"OFFICIAL" Colts vs. Cowboys thread... (1 Viewer)

for dynasty purposes mainly I guess:

I don't know how much playing time Roy Hall had at OSU, I honestly don't think it was much behind Ginn/Gonzalez/etc,

but he looks like the real deal (as has been touted out of Colts camp). He's had 3 looks with 2 receptions (that I saw),

he's playing the classic Reggie Wayne role - 2 receptions on short curls: clean routes, caught the ball with his hands away

from body. He was thrown 1 long pass where he had nice seperation, but Sorgi was hurried and overthrew.

----

also, finally something positive from Barber - short reception in open field leads to ankle breaking juke on Colts safety.

Too bad the big gain was called back on penalty. Next play Barber has a 10 yard reception over the middle. Next play

Barber busts a draw for 15 or so. (see I don't hate MB3 after all)

Stats finally up on NFL.com. No catches for Witten but 3 for Fasano. JJ only 2 rushesBarber - 7 rushes for 16 ydsManning 0 for 2Addai - rush for 4 ydsAre these right??
I am almost positive Witten caught one on that rollout (see my earlier post) play. But it could've beenFasano, Buck called it as a reception to "All-star TE Witten" I believe

No, those are wrong...Witten and JJ were given the vet treatment. A couple plays and shut it down. Barber is getting "too much" work for comfort if you ask me.On another note, rookie Doug Free has just had a very impressive drive at LT. He sprung Barber on a nice run and stoned "61" on passing downs.

more notes:

1) all 2nd string or deeper on both sides now

2) Barber still looks undecisive, too dancey, pedestrian, whatever ... in short, he looks like poop

3) Cowboys first and second line (which I imagine will be mixed all season long) has held up very, very well against the Colts 1st/2nd string D
MB3 ADP come on down!!!!I'll take my chances with a RB who scored 10+ TDs in 2006 if his ADP slides...

6) Colts D overall isn't any worse than last year (regular season),
Is that possible?
Well, technically they did lose a bunch of starters (Harper, June, Booger, etc) - and that doesn't appear to have affected them at all.
Exactly my point. An amazing and improbable playoff run notwithstanding, their D sucked badly (again) last year. IMO the only serious loss of the starters was Harper.
Well, many people credit the playoff run stopping to improved play from Booger (in shape, adjusted to new situation) and the re-insertion of Rob Morris (at WLB instead of MLB I believe). So standing up decently (ETA: decently for the Colts) against the run after losing Booger is the main thing I was watching for. As well as corner play since they lost Harper and David, but going into the season I fully expected Jackson and Hayden to have no problem replacing Harper and David.

final thoughts (I'm not paying close attention for the 2nd half)

MB3 had moments against 1st and 2nd string where he looked average at best. Picked things up

after that though, maybe it just took him a bit to get into the flow of the game. So take earlier

MB3 criticism with a grain of salt (in case you believe that preseason means much).

Cowboys D stood up good against the run, had trouble vs the pass though. They called plenty of

blitzes but didn't really get alot of pressure. Colts receivers didn't have much trouble getting open.

Romo looked very composed and accurate, but Colts hardly pressured him at all. Fasano showed

signs of eating into Witten's production if they share the field or playing time.

Most happy about: Rookie DT Ed Johnson looks very promising to me. And they need it. Also, much better special teams coverage.

Least happy about: Colts pass coverage was shaky - De De Dorsey seemed to slip too much.

Losing David was no big loss but again Harper was. Morris is having a brief 2d life at WLB and true having Sanders back obviously makes a diff. Anyway -

Caught a few stats, MB3 12/48 FYI.

At what point do you think he becomes a value?

How does Crayton look with the first team?
He made a nice catch but he shared first team plays with Miles Austin. Aikman commented that Austin has had a great camp and is pushing for playing time.

An article about a week ago at Blogging the Boys reported Austin running with the 1st team in place of Glenn and making some big plays. Austin was also named kick/punt returner very early in what should have been a longer competition. I think Hurd owners can cut bait very soon, and picking up Austin might be smart. Crayton owners should be leery of this situation. Austin is a real freak physically and from a very small school. He barely stuck around as a UDFA, then started showing up on specials, and he might develop into a nice player.

Interesting stats:

Dallas has held the Colts to:

38 yards passing

9 yards rushing

Not good for the Colts even if it is the pre-season

YEP, daboys are kickin' the colts all over the place. They must be going to the superbowl this year!

:)

Depends on league structure of course, but if I can get him as RB3 / Round 5, that's a steal IMHO.

well if his value slides you will be reaching for him in the 5th...i got him last week in a WCOFF Rules draft at 5.12 as RB3 for me

I wasn't overly impressed with either J.Jones or Barber. I thought Jones looked a little better, seemed to be the one running harder of the two, but he still finished with a ypc of 3.67

I was hoping to see more of Addai but that didn't happen. Dorsey looked pretty bad when he was in there. Was hoping to see Kenton Keith for a few carries but nothing yet.

WCOFF is a totally different ballgame. 3 starting WRs and PPR.still a good pick and I would enjoy MB3 in Round 6 / RB3.

Yeah, no doubt. He looked strong to me tonight. Didn't rip any long ones, but he carried some guys on his back. Also had a wicked blitz pick-up. Just flattened some dude. I think he'll get more work this year than last.

They are also 1-8 in the last couple of preseasons...it means nothing.
:link: Thanks for bringing sanity back into the picture!
Exactly - do a search on "JJ Arrington Jr." from pre-season last year, and see who that is. Hint - he plays RB for the Colts.

As a Colts fan, here is what I saw:

Keiaho and Hagler looked good for the Colts at LB.

The Colts defensive backfield look to be great hitters.

The teams that are patient and stick to the run will again, give the Colts fits. But, with the Colts bend-don't break philosophy, it wil again be tough to sustain enough drives to outscore them.

I feel better about their Defense. But, they are going to give up a lot of points early.

The Offense will have to carry the Colts early.

Roy Hall and Gonzo are great WR additions! Manning will not miss Hall like Sorgi was on those passes.

I also thought both 3rd string QB looked much better than the 2nd stringers!

Just my $0.02

All-in-all, I thought Dallas looked good and more prepared across the board.

MBarber started turning it up in the 2nd qaurter. Had a 16 yard run right up the gut and knocked somebody on his rear, falling forward for a good gain. He just had to get warmed up.

I wonder how Addai would have looked in the 2nd Q against the Boys backups? :link:

Pam Oliver lookin' to get fired, apparently...
What did she say?
Her producer told her to wrap up with Romo. She said so on air, but then said she had a question that needed to be asked. Then she asked him about his contract status. After the question and answer, she stormed past the cameraman saying "how do you like that ####".Joe Buck said she was "feeling her oats" and then moved on...
