Well its been a nice recovery in the polls, no doubt in part due to the economic crisis. But the first debate looms and there I don't see how Obama can win this. We're going to get Saddleback again. Obama will mutter as he gets lost in his train of thought, trying to be nuanced but coming off milquetoast. McCain will be decisive, strong, and engaging. The ivory tower crowd will gush that Obama won, and McCain will surge in the polls. That's when the democrats go into panic mode.
I thought McCain was supposed to start surging in the polls right after he dominated the first debate.

When I watched the debates from my new home, it was clear Obama won the debate. Pic of new home

I've seen a lot of good speeches by Obama...but he really brought it here. He's fired up after the debate, and he has some solid talking points and the momentum in his favor. Keep the ball rolling Obama.

Remember the scene in Running Scared, the good one from '86, where Gregory Hines drains the free throw and then he and Billy Crystal do the little victory dance. The only thing that would make that speech any better would be if Barack and Joey did that exact same thing after it. That #### was hot!Deuteronomy (1:15)

I am a democratic supporter and in my opinion McCain clearly won the 1st debate. He exposed Obama's lack of knowledge and experience in National Security and foreign policy. To be honest, Obama's lack of knowledge is starting to scare me.

Then we obviously weren't watching the same debate. Please give us some examples of this alleged "exposing of Obama".

No McCain points for these forums. Try here.

Do some real research. Look at the facts. You will find that Palin "makes things happen", she's a doer, not an underachieving talker like Obama. Take some time and really research Obama's career. You might be surprised to see that the man has virtually never finished anything he started and has underachieved most of his career. I, for one, don't want that in my president. Be careful people, be very careful.

I'm beginning to suspect that Kai's Hero is actually Hilary Clinton.

I'm confused. Are you saying Kai's Hero is really Gopher State? Or Gopher State is really Hilary Clinton?

Wow. If that doesn't inspire you, you need to check your pulse. Thanks for sharing Clayton. That's about as good as it gets, IMO.

Yep, that last sentence, where he said "The truth is, through 90 minutes of debate, John McCain had a lot to say about me, but he had nothing to say about you." Was the most effective part of the whole thing, as I listened to it.The delivery of that line, the pause afterwards, the way the crowd took it...and the underlying truth of that point, that McCain didn't talk about middle class, didn't talk about the average american, doesn't seem to be focused on them, really really hit the nail on the head with the difference between John McCain and Barack Obama in this election, and in that first debate.

We now have two days of McCain's post-debate surge under our belts.

Even Fox has Obama up - and by higher than the average.

:) I loved the rolling up the sleeves as he was talking about working together--a nice allusion to a metaphorical rolling up of the sleeves (which he mentioned near the end of the speech). This was unquestionably the best speech I've seen him give. He seemed utterly relaxed and confident as well as passionate. Gave both the bf and I chills when we watched it.

What the hell is wrong with you people?
We have the apparently uncommon problem of wanting to elect a leader who is strong on the economy in this time of crisis. Someone who is stable, who didn't say "The economy is fundamentally strong" two weeks before suspending his campaign due to the fact that our economy was in a crisis. We want someone who cares about the middle class enough to mention them in a debate when talking about the economy and its impact. We want someone who is steady under fire, and doesn't just go from one extreme to another, looking to score political points like McCain seems to be doing. Did you hear today he's blaming Pelosi for the breakdown in talks, after touting the bipartisanship of the effort? There is nothing wrong with us.What the hell is wrong with you people? People who are OK with a Vice Presidential candidate being chosen who isn't ready to be VP in times of calm, much less the difficult times our country faces in the years to come. What is wrong with you people where one week McCain is praising the bipartisanship and the next he's blaming democrats for the failure. What's wrong with you people supporting a man who spent his lifetime advocating deregulation now suddenly finds himself having to promote the cause of regulation to fix the economic problems our country faces. We need a leader, not a see-saw that moves back and forth depending on the political climate.

What's the deal with Battleground Tracking? They always have McCain up.

They do their polling at restaurants, but only between 4:30 and 5:15.

Obama now up in Virginia. (Likely voter polls)
