed to have two different Top 10 options to start? Maybe you had Harvin or MJD and need a good flex option. Lots of scenarios where Green could come in and help you win the money.

He was getting the carries but faced some pretty tough competition earlier in the year. Now he appears to be running with some better power and the line, with all the injuries, is not the same. Maybe the guys that are getting Aaron Rodgers killed back there are actually more adept at run blocking. Green was seeing a lot of daylight this past Sunday.

While I'm not wild about this guy, I can definitely see certain situations where he's worth gambling on. This time of year a lot of owners start getting desperate for a warm body at the position. And a guy who is starting has loads of potential value. I've certainly put him back on my watch list, thanks for the heads up.

Once they signed Grant, my interest in him was gone. Maybe he blows up and shows something that he's yet to show in his young career, but I'm not willing to start him in my fantasy playoffs.

Green might be an ok flex option or an injury fill-in, but I don't see him going nuts from here on out. The Packers RB corps just hasn't been that productive overall as a unit this year. And he probably will have to split the workload at least a little bit.

If he goes 22 carries for 95 and a touchdown this week, it will be hard to sit him next week (unless of course you have better options). I have him on two rosters. I was fortunate enough to get the bye week in both those leagues. I'm taking a wait and see approach. If I had to play this week, I'd start him over the following players. I'm not advocating starting him over Fred Jackson or Marshawn Lynch here. I just think he is going to produce ahead in the top 15-20 range. Define ok Flex Option or Injury Fill-in. I don't think he's going to challenge the top guys either. But definitely better than many of the RBBC guys out there and a handful of starters.

Likely not in the Top 25 backs, if that helps.

Ok, I disagree. I say he's got a good shot at making the top 20.

In standard scoring leagues, on a weekly basis, the Packers had a RB rank in the Top 10 once and in the Top 20 twice. Two other weeks they had a back in the 21-25 range. And in the 7 remaining weeks they did not have a back in the Top 25. Guess we'll have to wait and see . . .

Lead backs have averaged approximately 18 ppg against Detroit this season in PPR. I'm thinking about 20 for 75 rushing, 3 for 15 receiving and about a .4 chance of a touchdown. So even if he doesn't score I'm thinking around 10 fantasy points. His upside is limited to be sure but he does seem to have the speed to break one. Normally there are a few long rushes factored in but for whatever reason Green hasn't really busted anything yet. His season long is 41 and he only has two carries over 20 yards. Hopefully he can find some daylight this weekend.

Barring him breaking a long run...I see it as:

17 carries - 75 yards 3 receptions for 20 yards 0 TDs

Grant:

6 carries - 20 yards 0 TDs

Kuhn

4 carries 10 yards 0 TDs

Cobb

2 carries 20 yards 0 rushing TDs

Then again...I supposedly have an agenda...so this is all likely bogus.

I'm a little surprised there is not more of the infamous "I'm starting Alex Green over ____________" speak.

Are people starting him? If so, over who? I've got to chose between Green, RBush and Avery for a flex and am leaning toward Green but am curious who others are sitting in his favor?

Green isn't even a flex option in standard leagues, not even close. If you're interested in him, it'd be in 1PPR, in which case I have no problem with someone labeling him a 25-36th ranked RB on a weekly basis. As I pointed out in another thread though, I'd have a hard time relying on any GB RB in the playoffs. I can see a team who snuck into the playoffs being forced to start him for one reason or another, but for the most part, competent contenders don't really have a use for him.

Full disclosure, I snuck into the playoffs in my one league and due to some more injuries, I may be forced to start him. In short, I'm in trouble.

Deciding between Green and J. Bell. While Green may not be good he is in line for plenty of touches. A missed tackle here or there and you never know. I see a floor of 50 combined yds and 2 receptions.

Green has been awful all year. Not sure what you are watching. There's a reason he keeps getting demoted.
Watch the Vikings game and report back.
I, too, snuck into the playoffs and might be forced to start him, I just don't trust Bush vs the 49ers, but also have Avery as a flex option. Saber, can you give some insight on why you are a little high on him? By the default of him being the 'starter' in GB or do you see some talent in dude?

He ran with some abandon finally. I think had had 58 yards on 12the carries which is solid. I think the sample size is too small to make much of a determination on his talent level.

I think you are all deluding yourselves. Green is a two down back at best that will get yanked at the goal line by either Rodgers or Kuhn. Have you seen anything this year that says he is capable of tearing off a long one? Me either

Is it so hard to imagine that Green gets stuffed a couple times or misses a blocking assignment and they trudge out good old reliable Grant to protect Rodgers? They seemed awfully anxious to get him back after Starks went down.

Start him if you must, but expecting anything more than 60 yards and no catches is crazy.

In a standard 12 team league, you would only consider an RB2 as a flex? Is your league that unbalanced? If the top 24 RBs are STARTINg who do you use at flex then? Does the same apply for WRs? Only WRs ranked in the top 24 should be used as flex players?

You missed some things in what you bolded...I bolded something else for you as far as what he was saying.

Green came from Hawaii. His strength is in the passing game and although he is big, he hasn't played big until last week. I would be shocked if he was held under 10 PPR points this week.

Maybe last week was a sign that he might be rounding into form? Remember he tore his ACL last year and may have been playing tentative at the start of the season. Maybe he feels confident in his knee now.

Great point. That had completely slipped my mind.

Ground is bare right now. As long as the wind isn't a factor, I am not concerned with snow

I have him over Kerley at flex in a deep league. Dwyer, Bryce in already.
this was my decision also. I left Kerley in but still might change it. return yardage league also (though I'm not sure if Kerley is still returning punts).eta: I look at others rankings when I don't have a good feel or am on the fence. Fantasy Pros "Start/Sit" had Kerley favored for a flex spot over Green by about 75-25, but if I recall both Maurile Tremblay and Sigmund Bloom like Green over Kerley.

:hot: should have switched to Green.
