QB Testaverde Sat out Again, QB Carr Likely To Start

Stan Olson, Charlotte Observer - [Full Article]

Carolina Panthers veteran QB Vinny Testaverde sat out his third straight practice Friday. Unlike Wednesday, when he rode on an equipment cart, Testaverde walked back to the stadium from the practice fields and looked comfortable doing so. Suffering from a strained Achilles tendon, he is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Tennessee. Because Testaverde hasn't practiced all week however, expect QB David Carr to be the starter. Carr said his sore back has improved daily.

We all know the motto "always start em", but let's talk about this for a second. Where does Steve Smith realistically rank this week at Tennenssee with Carr under center? The only possible chance for Smith to score this week is on a 3 yard slant that he takes the distance. The Titans could potentially make Carr look worse than his worst day as a Texan back there. I've got Steve on the bench and I can't see myself taking him off it right now.

Please convince me otherwise...

I think they need to force feed him on the quick slants and bubble screen plays. He can easily take one of those to the house. (FWIW I'm starting him over S. Holmes....)

Not to promote injury here, but I doubt Carr will make it through the whole game. Tennessee's defense should have a field day, despite Carolina's 4-0 road record.

I'm starting Stevie over Cotchery this week although I'm feeling VERY uneasy about the decision. I've convinced myself that the week I sit Smith will be the week he explodes. I think Cotchery would be the safer play with Smith being the guy with the higher ceiling.

Please sit him this week.I think Carr will realize what Vinny and the rest of the world realized long ago...if you aren't that good, just throw it to Steve Smith. The biggest thing holding them back is the injuries...once Carr gets a full week of practice with Smith, they may start to look a little better.

If you believe that, I have this bridge you might be interested in....

I'm having a hard time starting Smith over Jennings, Crayton, and Kevin Curtis. I never thought I'd be in this situation... I just have so little faith in the turd that is David Carr.
