If Obama wins Indiana, beyond finishing Hillary, it's a whole new ballgame. The Wright story, IMO is OVER! (Very happy about that.) And it's going to be tough for my guy McCain to win, because I think the Democrats will be unified in November. Somehow, we McCain supporters will have to convince the country that Obama's ideas are plain bad for America. Honestly, I don't like our chances. But that's for another day. For now, I'm happy the Hillary witch is finally dead (I hope!) And congratulations to the people of Indiana and North Carolina for not playing the guilt by association game. Makes me proud to be an American. I'm being completely genuine here.
McCain has had a terrible day also. 26% in NC and 22% in IN voted AGAINST him. His only saving grace is Hillary's meltdown. With Obama possibly losing Clinton supporters and McCain having problems with conservatives and both of them being hugely popular among independents, this will be maybe the most interesting election in American history.

Tim Russert just said that Obama will be the nominee. It's over. He predicts she'll be out tommorow.
I really need to switch over to MSNBC. I find that hard to believe. But I'll be  :tfp: if it happens.
I switched from CNN to MSNBC. Doesn't have the cool maps but has much better analysis, plus that great prediction from Russert.
Pull up Drudge and look at the headline...
Ballsy.
:excited:

how much longer until we know indiana? 20 min? cant stay up much longer, im old.
Could be hours if Gary needs to find more votes.
The fact this can even be debated isn't a good thing. I almost think it's better for Obama if he loses narrowly than this late night Gary return pulling it out. A narrow loss and he's the huge winner tonight. No questions, no issues. If he wins, it changes nothing from being the nominee. However, it just gives an odd feeling to the night.

Gary holding out until they knew what the rest of the county was doing is bad juju. This isn't a time zone thing. They are trying to make a big splash.

Meh. After Bush/Gore in Florida and other states since, the public can understand that it sometimes takes a while to count all of the votes.

Yes, but is there really a reason to report absolutely nothing, 0%, until the other state is almost entirely in? From the interviews I've seen, most cities have already reported their results to the county. The votes have been counted, they just aren't being reported.

Ben Smith's Politico Blog:

Seyfang's estimate: Obama gains 15

Matt Seyfang, a former campaign delegate counter who tracks this stuff for us, e-mails over his estimated margins: Clinton +2 in Indiana, Obama +17, net +15 for Obama.

Seyfang writes:

Lake is still out, but I’m assuming the 1st goes 4-2 for Obama based on surrounding counties that Clinton won. He won’t break the 70 percent he needs for a 5-1 margin. The statewide assumes a 2-point margin for Clinton, still a big question mark with Lake out.

What’s interesting if these numbers hold is that this assures that Obama will win a majority of the 3,253 pledged delegates [excluding Florida and Michigan]. He’s now at 1,494. Under this set of numbers, he picks up 101 for a total of 1,595. A majority is 1,627, so he’s 33 short. If you assume he makes threshold in each of the remaining 24 districts for one delegate and then picks up at least one PLEO and one at-large in each of the 6 remaining contests, he’s at 1,631. The battle for the majority of pledged delegates is over.

Oh, it's lame, but I think the only people that really care are the geeks like us staying up for the final tally.

The Mayor is on the phone now, they're working on getting "new numbers" out tonight so as not to disenfranchise their early voters.

Sounds to me like they had no idea how to do this quickly. Still sort of a back woods operation.

"We're releasing the numbers as they come in". I don't think I'd use that line on television for all to see when there are people on there right now saying that their numbers were reported earlier and haven't been released by the county.

I flipped it to Fox and Hannity is going on and on about Bill Ayres-"Americans don't realize how bad a guy Ayres is" This guy is so annoying! He's just going to keep it up all the way to November. Apparently Wright didn't do it, so let's tie Obama into this former radical that he lives in the same neighborhood in.

Interesting how people start claiming shenanigans and then much of the late vote swings to Clinton.

I stayed up for this? That mayor is either dirty or a moron - glad Obama didn't win that way...
It's the best result for Obama at this point in the night. He's secure in the nomination and nobody will call the results into question from Gary as to them swinging the election.

That margin shift was almost exactly the sum of the cities the Mayor from Hammond read out hours earlier on CNN. Sounds like for whatever reason they waited until all of Gary was in and reported and held back on the ones from hours earlier.
