Yes, it is possible, but not realistic, as it would alienate all of the Trump supporters.

At this point, he is sending the GOP off a cliff and they have to go along for the ride.
And the entire GOP brand is built on never being wrong, doubling down when confronted, plowing ahead even when everything says stop. You have a sizable portion of the voting population out there defending Trump's comments—no matter what he says. And the entire party ethos nurtures and celebrates that kind of blind loyalty. They can't turn back now. It's not their brand.

the rs needed kasich hell america needed him and he was a distant also ran for most of the race that tells you something the appeal of the r party to its base is not good governance it is not a well run state instead it is fringe groups hatred bigotry fear mongering and in the cheato banditos case it is outright lies and sound bytes and actual and implied calls for violence that is pretty damned scary brohans and i hope it is nothing that americans have to take to the bank

30% would have been great for Nehlen

Wisconsin loves thier globalist senator , who knew
Just about everyone but you?

I can't think of many people who expected Ryan to lose, but you said he would.  That reflects on either your political intellect, or your bias, I think.

weber on wisn who is himself a total hard core r said something pretty interesting this morning trump had it so easy in the primary where he needed only appeal to the r base who did not really care about his platform that he could jusst insult guys like little marco and liar ted etc etc and the media would carry the water for him and repeat it and that worked to rs but now that he is in the big race he needs to broadcast his policy and the media is not covering his policy or repeating it it was something like less than a minute that the major networks gave to his actual policy before turning back to his horrible things he has said so while he needs to get his policy out the media is not doing it for him and  he has spent 0 dollars on tv ads the result is that in battleground states where he needed to be out there first and set his own framing he is getting absolutely hammered and has almost no time or real ability to catch up pretty good analysis i thought and also pretty telling about what is important to the r base versus the rest of the country take that to  the bank bromigos

Remember when we were talking about PA, OH, MI, and WI as being important? Trump's "rust belt" strategy? Yeah, now the "battleground states" in this cycle are NC, GA, IA, and AZ. 538's projection models run from 93.9% to 78.9% in favor of Clinton winning.

NYT out with a piece that points out rhetoric like Trump's is what got Yitzak Rabin assassinated.  When you say #### like that you just never know who's listening.

No one with any sense of electoral politics ever thought this idiot was going to make PA a battleground.  This is the biggest pie in the sky dream plan in recent American presidential politics.

how is it for you guys are you seeing any trump signs i see almost none here in southeast wisconsin and if he is going win scanny he needs s e wisco take that to the bank bromigos

I'm not sure how this is meant whether that puts Hillary at real risk but crazies are crazies and he has probably increased his own risk too. Maybe for people like Ryan and Obama too. Bad all around.

You mean yard signs? The man doesn't have a campaign. I seriously question if he has yard signs. He has hats though.

eta - I have seen one. There is a hand panted red white & blue sign Trump sign nailed to a tree right by the interstate.

Trump supporters that scream about the Supreme Court nominees Hillary would put up have to start thinking about how Trump might lead to the Republicans losing the Senate and possibly even the House. He's handing them the keys.

Yeah, I saw a few leading into our primary (unsurprising here in NWI), and there is one angry old guy in my neighborhood with an anti-Hillary sign that doesn't mention Trump at all. But that's it. Indiana will almost certainly still end up in Trump's camp, but people aren't really thrilled with him evidently. Tapping Pence as his VP probably really hurt the enthusiasm for him in my neck of the woods -- People hate Mike Pence here, even though it's a pretty strongly Republican leaning area. Even though Pence is out of the race now, the "Fire Pence" signs still outnumber the rest of the political yard signs put together.

Strategies for getting out of an election...by Donald Trump

  • Say Mexicans are rapists (well, just some that are illegal, that will be our spin)...didn't work...move on
  • Say we will build a big Wall on the southern border and that Mexico will pay for it...damn, people actually like that one...move on
  • Make crude comments about women and where they may bleed from...nope, still nothing...move on
  • Say we will ban Muslim immigration...crap, people like that too...move on
  • Take picture with Taco Bowl...ok, this was funny...move on.
  • Have zero clue about any policy issue...I mean no clue at all.  And take zero time to learn about it.  Some people still don't care?  What is wrong with you people?...move on
  • Have ties to NAMBLA (relax HT..Im kidding)
  • Don't rule out using nukes in the ME...nope, still nothing...move on
  • Say Im open to giving Nukes to Saudi Arabia...no defections from my supporters yet?
  • Say I will pay the bills if someone punches a protester...holy crap, someone actually punched a guy...so I really have to pay for that?
  • Get sued for Fraud for Trump University...people still don't care.
  • Say I could shoot someone on 5th avenue...oh, they cheer that too?  I may actually have to shoot someone (come back to this one)
  • Be buddy buddy with Putin and Russia...no, people like him now?
  • Ask russians to hack my opponent...still people follow me?
  • Say that I admire how China handled Tiananmen square...holy crap, how am I still around?  Ok, I got it...
  • Infer that gun owners could take care of Hillary if she is elected so she doesn't nominate liberal judges...this will do it, right?

I may have missed quite a few

As of this point they are losing the Senate.  I'm ballparking 52 seats for the DNC when the smoke settles and I think I was able to figure out 54 seats.  And they are going to lose a few seats in the House but I don't think that they lose the majority.  If there is a DNC white house with Clinton, a DNC Senate and the GOP in the House coming off this bloodbath the next 4 years will be biblically bad in terms of governance.

I've seen a couple yard signs around me down here in Southern MD (big time R territory). But most of them also have a Confederate Flag flying close by as well.

It honestly astounds me that anyone is still willing to defend this clown.

I mean, it must be pretty obvious to even the die-hards at this point that he's gonna lose in epic fashion.

What is gained by going down with a sinking ship?

This is very Agent Orange of you. Many people are saying that you aren't much better at prognosticating than tommyboy. Sad.

It's weird around here in the greater Boston area. There are Trump signs but none for Clinton. Even bumper stickers I hardly see any Clinton stickers on cars . Plenty of Obama , even an occasional Kerry :lmao:   but hardly any Hillary. I will say 90% of the Trump stickers are the 60 plus crowd.

as an aside , yard signs etc used to be a big budget or campaigns and were provided for free. All of the $ goes to media now. you can get them but you need to pay a small fee . Of course if your are a friendly donor you can get any signage for free

I think you have to throw planting nude soft core lesbian porn pics in the NY Post near the top of that list.

Yes, hard to remember all of them. But you did forget a big one:

- Disrespect a Gold Star family, imply that POW's suck because they "got captured", and brag about receiving a Purple Heart "the easy way". There, that HAS to do it, no way anyone can take me seriously after pissing off so many veterans. Wait, what? Fox News is still making excuses for me? I guess I have to keep on pretending that I actually want to be president for a couple more months.

:lmao:  jealousy

Maybe he knows the man more than you do.
He absolutely lashed out out of jealousy. Mitt was afraid to run again, low energy Jeb! scared him off . Believe me . Mitt should have entered the race from the get go , heck of he didn't turtle the last month in 2012 he should have been president .

We missed a great opportunity in 2012

I don't think anyone would have much trouble finding a local Hillary field office and getting a free sign. I could be wrong, dunno.

I'd like to get one.  Not that I'm a Hillary supporter, but i'd love to piss off the grumpy old man across the street who blasts Limbaugh while working in his garage all day.

my old man was damned near deaf and he would blast the brewers and uke on 620 when he was working on whatever pile of crap we had that was not running that week while he smoked swisher sweets and you could hear and smell it damned near to the end of the road so thanks for bringing back that good memory bromigo take that to the bank

I was just thinking about it, but with his comment yesterday isn't Trump basically saying gun owners (2nd Amendment people) are dangerous?

When I first read the quote it felt like he was treating them as a fringe group ("The Second Amendment People" aka "The Gun Nuts").

It wasn't "we". Rather, it was "they".

There has been a lot of speculation about what will happen to the Republican Party if Donald Trump, as seems more and more likely, gets crushed in the November election. The party has split into factions at odds with each other and seemingly adrift. Some Republicans are fleeing this orange-hulled Titanic of a presidential campaign as fast as they can launch the lifeboats. The fractures this election have created and exacerbated may not be healable.

The words “Whig Party” have been spoken many times in relation to the current GOP, with the implication that the latter will suffer the fate of the former and disappear, done in by the weight of its recent history of prizing affect over governing philosophy – what Josh Marshall calls its “nonsense debt” – and its own inability to adapt to a changing country. In its place, theoretically, a new party will rise to replace it, much like the Republican Party replaced the Whigs just before the Civil War.

It is equally likely that the Republican Party will stay intact after November, that it will still have enough of a power base in the House of Representatives and in the states to convince itself to limp along and rebuild. But it likely can’t be viable until it purges itself of all the racism and toxic waste it has spent the last 40-plus years cultivating. And as the confluence of several stories this week reminds us, disentangling a functional political party from the rot that has infected it at all levels is likely an impossible task.

Consider the following:

  • “Red Eye,” the popular Fox News overnight show, had on as a guest one Mike Cernovich, a Men’s Rights Activist and well-known figure in the “alt-right,” the name with which society has rebranded the far-right collection of racists and white supremacists from which Trump draws a fair amount of his support. Cernovich has trafficked in conspiracy theories and his Twitter feed is a mass of rape apologia and paranoia that the Democratic Party is going to assassinate him.

Cernovich is so terrible that the producers of “Red Eye” felt compelled afterwards to say that they had made a mistake in booking him. But that doesn’t answer the question of how they found him in the first place. It’s simple, really: He swims in the same sewers as the rest of the eager up-and-coming right-wingers at Fox News.

  • Sean Hannity devoted an episode of his primetime Fox show to “investigating” the background of Khizr Khan. It was Khan’s appearance at the Democratic National Convention, where he spoke about his dead son, an American soldier killed during the occupation of Iraq 12 years ago, and his love of this country and its Constitution, that turned into a crisis for the Trump campaign after the candidate attacked the grieving father and his wife.
Khan’s appearance led to his smearing in the right-wing media as some sort of Muslim Brotherhood sleeper agent who advocates for jihad and wants to see the United States brought under sharia law. The sources of these smears do not have a single fact to support them and even some Republicans are appalled at Hannity for spending an episode of his show giving them a voice.

  • Hillary Clinton was sued by the parents of two of the victims of the Benghazi attack, including Patricia Smith, the grieving mother who spoke at the Republican National Convention last month, where she accused Clinton of lying to her about the cause of the September 2012 attack and suggested the Democratic nominee should be wearing prison stripes.

After receiving this primetime speaking slot, Smith is now being represented in her lawsuit by Larry Klayman, a prominent birther who has made a career out of hounding Democratic presidents and other party figures with nuisance lawsuits in between marching on the White House to demand Barack Obama resign over his alleged “eligibility fraud.” (Translation: the president wouldn’t show his birth certificate.)

  • Over the weekend, Iran announced that it had executed a top scientist, Shahram Amiri, for having given the United States information about its nuclear weapons program. This led both Trump and his vice presidential running mate Mike Pence, along with Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR), to publicly make thebaseless suggestion that the Iranians had found out about Amiri’s treason from emails that had been on Clinton’s private server. The Washington Post has agood rundown of why this accusation is a load of garbage.
  • What these stories all have in common is that they are premised on complete and unadulterated bull####, the kind of stuff that used to be limited to shortwave radio transmissions beamed out from trailers in the Nevada desert. Now they are the mainstream of the Republican Party.

But this is the problem with the right wing and the Republicans these days. The GOP has no discernment, no firewalls to insulate itself from its crazies and the conspiracies and dark fantasia they spin out. There is no distinction to be made between its presidential candidate, a senator who has been a sleeper darling of the Republican establishment (Bill Kirstol was Cotton’s first mentor when he arrived in Washington), and the lunatics voting for it in this election.

It is hard to see how the GOP splits, forming one right-ish party while the far-right kooks slip further out onto the fringe. The kooks are the party now. Separating them out to become a functional party capable of participating in governance may not be possible.

So if the Whigs became Republicans, what will the new party be called?
Don't know what they'd be called but the sane, moderate republicans need to break off and do something. The people in the NYT video at the Trump rallies need to be totally banished to irrelevancy. They could become democrats maybe? We could also kick out the far left crazies.

The way this is going right now we are heading into becoming a banana republic.
