Kicking is why I will never ever win at this game. If I am at the 30 and its 4th and ?? I know I will not make the FG so I often punt and try to pin the other team inside the 5.
i was the same way as you, but i figured it out! it's really quite simple and you'll probably laugh but here it is... don't accept the default location of the arrow. angle it down a little for more distance. it increases the chance that it will get blocked obviously, but you'll get more distance.i think we get used to not moving the arrow on XP's and they look like they'll go a mile, but it's different for FG's.yes i know. obvious.

Ok, so then how the mother#### do kick without it having the flight patern of a boom-a-rang?
it's all in the thumb. straight back, straight forward. it's hard because the thumb naturally moves up and to the right.if your early or late in the progression it will throw it off too.
So there is no meter, you just need to know when to do it? I kicked an extra point last night that circled around and hit the ref behind the kicker.
the one thing I hate about this game is kicking. My kickoffs are lucky to make it to the 20,my longest FG is 28 yards,I miss XPs and I'm lucky if I can punt it 25 yards. If I was bad at kicking instead of awful I'd win alot more or at least not get blown out as much.

read my post. if distance is your problem, the answer is there.

nope. pull back to snap the ball and start the kicker animation. keep holding back until he plants his foot then push forward.
####I've been pulling back and instantly pushing up. :yucky:

hey No. 16. another one bites the dust. :(
Heh I'll be fine. Another player I picked mostly cause he was a Raider great. Helped that he was studly. Before I gave up on Marcus Allen I had a mostly Raider team.
I've been thinking of trying Allen-why didn't you like him?
He doesn't break the 1st tackle very often, at least when I played with him.

good to know

my mind is going a hundred miles an hour trying to figure out which direction I want to take my team. do i try something new or stick with what I know? do I go gold QB or try Bernie Kosar? do i want to be a running team, or a passing team? TE or no TE?

Well I can honestly say that I have not played with any of my teams (other then my off line seasons) more then 3 times. I love this game because of the ability to build so many different teams. Its a compulsion for me I guess.

As for kicking the best way to practice is to actually kick FGs online during game situations.

Buddy... punting when you're at the 30 won't make you a better player. Instead take the chance and kick that FG. You may miss it and it may cost you the game, but in the long run you'll eventually be able to nail that kick. You just have to actually PAY ATTENTION to kicking FGs unlike in other versions. Kinda like bowling where you have to be totally aware of what your body is doing.

Kicking tips - pretty simple actually

1) Pay attention to the kicker animation - when he cocks his leg back pullback, then push up as straight and as fats as you can.

2) The arrow does not point directly where the ball will end up.... it's hard to explain but I think of it as more of the angle/direction the leg will follow through. So if you are on the right hash mark, with a right footed kicker you want to pull the arrow towards the left a little bit, however if you are on the right hash mark with a left footed kicker you want to point the arrow straight or just a little bit to the left.

3) The aside from wind kick distance is based on timing and the speed of your "UP" flick. So even if the timing is perfect if your up flick is slow it won't go that far. You gotta jam fast. With a generic kicker the furthest FG I've hit is 52 yards, regardless of the wind direction you should eventually be able to knock down FGs up to 46 yards with ease. Kickoffs with a generic kick usually land between the 5 - 10 yard line. Just some goals fo ryou guys.

4) Go to to PRACTICE MODE. I was sucky at kicking until I actually practiced off line to learn the general timing, how to aim, and get a more natural feel. 30 minutes or less was probably all I spent knocking down FGs from all positions on the field. Once you learn to kick offline, the only thing you have to adjust is the timing when kicking online.

5) PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE!

I'm having the same problem which is why I've only drafted D so far.

:finger:Whenever you want to get the #### kicked out of you, let me know.

After that's done, we can play each other in All Pro.

Played dude last night. He's very good for a noob. I made the mistake of taking it light on him for part of the first game. He won.

I beat him the second game, but I think he found his new weapon.

Dude is probably going to pick

Were just waiting on mesmashu, hes out to lunch.

I say we all send him a PM telling him to hurry.

when i played bruce, i went for it on 4th and inches from the 30 yard line cause i was feared of the FG.
Bruce did this last night, and with reason 30+ and against the wind. However, it did lead to a Lloyd INT. :drive:
If I am into enemy territory, it's rare that I won't go for it if it's 4th and less then 5.
They need to add a setting like Madden so that you can't go for it on fourth save for a few situations.

I just realized I'll be out of town from Friday noonish (EST) thru Sunday morning. If I can get 4 picks in by then I'll just fill my roster after the draft with the scraps and hope for the best.

I thought Madden let you try it but made it almost immposible to convert?

Yea me and a few buddies came up with it YEARS ago, back on Tecmo Super Bowl. We had to try and keep our friends from killing themselves and quiting games because they would get stomped because they always went for it on fourth down.We call it the 4th & 5 rule.

4th & 5 (or more) = punt (Fake FG's & Punts are also an option, but they must be the designed fake punt/FG plays)

4th & 4 (or less) = go for it.

Down by 17 (or more) = all bets are off, go for it!

All this ends in the fourth quarter, as long as you are down. (Team ahead must punt)

Another twist we added was that you could go for it inside the opponents 40 yard line. That's the sorta no mans land where it's too long for a FG and almost a waste to punt.

Seems sorta complicated, but I guess we have been doing it so long it's second nature.

Not onlie. Online you didn't even get the option to go for it if it was 4th an 3 at your own 20 yard line. I forget the exact situations, but they were there.
