So, uh... Ivanka is moving into the First Lady's Office in the White House.
She's also calling lawmakers to discuss child care legislation:

A transition source told CNN that Trump has been calling female members of Congress that she met on the Hill in September, as well as the members of the Ways and Means Committee.

Sarah Chamberlain, the president and CEO of the Republican Main Street Partnership, also told Independent Journal Review that the president-elect's daughter has been calling GOP lawmakers since her father's victory on Election Day.

IIRC another reason allowing health insurance to cross state lines may not be a great idea is they would just pick one or two states to incorporate in where they could concentrate their political power to manipulate those state regulators at the expense of insurance holders. I think if we allowed it they should be regulated under federal control with uniform regulations and protections for the consumer.
One of the interesting things about the state exchanges is that it actually increased options in some cases (for a time). Allowing them to compete across states would seem to favor larger insurers and actually decrease competition.

I see what you did there. A little Russian communist red hidden in there, just like with the Trump administration.

"The years ahead will be great ones for our country, for the cause of freedom and the spread of civilization. The West will not contain Communism; it will transcend Communism. We will not bother to denounce it, we'll dismiss it as a sad, bizarre chapter in human history whose last pages are even now being written."

Ronald Reagan, May 1981

WSJ: Hackers attempted to hack RNC after all:

A third person familiar with the investigation said RNC staff members didn’t realize they had been the target of spies until June, after Democratic committee leaders revealed that hackers had successfully gained a foothold inside their networks. Once inside, they reportedly were able to access a trove of DNC opposition research on Mr. Trump, then a candidate.

RNC officials, concerned they too might have been compromised, called a private computer security firm, which in turn called the FBI and obtained information about what kinds of malicious emails to look for, the person said. Upon inspection, the RNC found that its electronic filters had blocked emails sent to a former employee matching the description they’d been warned about.

So what's the O/U on how many days into the presidency Trump makes it before he gets impeached and thrown out of office?

Repealing the Affordable Care Act Would Cut Taxes For High Income Households, Raise Taxes For Many Others

In a nutshell, working class people would get a modest tax cut but pay so much more for health insurance it will have the next effect of a tax increase.

The top 0.1 percent of earners will get a tax cut of around $197,000.
A big part of the ACA was wealth distribution.  That doesn't keep it from being a horrifically structured law and system.  I realize it's evil to allow higher net worth people to keep any of their earnings, but the system, as crafted, is in a death spiral and needs to be fixed.

Where've you been?
In a country that more or less made sense.

Busy having kids, moving up the work ladder, enjoying married life...but now...

I'm surrounded by trump voters in trumpland, and I have no outlet to voice my frustration without the possibility of changing relationships.  Would rather engage with you guys than risk that in person, although I still respect and want to hear what others have to say about various views here.

But the short answer is that I've been more busy with life and less inclined to get online and argue with a bunch of strangers...but now the latter seems more appealing.

You know, China has other possible responses that don't include invading Taiwan.

What happens if they place sanctions on the US?  Suppose they impose a huge tax (tariff?) on goods leaving China, bound for the US?

What if they go bigly and outlaw the export of goods bound for the US?  They could easily tell all of the contract manufacturers that they would be free to sell their American-designed wares on the Chinese market to make up for lost revenue coming from US.

I'm in the middle of a project being designed and manufactured outside of Hong Kong.  We are about to spend several hundred thousand dollars in tooling for this.  In this scenario, they could easily keep their doors open by selling my product in China.  Hell, they could sell it for a fraction of what we could - the tooling is already paid for, no freight costs, and no pricy American margins.  These guys would come out ahead, I'm sure most others would as well.  It's some dirty pool, no doubt and illegal per international laws I'm sure, but haven't we already established that the UN is worthless?

I mentioned before that shutting down the flow of goods from China would have a catastrophic effect on our economy - great depression level stuff.  Even a stiff export tax would really kill consumer spending, which is what our whole economy is based on.

But Trump makes the best deals...he is smart, he knows things.

The man simply should not be running our country.  He's not even president yet and he's already stepping on China's toes, and as a candidate was sucking up to Russia.  He's putting folks in charge of government organizations who have no business being in charge of them, and barely a PEEP from the conservatives who put him in office.  These folks simply don't care.  They don't care about effective government, and they don't understand foreign policy by and large.

China can do a whole lot of things to hurt the US and they've already threatened to act against a large car manufacturer, likely GM, in what is said to be a "shot across the bow" for Trumps actions pertaining to China.  Trump is in WAY over his head, and instead of putting folks with experience around him, or listening to intelligence briefings from folks who know what they're doing, he's going to do what he does, and take us down with him.  The republicans are going to hang on as long as they can to get their supreme court justices, while riding our country down into the ground.

So yeah - the white working class who put him in office is going to be royally screwed when issues with china greatly increase prices on products they were used to getting cheap, find out that removing Obamacare actually takes away something reasonably good that they had and replaces it with something much worse (or nothing at all) and that voting in a billionaire narcissist wasn't voting in someone who understands them or their needs, especially when he puts out his tax cuts that benefit largely the rich and the working class are told that they'll have to wait for the beenfits to trickle down to them.

We've already established we don't care if they start a war.

Now if people can't get their iphone 8s, then we have a real problem.  Until then I say we just not worry, he's got Omarosa on the payroll now what could go wrong?

What planet are you living on where "higher net worth people" can't keep any of their earnings?  It's as if you're completely ignorant to the current state of wealth inequality in the US, which I know isn't the case because you're a smart dude who is up on current events.

Yes, as we discussed some days ago, actual war and trade war are both on the table.

I wish winning elections meant being funnier.  When Jay Leno and Dennis Miller are the best your party has, the rest of us have to put up with this level of funny from your side.  Maybe Devos can work some improv classes into the DOE budget?

This seems wrong.   It'd be great if an economist would comment on this (paging I.K.).

The 17 people in Trump's cabinet have more wealth than the bottom 3rd of the country.  Ok they worked for it.  Where does it end though?

Should 100 people have 80% of the wealth of the country?  May be fair but is that good for the country?

Our society should not be a poker game.  Eventually one game gets all the chips and the game is over.  Our current state is closer to that then the opposite.

Thank Obama for spreading the wealth around with his bottom up economics.

Surely without his leadership the last eight years these Trumpmen would own more than half the Nation.

Thanks Obama!

In telephone conversations with Donald Trump, FBI Director James Comey assured the president-elect there was no credible evidence that Russia influenced the outcome of the recent U.S. presidential election by hacking the Democratic National Committee and the emails of John Podesta, the chairman of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

What’s more, Comey told Trump that James Clapper, the director of National Intelligence, agreed with this FBI assessment.

The only member of the U.S. intelligence community who was ready to assert that the Russians sanctioned the hacking was John Brennan, the director of the CIA, according to sources who were briefed on Comey’s conversations with Trump.

"And Brennan takes his marching orders from President Obama," the sources quoted Comey as saying.

It would not surprise me to see China take some very measured, targeted steps against US firms, but a trade war is not in their self-interest.

A good general rule to follow is that other countries behave rationally.  They may make mistakes, miscalculate things, or misread their opponents, but they're not going to do knowingly do something that makes them objectively worse off.  In order to cut off trade to the US, China would have to decide that the massive economic costs of doing so -- to China, not to us -- would be outweighed by the gains of making Trump regret that phone call.  Again, that's not a credible threat.

A phone call?  No.

US abandoning the One China policy, as Trump has has hinted he wants to consider - I don't know.

Assange was on Hannity yesterday basically saying the same thing. They are also behind trying to get the Electoral College to not accept Trump.  These are scary times.

Instead of asking rhetorical questions on twitter, may even the Donald should attend his intelligence briefings and have press conferences

These guys aren't playing poker.  They are the rake.  They always get paid.

Wow this sure fizzled out quick.  So can we expect the Washington Post and NBC to apologize shortly for putting out fake news?
