***Official Bengals vs. Cowboys Game Thread*** (1 Viewer)

Did Jerry Rice just flip off the camera (accidentally) during his interview?

Halftime injury report:

Titus Ryan has a broken left thumb, Alex Barron has a right ankle injury, and TE Kevin Brock has an injured left ankle.

No further word on Phillips.
Here's some that you missed:Cincinnati Bengals S Chris Crocker (ankle) left the team's preseason game Sunday, Aug. 8, with a right ankle injury and will not return to the game, reports ESPN.com's James Walker.

Bengals FB Brian Leonard carried to lockerroom to be evaluated. He wasn't putting any weight on left foot

After watching that first half, what do you guys think about Jones and Barber? Where would you draft each one of them?
I'm thinking round 6 for both of them. I never like messing with a RBBC though. I am in a keeper league and thinking about aiming for Barber with the intention that he will be playing for somebody else next year.

I cover the Cowboys.TE John Phillips has a sprained right knee. More information on rehab likely won't be known until back in Dallas.

I believe there was a Matt Jones siting?
I don't understand why he isn't the #3 receiver... Sure he half-asses it in practice but come on the dude is 6'6 1/2 and athletic, just throw it up to him and he'll go get it.
My sentiments exactly. Are you a Matt Jones dynasty league owner also?
Nah don't have a dynasty team. If I did maybe I would stash him away. I've watched him play a lot and it always pissed me off how they utilized him. They never used him to go deep in Jacksonville (prob cause of Garrard's arm). Also, it seemed like they didn't try to get him involved enough in Jacksonville.

Was there a Tashard Choice sighting tonight? (Dynasty owner asking here)

I like him in that offense, after Barber is gone (after this season??)

Choice went 7-41
Did you watch it, or just see the box score? Just curious about your insights...
Choice looked in midseason form. Aggressive entry to the line, shifting fluidly, broke a few arm tackles, has good burst to the outside.Cowboys are very fortunate that THIS is our 3rd best option at the position.

I saw him and he looked good when he was in there. The problem for Choice is that he didn't sniff the field when the majority of the starters were out there. So you're going to get some stat lines where he is 7 for 41......and he'll look pretty good doing it but that's not going to get the job done in fantasy football. He's a good handcuff or you can draft him and hope (please don't hope too hard) that Felix Jones or Barber gets hurt which is a possibility since that was the case at times last year.

I think the Cowboys are going to score a ton of points this year and blow some people out. Choice may get his chances later in the game, and even some touchdowns.

The Bengals are actually a pretty good pass defending team. I thought the pass protection by Doug Free and the Dallas starting line was solid. Not that Cinci was sending all kinds of blitzes but the Dallas line did what was asked of them for the most part.

The running game....hard to tell. Didn't see a lot out of Felix Jones, he did fumble inside the 5 into the Cinci endzone that didn't count because Cinci was offisides. He didn't really impress me tonight, but he's dangerous. Barber did look a step quicker than he did at times last year. He could be a sleeper pick and solid RB2/flex player, especially in good matchups.

Roy Williams made a nice catch on 3rd and long. More than the catch, it was important to see that Romo would throw the ball to him on 3rd and 12.....and he caught it. Miles Austin will have a big year if he's healthy, just too strong, has good hands and you can tell Romo has that trust in him. Didn't see much from Witten, I do wonder if there's enough balls to go around for him to have a huge year. I mean, he'll always get something but I wonder if he's still good for 80 plus receptions and close to 1000 yeards. I just drafted him in a 1.5 points per reception league over V. Davis, I'll remember that pick because I'm not sure he'll outperform Davis this year.

Dallas Defense looked strong. I've been touting that D since midseason last year. I think they're actually one of the most underrated defenses in football because I think they're just a hair behind the Jets but they don't get near the talk the Jets do even though most would agree that the Cowboys are a "good" defense. IF the Cowboys go anywhere this year, it'll be because of a dominant defense.

Buehler, PK - I'll be surprised if this guy lasts the year, I really will. He'll make the team because he can kick the ball into the endzone just about everytime. The guy can kick 60 yard field goals but he'll miss a bunch of 40 plus field goals along the way. He attempted a 49 yarder tonight and it was hammered way to the left. I bummed they can't find a kicker.

That's certainly a possibility. You have to be pretty desperate though to start a guy because you're predicting that one team blows another one out and then he gets TD's after that. Make sure you bet 1000 dollars on the Cowboys when you do that because obviously they'd cover with ease each time that happens.

So how did Carson Palmer look - seems like he went to TO a lot and they were a bit out of synch - to be expected especially with a decent Dallas d - what I am watching for is Palmers arm...did he throw with any zip or was it the weak wobblers that went all over the place we saw down the stretch last year...he is the QB I am eyeing who can move from backup to solid starter if he looks good in pre season.

Carson didn't show anything to shed the doubters of his arm strength last night. The T.O. thing will work itself out when they have more time together so I wouldn't worry about that.

Any one else considering selling high at this point considering his arm seemingly hasn't changed despite the added time since the injury?

How high is Palmer? To me his upside is a high end NO. 1 at best and I have him at QB 12, ahead of Farve. If he's back, then to me that pushes Palmer into the Qb2's of the world, most likely where he deserves to be. If you can find someone who thinks this guy is going to be a top 8 QB this year, by all means trade him.FWIW, I don't think last night proved anything. It was the first preseason game of the year, both teams have above average defenses. Palmer's performance last night will not sway where I had him ranked before that game.

If Palmers arm is ok then I would think he is a lock to be top 10 - while taking him much later - those weapons should have him putting up great numbers.....the arm is the key for me anyway

Per Bryan Broaddus, reporter for 103.3 FM ESPN and ESPN Dallas:

Hearing some bad news from Cowboys camp. The MRI did show a MCL tear for TE John Phillips.

The Bengals zone blocking o-line looked pretty decent in the run game - they opened up some holes for Benson & Co. It was really the pass game where they struggled.

I went back and watched every play of the first couple series for the Bengals and a few times. The Bengals did fine on the fist couple of plays, where the Cowboys played vanilla and just rushed straight ahead. However, shortly after that, the Cowboys started running stunts and sugaring rushers. Once they started doing that, the Bengals had tons of confusion on their OL.

There was only one play where pressure was placed on Palmer from the tackle actually getting beat on the play. The rest were all confusion on the OL. There were a couple plays with 3 linemen on one guy, with the other coming unblocked. The good news is it's all correctable, and I was a bit surprised to see the Cowboys sugaring blitzes in the first preseason game. Still, it's alarming.

I unfortunately didn't get to watch many Bengals games last year, so I'm not sure if they had similar problems in pass protection. If they did, it looks like they haven't improved much over the offseason yet.

It's definitely something to watch over the next few weeks.

Yep, Phillips is gone for the year.

Do MCL tears usually keep people out for a season? Thought this was normally a 6-8 week injury... Or are they putting him on IR because they need the roster space for someone else?
