*** OFFICIAL Amazing Race 36 Thread - Mostly South America Edition *** (1 Viewer)

I've been scuba diving and snorkeling many times and would have had problems with that challenge. Not sure how people can remember all that under those conditions.

Still rooting for Derek and Claire.

I felt so bad for David. With his water phobia, after he got through the roadblock he must have felt he was over it. Then they hit him with a worse one on the volcano eruptions task. Brutal. I agree that any team could win this. All have won legs and only Emily's injury seems like a problem (although she's powered through it so far). Should be a good finish.

Pretty good final. I was especially glad to see Emily and Molly power through to a second place finish. Best story in some time. Derek and Claire weren't my favorite but they were likable and pretty consistent during the race. Worthy winners. Apparently, next season will go back to the original format.

Speaking of Emily’s knee injury…..has there been update to know the exact problem?

I searched and tried to find out but couldn’t find anything

Weird. I like the new format. Much more energy in the legs. Though the jump from Iceland to Nashville was a bit strange, the rest felt fine.

OK with the winners, though Claire reminded me more and more of a young Kim Wexler every episode.

Emily said she actually had a fractured Tibia. It is fully healed now and she said she has been doing rehab. It's amazing that she was able to walk and run on that. She thought they finished only about 10-15 minutes behind the winners at the mat.

How did she break it? I don't recall what she did when she got hurt.

Here's what I've heard so far about the Amazing Race 35.

For the second straight season, the race will start outside of the U.S. This time the starting line is in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Apparently. the Race charter plane is back meaning no ticket buying and alternate flights drama.

It looks like the race will be entirely within South America, similar to the all-Europe race in season 34. Reported stops are Guatape and Medellin, Columbia; Santiago, Chile; Cordoba, Argentina; Montevideo, Uruguay; Bridgetown Barbados; and Puerto Plata and Rio Yasica, Dominican Republic. The finish line is reported to be Philadelphia.

The race was filmed between and October and November of 2022. Although Survivor is reported to begin on March 1, 2023, they have not yet put the Race on the broadcast schedule. It may be a quick replacement show depending on how other Spring shows do.

I was just looking into that over the weekend. Hopefully sooner rather than later. I read another speculation that it could be as far as the fall.

Also read that the wife of that Kevin Hart looking dude is pregnant.

They talked constantly on the show about wanting to start a family ASAP, so this is good but expected news.

Spanish speakers going to have a huge edge.

CBS has thrown us the old curve-ball with the next Amazing Race. Originally, Season 35 was going to start in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and travel mostly through South America before finishing in Philadelphia. But CBS then filmed another season during this past summer and it is reported that it will be released as season 35 with the previous South America version held back for season 36. So...

The Amazing Race 35 will now start in Los Angeles beneath the Hollywood sign. Legs in India, Slovenia, Ireland, Sweden, Thailand, and Germany are reported. The Race will return to commercial flights instead of charter planes (Yea!) and all episodes will be 90 minutes long. The premiere is set for September 27 at 9:30 et.

Aha! I have a friend who lives in an apartment building on Beachwood Drive, leading up to the Hollywood sign, and said it looked like the Amazing Race was filming there one day a while back

The teams have been announced. Thirteen teams this time. Why thirteen? Because there will be no Non-elimination legs this time. Someone gets eliminated every week. The teams are:

Jocelyn Chao and Victor Limary, both 49, are a married couple who work as grocery store managers in Albuquerque, N.M.

Liam, 23, and Yeremi Hykel, 24, are brothers from Cheyenne, Wyo., and San Marcos, Tex. Liam is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, while Yeremi is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

Morgan, 31, and Lena Franklin, 29, are sisters from New York City and Los Angeles. Both sisters work as marketing executives.

Todd and Ashlie Martin (both 38) are a married couple from Chino, Calif. Todd works as a special education teacher, while Ashlie is a hospitality account manager.

It's back. Nice to see no non-elimination legs. They always seemed a little too non-random (even though they claimed to be pre-determined). I was surprised that the veteran brothers (Liam & Yeremi) didn't do better. I'm liking the chances of the Franklin brothers and Jocelyn & Victor. Even Robbin & Chelsea appear to be pretty competitive. However Joe & Ian and Morgan & Lena look like hot messes. Who knew that Bangkok was the City of Angels?

Not quite sure I understand how they are going to do the U-Turn? I caught that it was mandatory and that it was based on voting. So what happens if the team with the most votes has already gone past? Although maybe they will do it in a way that you can see who hasn't come by yet. So that way you know you are voting for someone behind you. That's not how it's been done in the past though. Part of it was you were either guessing, unless you had knowledge of a team being behind you.

Maybe they vote to see who gets U-Turned in the next leg? Not sure how it would work otherwise.

Anna Leigh went across that high wire like a race car.
I'm not sure about her dad, Steve, but she looks really strong.

In season 31, in Switzerland, they had all of the teams vote for who would get U-turned. It was a live vote in random order and the top two voted teams had to do both sides of the Detour. I recall that Rachel was pissed that they were one of the U-turned teams. Loved it.

Wasn't it 8 or so of the 13 teams that couldn't solve the word scramble for over an hour? As soon as it popped up, I paused the TV to see how long it would take me to solve. I figured it out in about 5 minutes and my son solved it in 2-3 minutes - both without paper or anything. Not a good start as that was a comparatively very easy puzzle compared to others I've seen on previous seasons.

Who cares that Bangkok was the city of angels. They were in Los Angeles, which is also the city of angels. That was not difficult at all.

The teams are already beginning to sort themselves out. The top four or five teams should be around to the end. Jocelyn & Victor will probably come back to the pack once they leave southeast Asia. That language advantage is huge. It looked like Steve might pass out from the heat and humidity but he bounced back well. It seems like the bottom four teams or so are so bad that they will be the next to go in some order.

Interesting third episode. I guess they never said that they wouldn't do a "keep racing" leg when they said they wouldn't have any non-elimination legs. Pretty sneaky. What a total waste of an Express Pass. Why wait to use it until you are well through the task? The girls actually ended up dropping two spots. Kudos to Steve & Anna Leigh for finding the 5:45 pass and moving up. Joel & Garret and Joe & Ian killed the flight booking to move up too. I'm glad to see the return to commercial flights to add back that challenge. On the other hand, Jocelyn & Victor and Greg & John had terrible legs and sank like stones. That plastic detour looked brutal.

Those teams on the late bus have got to be exhausted

So much for the language advantage for Jocelyn & Victor. It just goes to show that even if you win a couple of legs in a row, one bad day can get you eliminated. Nice bounce back for Robbin & Chelsea and Liam & Yeremi.

Next week is the anonymous U-turn. That could be brutal in India in June to July. I'm thinking it will be Steve & Anna Leigh.

The U-turn against Steve & Anna Leigh might have worked if they didn't have a good hour lead on basically every other team. Sorry to see Liam & Yeremi go. I thought at the start that they profiled as a winning team. They just didn't turn out to be all that strong.

I was so confused on the game play here by those that voted for Steve and Anna. When there are so many teams left, voting for who you think is the top team with a huge time advantage seems 180 from what you want to do.

And the idea one contestant had (I think the son of the deaf father), in which they simply wanted to remove the 1.5 hour head start is also kind of a waste because the game is going to remove that lead multiple times in the form of either airports or bunch ups waiting for something to open.

Does anyone remember who Liam and Yeremi voted for? If they voted for Steve and Anna, they may have voted themselves out of the game.

Yeah, didn’t make sense to me. Sure, there is a chance it may eliminate a strong team but if they hadn’t left their clue, which was an egregious miss - of course you have to turn in receipts, they would have finished right next to the top teams. It really was a waste because even with a stupid mistake and doing both tasks, they still weren’t close to the bottom.

Yeah, that whole thing about needing to turn in their receipts BEFORE they could do the bricks seemed kind of off to me. In a non-uturn leg, any team can switch at any time. So, what changes with the uturn. They have to COMPLETE both tasks, but unless there is specific verbiage that says one task MUST be complete in it's entirety before the next task can be completed, I don't see why they could not have done it the way they tried. They were still going to turn in their receipts at some point.

Now that Andrea & Malaina are gone, the race gets really competitive. Only the squabbling sisters (Morgan & Lena) haven't finished in the top three on at least one leg. I think the top three teams are Anna Leigh & Steve, Greg & John, and Rob & Corey. Todd & Ashlie seem middle of the pack. The rest are probably gone in the next three weeks. However, one bad decision, like that hilarious ferry ride and money changing, can send you packing. By the way, how far behind must they have been? Phil looked pretty lonely with the party over and everybody gone.

Lots of mistakes by teams last night. It looked like half the teams might be last. I thought that the two dads might keel over and die with all those stairs. Anna Leigh is getting pretty grating with all of her negativity.

Not sure why Steve and Anna Leigh have completely gone off the rails these last few episodes after being so strong at the beginning of the season.

And I really want to go visit Slovenia now. It looks absolutely gorgeous.

I sort of liked her early but geez, she’s an awful person. Fine when they were winning but an unbelievable brat when things go wrong. Doesn’t seem like she’s ever not gotten what she’s wanted. I thought she was going to kill her dad on the stairs. Oops, “we” didn’t see the sign. C’mon, she knew they were in last place, why in the world would she think no one had already gone for the fast pass?

The beard guys are local here in Boise so we've been rooting for them. They're doing a watch party tonight. Hope that doesn't mean they're getting kicked off. I liked the black women, especially the skinny one, she was funny. The black guys look hard to beat but I'd be ok with them winning. Same with the deaf father and son. They're having fun.
My wife picked out the daughter as a ***** very early on and it's really gotten annoying now. Why are you grilling people who U-turned you, as if you aren't supposed to use strategy. She should have accepted it and moved on. And then she rolled her eyes at her father as he was struggling going up the circular staircase. I know we only see a little bit of it but I hope she looks back at this and realizes how awful she was to her father.

He seems like a saint with how he reacts to her. I guess he’s had lots of practice.

At the same time, he (and presumably her mother) probably have a lot to do with why Anna Leigh is this way.

They had perfect weather and created some amazing camera work. Every shot looked spectacular!

However, it was also quite clear that Slovenia allowed Amazing Race to shoot in their country under the conditions that all the contestants had to give high praise for the country to help I assume attract more visitors. It was a bit over the top which made it kind of obvious.

I think Steve is discovering how much of a Princess Anna Leigh is and isn't liking it. Probably have a lot more empathy for her husband when the race is done.

Third leg in a row when it was pretty obvious early on who would be eliminated. Ashlie just took too long to make that wreath. Now we have four pretty competent teams. I was originally thinking that Steve & Anna Leigh would make the final but if there is any kind of a footrace, Steve is toast. How many times did you hear Anna Leigh saying "Dad, come on..." as she was running ahead of him.

It looks like they're going to do some kind of Riverdance in Dublin. There has traditionally been a non-elimination leg at four. Could there be a "keep racing" leg in Ireland?

I really enjoyed Joel and Garrett's Recycling Roadblock, they had so much fun with it.

I can picture Steve lying dead from a heart attack and AnnaLeigh yelling "Hurry up dad, you're slowing us down!"
