Honestly, who gives a flying #### if Trump is meeting with Kayne. I find far more disturbing that Trump is talking to people like Alex Jones.
I agree on the Jones part. The issue with Kanye is how Trump has said he is too busy to hold the scheduled press conference on his business holdings and the next day he meets with Kanye.

Yeah, there was no issue with a former Citi exec building Obamas cabinet in September of 2008... so much for the whole Main street thing.

Yeah, no.  DOE is a cabinet-level agency with a bunch of scientists and engineers.  You start changing fundamental policy and going against the recommendations of the subject matter experts, and the agency is gonna slow to a crawl.  Can't fire them either, unless you think you can find nuclear propulsion scientists and biochemical engineers working at your local Hardies.
You're thinking of the labor department.

Honestly I find your attitude anti-American and downright unpatriotic. I'll think about whether I should let idiotic forum postings bug me, then again maybe I'll make it a special project, we'll see.

As for Trump, making enemies of our intelligence community is a colossally stupid move, maybe that's enough satisfaction for me to see that play out.
Purging your loyal civil (and military) servants always works well in tines of conflict......

Trump taps Montana congressman -- and former Navy SEAL -- Ryan Zinke to run the Interior Department.

I know nothing about Zinke so have no opinion yet.

But I don't love that he keeps appointing military guys to the cabinet. He was apparently in the Navy for 22 years.

Of course but the way this is being picked up by all forms of media is just annoying. It's a non-story, I'm sure Trump is meeting with a bunch of people today as he puts off addressing his conflicts of interest. While everyone goes nuts over Kanye it distracts from the fact that Trump has no intention of relinquishing his stake in his companies. I watched the Chris Wallace interview, he's not going to do it.

Seems like Daily Mail would want to go to court and publish anything they have and also noodies!
Yeah the discovery on that case could be its own reward.

I remember that report - it wasn't exactly unsourced, there was a Slovenian magazine called Suzy which originally reported the story. Apparently she has sued the author of that story too. - Suzy did not exactly say she was an escort, they said she worked for a modeling agency which had been known or rumored to have models work as escorts. This is all tied up with the nude/porn photos and her status as an alien when she first came to the US. Should be worth watching.

- eta - It looks like the Daily Mail also cited two different books and even a report from Sevnica Slovenia about residents being told not to talk by police.

He's a newbie to politics and might not accept. He is the favorite to run for State Senate and steal a Democratic seat.

I don't have a problem with military guys in the cabinet.  What I do have a problem with are guys like Rex Tillerson.  He's a wolf.  We need shepherds in the cabinet.  Not wolves.

Climate change denier who always voted against environmentalists.

Enough of a hunter/fisher to want to protect wetlands and national parks, not turn over federal land to states.  Maybe.

Big energy independence guy, which comes with support for drilling in Alaska and such.

But yeah, he had Trump at "Navy SEAL" and "global warming is a hoax".

I think one thing is for undeniable considering Trump's cabinet appointments and the way he's addressing his conflicts of interest; at best he is no better than Clinton when it comes to corruption and cronyism.

It logically follows, since Trump always projects, that the entire time he railed against Clinton's Goldman Sachs speeches and the perceived conflicts between her position as SoS and The Clinton Foundation that he in fact aspired to be more like her. And he's showing right now that he plans to put her to shame in that regard.

No doubt that the world of finance has a massive influence in both parties and Obama disappointed many with what was seen as a pretty pro-Wall Street approach. However, the emails do not show Citibank picked the cabinet.

He means sleep with hundreds of women, rig elections from West Virginia to Illinois, lie about his health, establish an enemy outpost 90 miles from our border, and nearly trigger a nuclear exchange with Russia?
I wish i would have started this schtick :kicksrock:

Trump is no fool. He’s choosing those who are successful in life, instead of career politicians.
I LOVE this "career politicians" thing.

I mean why would we want people with experience in public service, legislation, foreign policy, and public administration running our executive branch?

Also implies a person that has spent years in politics/public service isn't successful. As if people like Reagan, FDR, McCain, or Webster weren't successful.

What will his reaction be if it's prevented? Not saying this will happen, but it might. The Republican majority in the Senate is slim. All it would take is about 5 Republican Senators to go along with every Democrat. It already sounds like McCain and Graham are opposed.

So how will Trump respond if he is stymied right out of the gate?
I'm still not sure this guy isn't a smoke screen for other Trump nominees.

Gates announced on Monday the start of Breakthrough Energy Ventures, a $1 billion clean energy fund, which he plans to chair. Other backers include Alibaba's Jack Ma and Amazon's Jeff Bezos. The fund aims to invest in next generation energy technologies.

In a "Squawk Box" interview, Gates said the idea of the fund started a year ago when he was attending the global climate talks. He wants to make clean energy cheaper than "dirty" energy.

"We want to be cheaper than coal or gasoline for transport. And so that bar is particularly low right now," the billionaire Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist said. "But there are a lot of paths that make us feel confident we can get there. We have five or six paths. We have several companies in each path."

Gates, who recently pitched energy innovation to Trump in a phone call, said he's confident the president-elect would consider his ideas.

"This administration likes a good deal," Gates said, adding he's prepared to lobby Trump on making sure America is on the forefront of energy research and development. "It's not a huge part of the budget and yet it can help the economy just like shale gas has."

- Between this, the Gore visit (also about the $$$$ I suspect), and then Tillerson, I wouldn't write off the Paris accords just yet.

I HATE CAREER POLITICIANS!   Oh, look!  It's Orrin Hatch* and Jim Sensenbrenner!**

*In the Senate since 1976

**Elected official since 19####ing69

While I'm not cool with him accepting bribes from the climate change hoaxers, if the guy gets a conservative on the Supreme Court and repeals Obamacare his Presidency will be a success.

Mr. Obama was briefed regularly on all this, but he made a decision that many in the White House now regret: He did not name Russians publicly, or issue sanctions. There was always a reason: fear of escalating a cyberwar, and concern that the United States needed Russia’s cooperation in negotiations over Syria.

“We’d have all these circular meetings,” one senior State Department official said, “in which everyone agreed you had to push back at the Russians and push back hard. But it didn’t happen.”

So the Russians escalated again — breaking into systems not just for espionage, but to publish or broadcast what they found, known as “doxing” in the cyberworld.

U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies are investigating what they see as a broad covert Russian operation in the United States to sow public distrust in the upcoming presidential election and in U.S. political institutions, intelligence and congressional officials said.

The aim is to understand the scope and intent of the Russian campaign, which incorporates cyber-tools to hack systems used in the political process, enhancing Russia’s ability to spread disinformation.

The effort to better understand Russia’s covert influence operations is being coordinated by James R. Clapper Jr., the director of national intelligence. “This is something of concern for the DNI,” said Charles Allen, a former longtime CIA officer who has been briefed on some of these issues. “It is being addressed.”

...

The Kremlin’s intent may not be to sway the election in one direction or another, officials said, but to cause chaos and provide propaganda fodder to attack U.S. democracy-building policies around the world, particularly in the countries of the former Soviet Union. U.S. intelligence officials described the covert influence campaign here as “ambitious” and said it is also designed to counter U.S. leadership and influence in international affairs.

Their comments came just before President Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin talked privately about cyberspying and other matters on the sidelines of the Group of 20 talks in China. After their meeting Monday, Obama acknowledged tensions over digital espionage and said the United States had strong capability in this area. “Our goal is not to suddenly, in the cyber arena, duplicate the cycle of escalation we saw when it comes to other arms races in the past,” Obama said.  ...

... Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) in a statement urged Obama to publicly name Russia as responsible for the DNC hack and apparent meddling in the electoral process. “Free and legitimate elections are non-negotiable. It’s clear that Russia thinks the reward outweighs any consequences,” he wrote. “That calculation must be changed. . . . This is going to take a cross-domain response — diplomatic, political and economic — that turns the screws on Putin and his cronies.”

... Administration officials said they are still weighing their response. ...
